Very professionally done. My hat off to you sir. Luckily I have a radial saw so all I have to do is lower the blade to make the knotches. Other than that well done. Oh and I like the glue you were using, but personally I just use carpenters glue. Seems to work just fine and no need to buy another glue. The sealant brushed on keeps the wood from ageing and keeps costs down.

@noire10015 жыл бұрын
On the other hand 3"x2" is easier to say than 75mm x 50mm. We tend to switch between imperial and metric in the UK as our parents all use imperial and we were taught to use metric at school.
@nsatoday5 жыл бұрын
The square drive screw is amazing. Phillips screws cam out too easy and torx screws don’t sit on the bit well enough for awkward work. Square drive FTW! I’m used to using both measurement systems because of the military. Like the base 10 of metric for easy math; however, prefer SAE for things like fuel and fuel mileage. Because It’s easier to figure out range based on MPG than Liters per 100k. 🤷🏻♂️ they both work

@drudunton34608 жыл бұрын
Stan, lovely video, learned a lot. I made one gate using your method and really slugged it out with the rebate on the center rail. Is there any reason why I can't set one screw in each joint temporarily, square the gate, sketch out where the brace will fall on the center rail, then disassemble the pieces and use the miter saw to make the rebate in the center rail. I could then glue and reassemble the pieces, screw them on, then mark on the brace where the rebate is on the center rail. Then I can rebate the brace on the miter and cut the marked ends of the brace, glue and screw.

What features should I look for in a mitre saw to make these cuts ? I've borrowed one form a friend before. AFAIK, the blade is too thick for more precise cuts.
@Monsieur4055 жыл бұрын
A thicker blade won't wobble as much during any cutting, so should in theory be more stable and give a more precise cut. Just be careful which side of the kerf you want on which side of the line.

Lovely work. I wonder if people have the time and interest to build to this quality? If you are paying someone to do it then it is going to be very expensive.
@MrDoyley355 жыл бұрын
What about when the kiln dried wood gets wet and expands. You’ll lose the gap especially where the latch is and the gate will jam. Shouldn’t you allow a little more space for that? Otherwise you’ll have to re-hang the gate and chisel in the hinges which is a pain.
@androidgameplays4every133 жыл бұрын
