Tiny correction about group B, the sport was introduced in 1982 replacing the group 4 regulations and went on until the conclussion of the 1986 season due to the casualites of Henri Toivonen and Sergio Cresto at the tour de corse. The governing body of group B (FIA) planned to introduce a new set of regulations for 1987 called group S but those plans were canned after 1986 and Group A the considered Junior series to Group B at the time, became the new top series going into the 1990's.

Correction. Group B was not outlawed in 1993. Goup B Rally Cars were introduced in 1982 and the class was banned at the end of the 1986 season after several fatal accidents involving both spectators and competitors. Group A was in place from 1987 until 1993 and then we got WRC. - I'd like to nominate the Otter St. Mary, Devon, 'Tar Barrels' , on November 5th. A dash through town, carrying a wooden beer barrel on your shoulders. Doesn't sound too risky, except the barrel has been soaked in tar, and is on fire.

Riders reach speeds of up to 140mph on narrow, country roads, beaming through villages, with nothing but houses, stone walls, hedges, and the occasional lamp post on each side of the road. On average 2.5 people die per year during the weekend that it takes place. Those that take part say that the rush is worth the risk, and is incredibly addictive. Another fun sport from England is the ‘Tar Barrels’ which is a tradition in Devon originally started in the 1600s in tandem with the November 5th firework night. This is where the youths born and bred in the particular village/towns are elected to run around the narrow streets (packed full of spectators) with a 30Kg burning barrel. The spectators have to quickly step out of the way and if you position yourself well, your face could be less than a metre from the super hot flames. Injuries and burns are common for both spectators and the runners but it’s a damn good watch :)
