I relate so deeply to wanting an intense destructive love, turning to teen rebellion and misbehave in a very self destructive way to try in fill the empty and make sense of things. This song and video brings out alot of strong weird feelings. To me it kinda represents the discomfort that comes along with letting others cross your boundaries because you know you wanna feel something but lacking the ability to know how much is too much. That paired with feeling unable to communicate what you want because you think it ultimately will not be respected or you will be rejected and so there's so much underlying shame because you feel bad for going out and not being what your daddy wants you to be because you want to rightfully explore your sexuality and also feeling bad because you are unable to say no to "the boys" for fear of rejection. So then your traped in a state of feeling like sexual favors is all you have to offer to a relationship.

personally, when i hear this song i think of it as mitski's dad being a mass murderer, and trying to get her to join him and murder people. Like when she says 'I'm holding my breath with a baseball bat' It's like she is being told to kill somone, so she is hiding round a corner, witha bat, and trying not to breathe so the victim won't hear her. ''Though I don't know what I'm waiting for'' She physically can't bring herself to do it. ''I''m not gonna be what my daddy wants me to be'' Her dad wants her to murder people, but she just doesn't want to, therefore her not being what her daddy wants to be. Also with the ''I want a love that falls as fast as a body from tje balcony'' shows that she is so used to this, it just seeps into every day thoughts.

so we all heard that when the song is playing, the volume gets lower, and i think i have a theory: in an interview talking about mitski’s advices for teenagers, she talked about the fact that she would listen to music so loud in her headphones that she would start tasting blood in her mouth, and how she didn’t recommend to do it, and this kind of song is the one you blast in your headphones or speakers when you are alone, the type of songs that make you want to taste blood in your mouth, and idk how to conclude what i said but… ?? idk if you got what i said you got it:)

noooo the references to eating struggles in this mv are so subtle but it feels so raw when shes singing about rebelling as a teenager and possibly linking to the giving up on restricting food and knowing what the hell a body should look like (the cake saying 'eat me', the wasting of the drink can, the gum ect.) -also the fact that the she is icing 'eat me' on the cake insinuates that she has the control if she does but it is so fragile as the handwriting is messy and childlike excuse me analysing the shit out of something so small
