Great video, best Ive seen. Particularly full instructions and all the torque settings, and great home made solutions substituted for special tools. More like this for older mitsi motros. mines 2005 MK. Thanks

Great content and well made! Thanks for taking the time to explain every single part. I am about to do this on another vehicle with this engine... the timing of this video couldn't be better for me :)

Out of all the videos I watched, this one was the most helpful. I have a montero sport with the 6g74 engine but the process seemed to be the exact same. I particularly appreciate you going into depth about the trickier parts, mainly installing the new belt and setting the tension. Most other guys just cut away and the new belt is magically installed. The makeshift pulley holder using the old belt, a 2x4, and a clamp was a great idea, worked perfectly. However, I had trouble on the step where you transfer the tension once the new belt is installed. I had all marks lined up, installed the belt in the correct manner, tensioner pulley where it was supposed to be, etc etc. But every time I went to rotate the crank back a few teeth to shift the tension, the passenger cam sprocket would rotate one tooth more than all the other marks. I tried it again and again, realigning marks, and reinstalling the belt, making sure I followed all steps correctly (as well as checking the service manual). Same thing every time. Eventually, I decided to simply rotate the passenger cam sprocket one tooth past its mark before rotating the crank back. Once the crank was rotated CC to the point where the opposite side of the belt was taut, all the marks were now perfectly aligned. Rotated it back, and they were still perfectly aligned. I don't know if that was the right thing to do, but it seemed to do the trick. A full revolution and the marks were still good. I did a lot of research prior to and during this job and haven't heard of anyone having to do this to make the marks line up, so it made me a little nervous. The rest of the reinstallation was, for the most part, smooth sailing. Starting the car up gave me a fright, because there was some knocking sounds. However, it went away after a while (air being bled from the valve lifters perhaps?) and didn't come back. Now, it's a month and ~500 miles later and the car runs great. Engine runs very quiet and smooth. Hopefully I won't have to be back in there for a long long time

By far the best video out there on this procedure! Some advice i have learned on the crank bolt, always use a new bolt (available only from Mitsubishi ) tighten to 180, loosen and retighten(not forgetting to oil the threads, no locktite) . This has to do with pre stretching the threads. I have a parts van L400 with the 6G72 due to this procedure not been followed properly and the harmonic balancer came loose on 3 occasions eventually damaging the balancer, timing gear and crankshaft threads. I would love if you could also do a video on replacing the valve cover seals and rear cam seals as they are a commom Delica V6 issue and big ticket item to fix. Thanks again Cam for posting your videos!!

That's correct, there is an updated version of the crank bolt from Mitsubishi due to bolt failure. Valve covers and rear seals are not a job I am looking forward to... but I'm sure it will come up eventually!

Could you please share with us what parts are interchangeable from usdm mitsubishi and dodges? Engine and suspension parts. Maybe make a video about it?.

I have thought about doing that... My concern is there can be minor differences between Delica models. I wouldn't want somebody to install the wrong part based on a recommendation I've made.

Great video, as usual! I'm in the middle of replacing mine and will be looking back to this for reference. I was going to put it off a little longer but then discovered there's an inspection cover and found it was all cracked. By chance do you have a video of removing the upper intake manifold/plenum? I'm replace valve cover gaskets, spark plugs and some other stuff up top while I'm in there. Thanks for these video's!

Glad you found it helpful, afraid I did not record the intake and valve cover work. Recording jobs quadruples how long it take me to perform to complete the task, and unfortunately I ran out of time on that one :(

Thanks for this, finding it really really helpful so far! I've run into an issue removing the left cam gear though. I rotated the crank 3 teeth anti-clockwise, then used an impact and the M8 bolt method on the cam gear but it seems like it bounced on the M8 and the cam gear jumped clockwise under spring tension until the bolt caught it on the next leg. I've turned the cam gear back to the alignment mark and will rather see if I can find a cheapie gear holder or throw a DIY holder together before trying again and hope to hell I haven't damaged anything internally.

It was likely just the cam lobe was under spring pressure and rotated the cam back, chances are the valve train is just fine.

Great video, best one so far.. I have a 98 montero sport looks pretty much like yours. Do you think it's the same process for mine? I tried to buy the repair manual but can't find one anywhere 😕

I suspect the actual tb belt and pullies should be the same, but the peripherals (alt, power steering etc) may be in different locations.

I have the 6g72 24 valve engine. I think i need to replace the crank pulley because im hearing a shivvering rattle when accelating. like metal on metal. Only under load. Do i have to remove the timing belt etc? And is the procedure the same? Greetings Stef from the Netherlands
@projectaddiction
@projectaddiction 3 күн бұрын
@stefvullings some of the steps will be the same, but I believe you can replace the harmonic balancer on its own. However if your belt is due for replacement, it wouldn't be a bad idea to just keep going and do the belt at the same time while you are in there.
