I'm not a diesel mechanic by any stretch, my experience is with gasoline engines, but watching Matt revive several of his machines over the past couples years I've learned quite a bit on how to troubleshoot diesels, large and small. @@billgardner9328 I am pretty sure those glow plugs are 12/24v DC. Most things that I have ever used them on have 30 seconds timers. On the many bobcats I have ran they have 30 second timers. When it was 20F or lower I would cycle it twice, while not really needed. Its seemed like it worked. Anything with glow plugs is worth doing.

First job out of high school in 1970 was at a local family- owned garden center who also sold Satoh tractors. They also had a commercial grounds maintenance operation. Many times, we would go to the site of a new home and do landscaping ,planting trees, shrubs and even a sod lawn. and they used those Satoh tractors. For their size they were amazing and so reliable. You have a true gem there. It deserves a full restoration for sure.

Considering how little it took to get it running, you got one hell of a deal on that little tractor! If you do decide to repaint it, I suggest dark crimson for the areas that are now dark blue [that color will show the dirt less], Barbie pink for the areas that are white, and a leopard print seat cover. Oh, and don't forget the deep blue LED headlight bulbs. A nice final touch will be to paint eyelashes on the cowling above the headlights. Your neighbors will be scandalized, but your wife will love it! As a bonus, she'll own a machine she can use to compete in those garden tractor pull events! She'll become so famous you'll have to start a whole new KZbin channel!

Matt has a 2 stroke diesel now and those take API CF-2 rated low sulfur oil to prevent coking problems. Strangely, the Wal Mart brand is CF-2 rated but the made for purpose oil is Delo 100, which your NAPA will probably have to order for you. Anyway, Rotella is wrong for 2 stroke. It also would not surprise me if air cooled diesels might want a higher temperature formulation than water cooled diesels, the same way air cooled 2 stroke gas does not take the TC-W3 made for water cooled boat 2 strokes. Probably same for air cooled gas lawnmowers.

They were commonly used by farmers in Japan, for farming and working at cultivating and harvesting rice. They are small, but well built like the B600 Kubota that we commonly see in North America. Kubota tractors seemed to be more common around Narita, north of Tokyo, but there was a Mitsubishi dealer near where we stayed, and they sold equipment to compete with Kubota. There were other brands, but I own a Kubota 4x4, and a KH90, and only had eyes for Orange.

Great video! I probably would have bailed on that engine ever starting! Glow plugs do make a difference, but never thought it be that dramatic! Great work, Matt. Your donuts in the roadway created one of the best faces I've ever seen on you! Hilarious... like you'd just been given $5 at an old fashioned candy store, 50 years ago! Thanks for taking us with you on another fun adventure! You and your family have the best Christmas ever! Stay well, stay safe!
@oldtugs
@oldtugs Жыл бұрын
The difference is dramatic because an indirect injection engine squirts fuel into a small precombustion chamber where the glowplug is located. That small chamber is surrounded by a large mass of cold steel and until that steel is warm or there is a red hot glow plug, the engine will not start. Using glow plugs saves a lot of starters, ring gears, and batteries. Basic diesel mechanicing.

I have that exact little tractor. Glow plugs are a must lol. I was screaming in my head GLOW PLUGS, it'll start, ha ha. I found an old loader, and made it fit. Wasn't easy, but it was a fun project. That little hydraulic pump, on the right side of the engine, is enough to operate it well. Great little tractor. Great video. Thanks.

It's more likely to avoid damage to the concrete. The little apron, he's not really concerned about. But putting equipment on green concrete is a recipe for cracks. You generally want to keep it clear for 2 weeks minimum. Sure, it's a baby tractor in comparison to some of his other equipment, but better safe than sorry.

The look of sheer delight on your face whenever something finally starts is always a joy to see. And I love your thorough and explained processes of working through the problem. I was a turret mechanic in the late '80s/early '90s. Vehicles weren't my specialty, but using what I know and what I've learned watching your videos makes me pretty confident that come the apocalypse, I have a good chance of getting anything my party of survivors stumbles across to start & run.

Matt - what a cool video! The first video of yours I watched was the "If It Runs I'll Buy It" video on that front loader where this video started. So cool to see something more come out of that series, and it just reminds me again why I love your channel so much! Now....pink and cheetah...you're a brave man. LOL But at least you have a full workshop to sleep in if it goes wrong LOL! Great job and wonderful video!

I’m jumping on this wagon, Matt’s “let’s throw this thing back together and see what happens” is like the diesel creek version of “hold my beer”. lol I would’ve had the whole thing in the parts soaker for a week and would still only have a 10% chance to get it running. Great job Matt Your intuition is on point.

As I said on your last vid after the concrete pour Matt, you should have dug out and shuttered an inspection pit on one side of that open canopy but still under cover, it would be a life saver for getting under things like the cat belly pan for instance, plus would make oil changing a breeze, remember how you struggled on your back to change those hoses underneath the thing.

OKAY Matt. I've finally picked myself up off the floor, after another great video. There are, in my opinion, two things that could happen after gifting the wife a hot pink and cheetah patterned tractor. Both of those things are definitely going to leave a mark. One, you'll get started yesterday on the house build. Two, you'll get started yesterday on another Man Cave.

About the glow plugs, there’s a good chance that’s an indirect injection diesel. Most small kubotas are and that is the reason they don’t like starting without glow plugs. Also gotta be super careful with ether on indirect injected motors really easy to detonate cylinders. Good job saving the old girl!

I always enjoy it when you get your "new" equipment to run! Your joy when the engine begins to run is contagious. You are a great diesel mechanic and diagnostician, in my opinion. Another opinion: keep the little Mitsubishi tractor out there on your property. I doubt Ms. Eva would enjoy running it. I think she would appreciate you using it to rototill her garden area for her. As you said, "she doesn't want a tractor" and since it's kind of a rough ride, it is doubtful that she would utilize it. I would suggest that you fix up the blue Jeep and give that to her. Put a roll bar and a top on it and make it presentable and I'll bet she would drive that around. Just my thoughts on the subject.

Nice asset! But quite a struggle.🤗 I can't stop wondering what would have happened if you used the glow-plugs right from the start...🙃 @14:38 Did you see that mouse fleeing to hide between the front right wheel and the container? 😃 @53:51 It will surely not be the same, but a cushioned chair would do a lot. Maybe it's even possible to spring load it...😉 After all it is for Eva!😁
