This video saved me $1000s of dollars! I was up for a new dpf after turbo issue and I found this video after hours of searching. Used the instructions and it worked. Took my car from limp mode to dpf light off and I'm moving again after months and months of tedious work trying to figure out what's wrong and the dealer wanting $$$$$ from me. Thank you so much!!

Thank you so much for putting out this video. I almost spent a lot of money on paying someone to clean my DPF or would have bought a new one. The problem for me was the hose going from intercooler to throttle body. It had a 2 inch long cut in it. Fixed the hose, went through the instructions to regenerate the DPF and everything is good as new. This video is the first thing that should come up on Google as soon as someone searches for DPF problems.

Thank you for taking the time to post your diagnosis, interesting to see that the main dealers would replace the dpf without fixing the fault if they followed their manual, is it no wonder people have little faith in main dealers, I have a 2015 outlander and its always interesting to see future potential problems.

hey bud I have one in the exact same condition split intake pipe at the elbow before the throttle body. my dpf is at 28kpa pressure difference. same thing both codes loaded can't force the regen. I will be doing the initialisation tomorrow and saving myself a heap of cash. Thank you so much for putting this video up. keep up the great work you legend.

Thank you SO much for this tutorial. Mine had exactly the same problem - just no split on the intake, but my split on the intercooler hose was worse (but in exactly the same spot). Followed this procedure, but added some Penrite DPF cleaner to the tank for the regen process and it has cured it. Thank you! One strange thing mine did was to also throw a code for the Adaptive Cruise Control service (together with the DPF). Doing the regen trick for the DPF didn’t clear this code and I ended up having to do an Adaptive Cruise Control reset and service on the scan tool as well. This actually took longer than the regen - but now all codes are cleared and seems like all is well. Another thing - was quoted nearly $600 for that intercooler hose from Mitsubishi. It’s an odd size too so you can’t just easily make your own using off-the-shelf silicone couplers. But I found an aftermarket alternative on eBay for $130.

Went through this exact same procedure for the first time today on one of these. Was scratching my head a bit to try and get it to meet the driving conditions in limp mode before working out to trick it with the DPF initialize. That smug joy you get when you resize you've beat the manufacturer at their own game is very satisfying. Can see why many would give up and assume the DPF is cooked and needs replacing though. Got home found and watched this video reliving the whole experience. Excellent explanation and video.

Great vid mate. Stealerships make a ton of cash by replacing perfectly fine DPF's. My best tips for keeping a healthy DPF - (1) regular oil changes with DPF compatible oil (2) occasional long drive say at least every fortnight - minimum like an hour at max highway speeds (3) run a DPF cleaner additive every few thousand kms, I've found that a bottle of Nulon Pro-Strength Extreme Clean works well (4) regular cleaning of the MAF sensor with contact cleaner (its a 5min job anyone can do)

Thanks for the video 👍. I am currently going through this with my wife's Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 4N14. I replaced both those hoses you did as they also had splits. I also ended up buying an Autel diagnostics tablet which looks exactly like yours. I also came to the same conclusion you did by running the initializing feature to trick it into the dpf being replaced. I've cleaned the dpf manually beforehand too. The issue I still have though is even sending the command to regenerate the dpf it puts a light on the dash saying dpf service needed or something like that but even driving from Toowoomba up to Crows Nest and back it didn't actually activate the regeneration process. I kept checking it but still never showed up that the process had began?

Great video man! Thanks a lot. I've been fighting with the CHECK DPF SYSTEM fault for like 3-4 months now, all of the mechanics focus on DPF itself, I got it cleaned and all that, no results whatsoever, the fault keep coming back and the diesel consumption in high. I've been hearing the hissing and told them about the possible air leak but they ignored it. Today I saw a big crack on the intercooler hose. Based on your video it all starts to make sense now, the mixture must be too rich due to air leaks and gives wrong data to DPF etc. I'll follow this trace speaking to my mechanic now. BTW, my car is now in limp mode - any way to turn it off being a layman?

Please, help. Outlander II, 2.2 DI-D, 4WD, 4N14. P1498 Code but its impossiblle.The DPF itself is absolutelly clean.The car goes on limp mode. Having checked the MAF,MAP,DPS and Top O2 sensor visually for damage and dirts but nothing. The P1498 can be reset but coming back within a 2 seconds again. Hoses leaking were controlled for any damages. Specifically around the intercooler and turbo air intake. Previously I had the P2413 EGR code came up but I have replaced the EGR DC motor only and cleaned the valves. The P2413 did not disappeared but I was driving without any problem until the limp mode came up with P1498. Now the P2413 disappeared but the P1498 stays. I am wondering to replace the EGR. Maybe the diaphragm rubber might be damaged? Please advice. Also I did find out some oil on the MAP sensor. Cleaned and with some air blowed up through air hoses. Thank You.

Hi A1 Mechanical again. I m having an important question,please. Its there any relationship between P2413 error code and O2 sensor ? 4N14 outlander II. 4WD, 177 PS. After the cleaning of the EGR, functionality check the DC motor, Wiring recheck, the P2413 stays on for a couple of mileage but afterwards disappered at least for a next 3000 - 4000 mielage and did come back again. Did the diagnostics and cleared the fault code and recognized that the EGR valve working . % and graph related changes was visible with acceleration pedal changes. Still driving again with no Malfunction lights on on dashboard for a couple of mileage and now is on again. I really dont know what to do. Even MAP, MAF, DPF DP sensor were checked in real time operation by diagnostics. Its seems to be an unknown secret. ..Had an idea the ECU fault but dont think so when it has shown the real time data from EGR etc. other exhaust related sensor signals.Please, advice. It would be highli appreciated. Thank You.

@@a1mechanicaloakey639 Thank You so much for your respond. I really do appreciate it. In case I have just wondering may it be some leakage in the EGR diaphragm itself? Could this cause the P2413 error. Several times the EGR was removed and cleaned with Dynamax DXM5 motor cleaner and I used a clean water afterwards. Any DIY ideas to check the diaphgram leakage? For this DI-D. 2.2 4WD,4N14 type the EGR is an expensive cost of replacement which I am not really affraid in case that this is the issue. In other hand I will definitelly blame myself for such an investment when the problem lies somewhere else. -:)). Thank You.

@a1mechanicaloakey639 2 жыл бұрын
I m not sure how the EGR setup is in this vehicle. You mention diaphragm, I can assume it's vacuum operated EGR. Meaning you will have a solenoid which controls vacuum for the diagphram. For DIY, you can find vacuum source from engine or at the solenoid. Check for vacuum supply to the solenoid and after solenoid when engine running just by feel on your finger. Now take EGR valve off and see if you can feed direct vacuum. If it opens or closes diagphram is good. To check diagphram leak you will need a vaccine pump or may be just put EGR unit inside a bucket of water and with help of small hose blow air into the diagphram, see any bubble comes out.

There's no best scan tool, they all good on it's own ways and bad on some aspects. Autel is my go to aftermarket scan tool right now. May be autel ultra is my suggestion.

I shit I live in New Zealand, and mechanics here are dodgy, especially if they realise you don't have any basic knowledge on cars.. I have a mitsubishi Triton 2.5 and the DPF just went on last night, a mechanic said he will do a PDF regen but I'm wondering and too scared he will just do the forced regen without doing any diagnosis.

@@a1mechanicaloakey639 thanks mate, is there any difference on the DPF light just flashing and the DPF light just lit the whole time?
@a1mechanicaloakey639

I think so. Different car foes different things. It could just be doing its automatic burn and actually has no problem if it's just flashing.

@@a1mechanicaloakey639 thank you, very Helpful mate. I found a mechanic not far form where I stay, the workshop is specialist on dpf cleaning, he said he'll run the ute on their device and he also mention he'll do a air leak test, he said in some cases depending how is the routing of the hosing system it could get cracks easier in some positions, so he said a good hose routing prevents from getting cracks and minor air leaks, so I'm happy for him to have a look.
