Mitsubishi Lancer - EGR Repair & Cleaning - 2007-2015

2007-2015 Lancer with multiple EGR codes, the replacement part is very expensive. I removed tested, cleaned and fixed EGR issues my and you can fix yours too. In the video I show how I used a multimeter to test that the electronics were still good. Then I show how I cleaned it with throttle body cleaner, paper towels, nylon pry tools to remove as much carbon as I could. I made sure the valve was moving by pressing it with a plastic tool. After I put the EGR back in and cleared the codes, they never came back. Effective solution that doesn't involve $500 for a new EGR!

Great DIY video! I got my EGR cleaned up today, not to bad and your video really helped. I figured out the crux move to make it easy to get my 10mm swivel ratchet wrench onto the top 10mm bolt on the EGR valve was to simply pry the metal bracket that supports the CVT dipstick tube about an 1/8th" away from the bolt. I did remove the big radiator hose in the way as I wanted to lose some of the old fluid anyway. And also pulled the battery as I wanted to replace the small paper filter for the CVT fluid cooler that is hidden under the 2 battery support brackets that are crazy tricky to remove. I checked the ohms and all the pins on the stepper motor read 22.9 ohms resistance. I can't believe how they design all of this stuff, being so crammed into a tiny space, it must be to make money for the dealers with $140/hour labor and expensive parts??? And I cleaned up the filthy throttle body. I used a couple cans of brake clean and some huge oversized q tips and rags. I lost 2 codes, P0401 and also P0420 and the dash engine warning light. Drives great and no more surging idle at lights or hesitation from a stop sign after just cleaning throttle body. Next is to figure out how to drain radiator or pull the lower hose for a radiator flush???

I've done this before and you can access the egr bolts without removing anything at all. This took me all of 10 mins.

Yes there's a gasket. And is snaked my arm down to it after removing the hoses and connector. Used a flex head ratchet with a small extension (1-3in.) And it's out... saves alot of time I've cleaned mine multiple times because they're 400 bucks to replace.

Just like everyone else on here, I’ve been looking for a tutorial on removing this damn valve for the longest time and I couldn’t thank you enough! I’m just having trouble on removing the 2 - 12mm bolts far out enough to wiggle the valve out of place. One of them keeps getting stuck up on the bracket that holds the CVT fluid dipstick when I try pulling it out. Any tips?

Hey Luis, I'm at exactly the same point. Did you have to remove the dipstick bracket? I've gotten one bolt out but the other can't back out any further without hitting the bracket.

Nevermind lol. Got it, it does just barely angle out of there with enough wiggling. Nothing else needed to be removed.

@@LuisHernandez-tn9nj thanks Luis, if it helps at all on your next attempt. I removed the bottom bolt completely. Then I backed the top bolt all the way out to the bracket, then back in just a smidge, then with enough wiggling it came out with the head of the bolt towards the the front of the car.

I think spark plugs or coils could be your problem but replace your PCV valve first, i dont think the EGR can have anything to do with it
