This video tutorial is performed on a 9th Generation Mitsubishi Lancer whose years range from 2009-2017. This is a 2.4L 4 cylinder engine, but the idea behind this tutorial is to give you a generalized idea of how to do this on any gasoline-powered vehicle.

One suggestion I would make is to complete one plug at a time to prevent mismatching the coil packs.

first time I did this, its also a good chance to do a compression test to get a picture of the condition of cylinders

I used the same Autolite Iridium spark plugs on my spark plug change. My vehicle is at 185,000 miles and they have been changed once before at about 100,000. The next day when I went to drive my car, there’s a noticeable shake around 70 mph and also while idling. Is this something you’ve experienced as well? I’ve been told to use NGK next time instead of Autolite.

It has been running great ever since I replaced the sparkplug, well before that it had a rough idle, and stayed after changing spark plugs, but I cleaned the throttle body and problem solved. Like I said, it's been running very smooth. If you are having a rough idle, remove the air duct and clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner, also try cleaning the MAF sensor with circuit cleaner, I bought a pack of both in small bottles at walmart for around $8 I used NKG for my Ram 1500, bought them on Rockauto.com, no problems either.

What length do you need your extension socket to be to reach the spark plug?

I think a 5 to 6 inch will be good, there is a kit at harbor freight that has different lengths and pretty affordable, ill check it out

I have a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS with 468,000 and never had any major problems believe it or not, but I think it’s time to change the spark plugs in order for me to pass California smog test😢. Do you recommend changing the ignition coils also??? Thanks!

If you have never changed them, might as well. Unless they are not giving you any codes or rough driving. I once had a Jetta, 1 coil was bad, but since they were not that expensive for the whole set, I went ahead and replaced them all.

California Smog LOL, we used to have that sort of health care up here in "north hollywood" which was only lining the pockets of greasy politicians, now we get greasy rednecks and old retard hot rodders stinking causing traffic issues while we try to either pass them or sit back 10 car lengths to avoid choking on gas fumes because they think they're cool, we would rather not pay the old tax up here so let them have they're retard hot rod fun and take the long way home, both are douche bags.

Wrong sparks plugs, Lancer uses double iridium plugs.
