There is just something magical about a bike where everything is mechanical. No OBDII scanner, no fuel pump, no injectors, no rider modes, no active suspension, just pure mechanics.

Love seeing workshop vids again! One tip, for hand grips hairspray works great for putting them on. Its a lubricant when wet and a glue when dry. Did this all the time on my bicycles and it works great for motorcycles too!

I'm from the states but I agree with you. I have the stock western bars on my 64 TR6, and those bars look pretty good and are very comfortable, but the handlebars Mike just put on the BSA look more like the stock western bars I just removed from my 76 Triumph T140. The rise and angle of the pull back is a bit too 70's chopper inspired, even for that BSA with it's 70's inspired paint (which has totally grown on me). In my opinion, the first set of bars looked better. If they're too wide, hack an inch off of each side. Or maybe find a set of bars similar to the ones on your tangerine Norton or 71 Bonneville. Luckily it's not too much work swapping out handlebars on these old British bikes. My 70's Honda had the wires going through the handlebars, which was a pain in the butt.

Hey, Mike, on my T140 I have mounted a BMW / 5 handlebar. It is pretty flat and gives me an amazing position for the grips, leaning a little bit further… greetings from northern Germany Manfred

Good morning Mike. Another great session in the Garage. I see you are quite full with motorbikes. I have a similar problem. One day when the wife was out of town, I discovered I was able to roll 3 bikes right through the garage and into the lower level, in a back room that wasn’t being used…. It was months before she even knew they were there. By then it was too late. The storage had been established. Of course I drained all the fuel and cleaned the tires before I rolled them across her new tile floor and carpet. I’m not a complete heathen! God bless you and your family and Merry Christmas!

Buying handlebars on-line can be tricky business. Until you're holding them or you have them on your bike it's hard to know if you like them or not. And certain manufactures measure the pull back differently, which is why you'l often see two numbers listed for that. If you send handlebars back for a refund you end up paying half the cost of the bars to mail them back so you figure I'll just keep them and maybe use them on another bike, or gift them to a friend. Man, the getting the throttle cable off the monobloc slide seems way easier than on the Amal concentrics. I keep waiting for someone to make a small device that compresses the sping so I don't have to hold it with my thumb and try to fish the end of the cable into the bottom of the slide.

High, wide and handsome indeed !! . . . 😊 Is there a thread in the little cast-in post on the gearbox ? . . That may be for an adjuster gone AWOL and explain the poor fit of the cable ? . .

What rise do the new bars have? It’s interesting to see the pull back on western bars. I have a cx500, that has wheel barrow style custom bars fitted that I want to change. Still want a decent rise but not too much pull back. The standard bars that Honda fitted to US market bikes aren’t so easy to find in the UK .

For fitting the clutch cable nicely at the gearbox end, I think you might need part numbers - 4 01 24 - 8784 (lockwasher) and 4 05 02 - 0049 (Nut) . . . 😊
