Just got Ableton not too long ago and needed to learn how to bus audio, so thanks a bunch. If you're using FL Studio, to bus you can route channels to a single mixer track, or route channels to *different* mixer tracks and then route *those* to a single mixer track

Cool video once more I've been using the extra audio channel method as a pre-master for a little while as Ableton on my old i7 likes plugins spread over many channels. Also noticed the video didn't seem to match what you were saying about the Ableton drum rack 8 minutes mark(?). Anyway have a cool weekend and catch you again next week.

When is the Remix Competition deadline? And it says to upload as Private to soundcloud, was it meant to be Public? And how do we know it was judged?
@EDMTips2 жыл бұрын
The answers to these questions are on the competition page, Syntrix: 1)deadline is 21st June (midnight PST); 2) link to be private on SoundCloud; 3) we will listen to all of the submissions after the 21st and will hold a live stream to listen and give feedback to as many as we possibly can.

Maybe I missed it in the video, but why would you want to only send part of a signal to a bus (auxiliary bus)? Does that act like a dry/wet knob essentially?
@melissabeahm2 жыл бұрын
yes. You set the FX bus to 100% wet and control the effects by the amount you send from each track. That way you don't have to CPU the FX on each track. (He explains it better. :) )

I'd love you to cover some more old school stuff. I've had Underworld's "Dark And Long" stuck in my head for ages, which if you analyse it is a very simple track in terms of elements but has a real knack of holding the listener's attention for long periods between changes (granted it's most effective when you're off your head but still an absolute banger while sober) and I've love to see a video about that, not that specific song necessarily but the art of arranging songs to keep the listener's attention without overwhelming them with noise and effects.

If I can get on this (ahem) BUS, all the songs Will mixes are effects-heavy compared to my stuff. How about some examples that aren't buried in reverb and delay? Not complaining. Still can't beat the knowledge for the price!

Straight to the point with chapter marks. Thank you so much! Any pros/cons between cmd+G and creating a new audio track and route other tracks into it? I guess the latter allows for more flexibility in how you lay out and sort the channels in the UI?

For the types of Ableton busses, the Group one seems like it works very well for your bass and kick glue stuff, and I think the return one is good for reverb and delay but is the just a track with monitoring buss style useful for anything specifically or is it just better to use one of the other techniques?

Thanks a lot for your tips !! really helpful.. a question : If I'm not planning to create more than one level of hierarchy, could I just group similar channels ? Because that's what I always did and never thought about Grouping as the concept of busses... unless the idea is to create more than one level ? Usually I group Kick and Bass then this group goes to the Master...correct if I'm wrong but I see the concept of busses only applying here if I plan to send the signal of this buss ( Kick and Bass ) to another Buss instead of master....not sure if that makes sense. Thanks a lot !

My question exactly! Should the Kick not be included in the drum bus? If you change the kick's track output to the Kick+Sub Bus, do you still 'send' some signal from the kick to the drum bus?

soooo, return tracks in Ableton, I am routing them to a Mixbus with everything else ofcourse (mixes then routed to master). But when I do this some sort of pre delay of all my return effects appear, so my reverb adds a longer pre delay then I've actually dialed in... tried routing my return tracks back to master out and everything sounds fine. But they now bypass my mixbuss channel and go straight to the master. Haven't figured this out yet so I'm just creating parallel fx chains with the same effects on my desired tracks instead. Takes longer time but at least it sounds correct. Any tips? cheers

I jalways thought a 'Bus' is when the channel receives a single instrument (eg. a kick and its distortion, reverb, etc.) and its dedicated FX, and a 'Buss' for bus summing channels for easy sidechaining (hence 'busS) 😅 I'll be sticking with my naming conventions though!

Thanks, Will. I hardly ever want post-fader or pre-FX sends. Pre-fader post-FX is the norm for me but sometimes I like to route a send halfway through an FX chain. Easy in Reaper as every track is like a mini DAW but the more complex the routing, the more difficult it is to grok when you look at it later on. Sometimes I think it was designed by a programmer. 😀 Oh, that's right it was.

@@EDMTips Absolutely agree. I use FL myself from familiarity but nearly every time I see something being done in Ableton I think "I should switch". On this occasion I believe the visual mixer of FL objectively makes these tasks easier because you can see the signal chain and I surprised myself thinking that.
