Mixed Grill - Wetherspoons vs Brewers Fayre - Who Wins?

The mixed grill is one of the most popular meals in the UK along with a fish and chips and a full english breakfast, but what is the difference between a Wetherspoons version and a Brewers Fayre version? Well in this video I head inside 2 of the biggest UK restaurant chains to try out their mixed grill to see who is best!

The Wetherspoon steak didn’t look as good as normal. Fair amount of food for price. The interior of brewers fair is a lot better. The brewers fayre is the winner for me. Presentation better quality better.

They both look delicious, I'd have no problem ordering this at either establishment. I like the fact that Brewers gives you two eggs, and I think their meat looked a little better though. Great review as usual.

For £13 pounds I would still consider going to Wetherspoons as it was still good; nice to have those two tasty options both under £20 pounds.

you have to note that the price include 1 drink or if you pick a hot drink that is unlimited. so most drinks are around £2.70 or so. so take that off and that leaves you just over £10 for that meal. and you should get Lamb. yes the size are small but the cost of the meats are higher. do not there is a standard mixed grill which is just over £11 including drink. you decide if you want the extra items for the higher price and how hungry you are to eat it.

Oh dono. This is a hard one. Spoons chips were nicer plus you got twice the amount of onion rings plus a mushroom. And was there extra meat as in pork? Meat was thicker in the second place but I think I’d go for spoons. Also it’s £5.00 cheaper. 👍

there is a correction a BF you get 2 Onion rings at BF you get 6. if you see the BF version you see that W is just as good and is more filling. Getting BF Over £3 refill drink you need to have 3 or 4 to make it worth the cost. but if you pick a hot drink at W that is Unlimited and W does include LAMB and NOT chicken so must have been a shortage.

I live near Leicester. The JDW mixed grill is gammon, pork, lamb and beef and sausage.. I always have the jacket potato and salad rather than teh vegetables and chips. I like how JDW give you the choice. I do not have the big one as it is too much for me an oldie ( 76) . The chicken is a cheap option. Go on a Tuesday for Steak Club and get a special price. My favourite JDW deal. You must be starving to eat a whole Big mixed grill. If you have tea/coffee at JDW it is bottomless as well. Brewers Fayre is a long way from me and not worth the travel costs. I am Happy with JDW and I like his business model. Not sure about those others how they treat their staff.

you have to note the Wetherspoons (W) prices can vary between different places you go to. you also have to note 1 - 2 onion rings in BF vs 6 at W. which is a value over £2 if buying as an add on. 2 - price at W include 1 drink in the price while BF its an extra cost to get the unlimited. BUT note if you pick a hot drink at W then it is unlimited. 3 - Cost of the mixed Grill is cheaper at W by the time you reduce the price of the drink off it. 4 - W does Lamb while BF does the chicken. Lamb cost more so your meal would have had the lamb on instead of the chicken. 5 - You paid extra £5 for more meat size. Both places are good value for this meal .

I'd have settled for Spoons but Brewers looked so much better. Each of the pubs seemed in lovely buildings. Rarely eating out, the costs were a bit of a surprise to me but all considered I'd definitely do the latter for satisfaction 😋 The dish was so much more appealing than that of Spoons. Yesterday eve I had ribeye & salmon with rocket salad. It was filling but, after watching this, am now hungry again &;it's so early in the morning Thank you 💪🏾

To be honest I was surprised how good the spoons one looked, the meat on the Brewers Fayre one did look more substantial though in all honesty if both places were relatively close I'd go to spoons simply on price point👍

I have just this week have a Large Breakfast at Wetherspoons in Southend on Sea and my wife and I both thought it was the Dogs Gonads , being a retired Brickie -Stonemason and ex Army I’ve eaten some of the best Breakfasts in the world well done Spoons

My two local Wetherspoons in London were, at best, okay. The standard of service was dismal. Often abandoned tables went uncleared, and even when they were they were not cleaned, leaving drink rings and small ponds everywhere. Their mixed grills were decent in a `transport cafe' way, but time and again there'd be something missing - usually either the tomato or the mushroom. Also, as in your case, presentation was dismal. it looked like the plate had simply been held under a chute and the food avalanched onto it. Two minutes spent arranging things neatly made it look so much more appetizing, but they obviously couldn't be arsed. You could also immediately spot a fugitive item. The best deals were their "club" meals, but eventually these seemed to be discontinued, so I headed for Toby's...

The Brewers fayre one was possibly slightly better, the Wetherspoons chips looked better....for the price I'd go to Wetherspoons though, if you wanted a beer with the mixed grill in Brewers Fayre it would be £5+ bringing the overall bill to £20+...in Wetherspoons the price of £14 incudes a drink, so it's much cheaper without too much of a drop in quality.

This is a tough one. I'd lean slightly more to the second one, but the first one was cheaper. Chicken, particularly grilled chicken, can be a real nightmare to prepare. The difference between nice and savory and over cooked shoe leather can be just a matter of a minute or two. I love chicken, you can do a lot with it, but if you aren't careful it can be an unforgiving meat. I'd say both places pass the muster. The first one for everyday meals, the second for when you want to spend a little bit more.

Its a Spoons, and most of the menu has been seen before 😊 So no real chance of being surprised. Only problem i have is plate size 😮 i hate to have my food piled up on top of it's self 😢Brewers Fayre,same as Spoons, needs a bigger plate. The food looks brilliant, good size and well marked ( both meals would be to my mind better off without peas&the tomatoes) Spoons cost,for a quick lunchtime snack meal,fair. Brewers,extra cost but expensive? Not really the extra quality on offer ❤no brainer😮 Winner's are Brewers Fayre 😊Allan&Family

Difficult one, based solely on your review and the visual, although dearer I go Brewers Fayre option although agree comments the chips could been crispier, maybe third onion ring would have satisfied me, however for me there was ample portions on the Brewers plate and it looked a tad better with presentation.

I'm unsure if this is a parody account, describing chips as having a potato flavour just sounds like a wind up, they're literally made out of potatoes. Also what was said was pork loin was actually lamb, what was said was chicken was pork loin. There was no chicken on that plate. A combo bite? Oh dear......"very nice!"
