First let me say that I am a retired 41 yr Licensed Counselor. The things you say may be far more important than what you put on any substrate . I hope you know that God is using you as a vessel for tremendous healing. Your art is beautiful...but your heart is glorious. Art can be a vacuum cleaner for the soul...but your art has also given you a platform for a much greater purpose. Your insights into the human condition are remarkable and you have an intonation that allows you words to land softly. Continue to use both gifts you so generously share on your channel. Oh by the way...stiking piece!

I just watched the last 14min of this video and am just so touched by the conversation. I am a survivor of DV and other abuses and have done lots of therapy. I know that is where my self doubt comes from too and it so hard to navigate life with that little voice of self negativity constantly chattering away. You know that moment you are going along in life and feeling pretty good about yourself or something you created and all of a sudden you start doubting yourself... thinking no you could have done that differently, or better. Or starting to worry what others might think of my work. I just bought the audio book The Gift from your recommendation and am excited to learn, grow, and heal from it. Because not only am I struggling with this but I am watching my young adult kids struggle too and that is so hard to see as a mom. Thank you Shawn again for sharing. I love how you show us how art and life can come together and even help us along through our healing process. You're the best!

So very true Shawn, about everything you said! I have been not allowing myself to give up on my pieces, the pieces I would normally throw away. One of the best pieces of advice I have ever got was “what other people think about you, is none of your business” and I didn’t understand it at the time! However, I definitely get it today. “What other people think about me, is none of my business”, it only matters what I think about me! I have had to work really hard on not letting other peoples opinions affect me. It has definitely taking growing up, oh and lots of therapy 😉! I just love your videos Shawn.

Sometimes I think, why can’t I be one of those people who go through life never self-reflecting, they just plow through life with diversions and distractions but, I believe that as creatives, we can’t be those people. We need those people too, they are important! I can identify with you 100%, and I had to laugh as you struggled trying to save those green spots, the more you tried to save them, the more that’s what it looked like! 😁 part of what I have learned from you as an artist is, not to give up so I admire you for persisting. It was a hot mess at times but it turned out absolutely stunning! So glad you left everything in, sounds selfish but, it makes me feel better knowing I am not the only one who can’t get the paint to cooperate with my brain! 😁 Thank you for another inspiring Sunday video, love how your piece turned out, you rock!💕🇨🇦

I love watching your process, but I have to admit that I often find myself yelling at the screen, ‘No! Don’t cover that up!’ And then you continue, and I continue to observe, and then I see where you’re going as you move forward and I realize that it’ll be ok. In fact, it’ll be wonderful! Perhaps the most valuable lesson you teach us is that we can push through the awkward stages, that we can add and cover over and over again and we won’t necessarily ruin what we started, and we’ll often find our way to the end result we were after, even if we didn’t know what that was. Thank you! Steph

This video has moved into my top 10 favourites! The outcome is exactly what I aspire to create, your voice-over and sharing the entire process was focused on learning, growth, patience, and mindfulness, and in general your demeanour is that of a trusted coach - sharing your experience to help others. Thank you so much! I am so glad I discovered your channel.

This is absolutely beautiful!!! You are one of my favorite artists. This color palette is fantastic. When I saw it at beginning of video, I didn't understand it. I couldn't see how it would go together. Choosing color palettes is most difficult part of arts & crafts, to me anyway. They are gorgeous together!!! I love the book parts you shared with us. It's good to remind ourselves of these important self-messages. Thank you for taking the time to share this with us. Love your channel, and your art. And I'm learning so much. I'm fairly new to your channel. But now its one of my favorites. Thx for video. Austin,TX USA

THANK YOU!!!! Shawn Petite thank you for not editing out your entire process because as you were painting this piece I was seeing and hearing you going through the same process I go through and by 7min in if it were me painting this I would have either walked away feeling like I'm a sucky artist OR I paint over the whole thing and start the whole process over again! Still saying those negative words to myself. Yet seeing you, this amazing artist literally going through this process and seeing and hearing your process to move past those times when the piece is taking on a life you had not intended it to and not liking it was SO helpful to me to see how you continued on and not gave up on yourself. Seeing how you shift gears and listen to your inner voice and learning how to let go of your background and or letting go of an area that isolated it looks great but as a whole background you saw you had to let that area go to make the entire piece come together and in the end you created such a gorgeous piece of art and I am in love with it! So again thank you for showing the artist journey. I am inspired, enamored, and in awe of you! **Loved the paints you used too! That magenta and violet colors you used was gorgeous and went onto the canvas like butter! lol **Loved your new vintage pattern dual stencil you used too!! I am SO running to your store to buy that! =)

I had commented last weekend that I was so impressed by this entire video. Your process of creating, the actual piece of art you created was gorgeous, and the chat at the end of the video was thought provoking too. I ended up getting the book mentioned called The Gift and boy let me tell you Shawn.... it is a huge magnifying glass pointed straight back at my life and soul with a guide walking us through each chapter of our lives and showing us how to untangle the mess that was created in ways that actually make sense. I have laughed, cried, and released so much already and I am only 1/2 way through the book so far! Thank you! I have now recommended this book to everyone I know! I look forward to your next Sunday inspiration! See you then!
