Hay I don’t know that you needed to admit that you don’t do armature so well. It’s walking on the wild side taking apart a doll and dressing it the way you want then putting it back together again. Thank you for opening the door to what is an adventure I wouldn’t have other wise thought of. You do that so well, taking us on a tour of our imagination💙

Mark, this just hits all kinds of Wonderful creative spots in my brain. I'm with you in that I think these art dolls are amazing yet creepy. I'm going to have to give these a try. Oh the different themes I can think of to create art dolls. And as you say use what you have and I have lots of book pages, newly-acquired gel press and heavy body paints, as well as scrap Fabrics and Mod Podge. These look so fun to make.

I love this project! I think these dolls would be great as gifts and the customization is endless. I’m a fan of the Gene Marshall doll that came out in the 1990’s. I have one doll and I frequently buy outfits for her on eBay and other places. These clothes have such historic detail (Golden Age of Hollywood) and they are SO well made. My doll has a better wardrobe than I do!

LoL...Mark...when you said you aren't that kind of guy that has dolls laying around...it reminded me of a man that I see often while delivering hospice meds. wuh-oh... as a doll artist with over a decade of experience, i dunno how i feel about this. to those in the comments talking about doing this to thrifted barbies, i'd advise you leave the dolls at thrift alone and just follow mark's instructions: use a hollow blown-plastic doll from a dollar store. barbie won't pop or cut apart like a dollar tree doll will.

Agreed!!! The dolls they have now are very thin and easy to work with. The hair pulls out easily and the cost is actually less than most thrift stores.

I don't know Mark... when you cut that nose off I was a little concerned 😲😆😅 These are genius of course. Like you I find these monster dolls and others creepy cute! But alas, no collecting. Just no room with craft stash. The wings were just the cherry 🍒 I think these would be a blast to make, but addictive too!

They are super fun to make Laura but you're right...They are creepy cute! I loved making the wings, too. You can use a plastic salad container if you wanted.

As a doll maker, it never occurred to me that I could do this! Thanks for the great inspiration, as always. Also, I think I may have been one of the illustrators for your Window Treatments and Slipcovers for Dummies book. I can't remember for sure, but I was one of a small staff of illustrators who did all the art for those books at that time.
