You make maintenance look so easy! 1) so you don't need to vacuum sand bed nor do you need to clean your sump? Can't see any detritus, is it cause your roller takes all of it out? Amazing 2) the torque reactor is for carbon? 3) you must be a heavy feeder for skimmer and roll? Or I could be wrong Amazing tank, hope you do cover your monthly maintenance one day, and the nano tank
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын

Why do you pump water out of the tank and out of the sump? It is the same water, isn't it?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
It sure is, I like to remove half from the sump as it helps reduce any settled detritus from the sump
@rudra76153 жыл бұрын
Rewatching this and a question. If you are dosing and keeping things stable. Why the need for weekly water changes? Hmm couldn't you just do monthly? I mean is it cause the dosing doesn't give all of the nutrients back in?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
At this point I was doing the waterchanges to manage nutrients. Since I started carbon dosing about 2 months ago I haven't done a single waterchange. It's a topic in an upcoming video 🤫

I notice you have the ghl aquarium controller with KH director, and reactors to remove nutrients Why do you need to do waterchanges?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
Currently to remove nitrates, the reactor removes phosphate and the waterchange removes the nitrates. The tank is a little overstocked. Given I only have a few months left in the tank I'm happy to keep up with the waterchanges

@@NanoTankReefer from watching the video. It looks to be sagging in the middle. But I could be wrong and it’s just the camera angle. I hope I’m wrong!
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right, it does look like it's sagging on the video. I think it's the wide angle lens distorting the image. To my eye looking at the tank it's straight. I'll definitely be double checking it now though

Hey mate nice setup. I have a red sea reefer 250 also with a very similar sump setup. Skimmer, bio balls, clarisea, chemical doser and I also run an algae reactor. To be honest in my opinion water changes are overrated. With your filter system you could do a lot less water changes and your levels should remain the same. I tested my nitrates phosphates ammonia pH alk calcium salinity and even copper (as I have red line shrimp) every 2 weeks for 7 months without doing a single water change and my levels barely moved. Had no issues with algae either. No coral or fish loss. The only reason I did a water change eventually was because I moved house but my tank has been set back up for 4 months and I havnt done a water change since. Tested all levels yesterday and they were spot on. Just a thought anyway. I know I save a lot of money now on salt I even use the same salt as you and it's expensive! Check out my tank and sump videos if you like, I will post a new video soon of my 250 to show how much my corals have grown with 1 water change in the last 12 months... Cheers!
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
I very rarely do a waterchange on this tank anymore, it was drummed into my head as a new reefer that I should be doing weekly waterchanges and that's not always the case

Hello my British brother! You have all those marinepure blocks in the sump yet you siphone water out of the sump weekly, wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of the beneficial pods, bacteria etc that you’re building up in the sump?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
The bio media in the sump never gets dry, the sump has a small baffle between chamber 1 and chamber 2. Even if I were to completely drain chamber 2 the first chamber would still have an inch and a half of water

Nice video. Cannot believe how clean your sump and tank is but not a surprise given how meticulous you are with weekly Maintenance . How long has the tank been set up?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Paul, it's not that clean. The bulk of the detritus in the main chamber gets picked up by the pump. There's a fair amount within the bio balls under the Clarisea. Whilst nutrients are in check I'll leave it be thought. The tanks been running just short of 2 years
@grzegorzstepien13993 жыл бұрын
Hi Mate. Im wondering why in water changeing process you dump 25L from a display tank and another 25L from a sump. It's the same water. All you have to do it's a dump 50L from display tank. Thats it. Of course you can syphon out detrithus from a sump and its a good idea to do that but with this pump you wont do this perfectly. Nice tank you got there by the way :) Best regards
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
It's mainly because I like to keep the water circulating in the tank whilst I do a water change. It's probably unnecessary but something I do. If I were to take the full 50L from the display the water level would fall below the gyres and I would have to turn them off. It also helps with cleaning the bottom of the sump. It doesn't do a perfect job of keeping the sump clean but definitely helps

Back then it was for nutrient export
@chriswhittaker95863 жыл бұрын
So what do you do now ? Water changes or not at all ?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
I do the odd waterchange now and then. I'm using lanthanum chloride for phosphate control and nitrates are usually within range without any interference. If they get a little high I carbon dose to bring them down
@chriswhittaker95863 жыл бұрын
@@NanoTankReefer how do you find you’re getting on with the lanthanum chloride ?
@NanoTankReefer3 жыл бұрын
I've had lanthanum show up on an ICP test and have been assured by a few experienced reefers it's not an issue. My corals are unaffected but my snails don't like it. I've had to remove most of them from the system. It's great at keeping phosphates stable but honestly I'm not a fan of having heavy metals in the system long term
