I went to a loctician to start my Locs and she started it exactly how I wanted it ❤️ she took her time and explained things to me. Now I’m about to go into month 17 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 I LOVE my Locs so much. Afterwards, I went to a different loctician that did EVEN BETTER. Now I maintain them myself ☺️☺️ Everyone’s journey is different and everyone’s Locs are special in their own right. I really really love my Locs, the journey and the Loc community I’m now apart of

One benefit of doing your own locs that she briefly touched on, but should be emphasized--- you save a ton of $$ doing your own locs. A basic wash and retwist will run you over $100 in most places. Doing that on a regular basis can add up.

I just retwisted my locs and sat under the dryer. Thank god my mom has a dryer at her house 😩😩 I struggled with feeling like my locs were ugly in the earlier stages.I love my locs now. I started with sisterlocks almost 2 years ago. I wanted mine bigger than what I got, but I wasn't as vocal as I should've been. I made the decision to switch to palm rolling & combined my locs a month ago. It took almost 2 years, but I'm FINALLY happy with my hair. 🦄 🦄 🦄

same. I'm on my 2nd locs & I did them myself. The first time I went to a professional & there was always a spot in my head that always hurt plus I didn't like how she didn't add enough (87 locs). I kept them for 7months & took them out. I put them back myself (108 locs) & my head doesn't hurt & I get more compliments. I've had mine for 6mos.

I started my locs April of last year myself while binge listening to your videos. While a loose natural I loved that I cared for my own hair and I decided to trust myself with this as well. After a couple of months I went to my mom’s loctician and brought my own twist cream. She was great and I learned a good technique from her but I didn’t have hours to sit in a salon. Locing my hair has made me love my hair on whole new level. 🦄

I started my locs a little over 5 years ago and I’m so glad I did them and have been maintaining them myself. My scalp is very sensitive to products as well as just being super tender for no reason so a loctician was a no for me. I am now 3 years in and I may go to my loctician 4 times a year and I maintain it myself in between. I continue to go to her for the experience. My retwists always come with a deep condition and I know most locticians don’t include that in a basic retwist service.

After a log back and forth in my brain I officially started my journey 3 days ago. I had been doing 2 strand twist for months now with a head band watching it grow and looking cute. When I got to the point to where it was taking me 2 hours I decided it was rediculous. I would retwist it very 10 days after the second wash. I wash every 5 days or so. I got my sizing done and that was it. I'm on my way. Excited!!! Thanks for the encouragement. I'm going to Amsterdam, Munich and Belgium on vacay in May and I at least did not want that fresh 2 strand fake loc look. I'll have 4 month maturity under my belt. ;)

I went to a loctician for starter locs cuz I wanted my parts to be the same size. She made them too big and she didn’t coil my hair all the way to the end. She said since she was putting them in a style she didn’t need to coil to the end. Unfortunately I ended up splitting all of them and doing comb coils myself. I wish I would have just done it myself out the gate. Lesson learned 🦄

Thanks sooo much with this video. I started with a Loctician and the first one i had did vibe well and showed she did not care but just was doing it for money. I was recommended by another one through my friend and since then, not only do we vibe very well, but my locs look soo amazing lumps and all and she hypes me up everytime she gets done…hell she even told i influence her to start over and make her locs thicker. it saves money to do it yourself. I had a stylist part my hair in the sections I wanted and then I installed the locs myself and even then… she didn’t part them small enough so I still had to free hand the parting. Locs aren’t about perfection so just get decent parts so you aren’t breaking the hair when you retwist and then go from there. This is my third set and I’m starting on individual braids which is great for minimizing shrinkage and keeping the baby locs in tact

I tried to start my locs several times at Loctitians but I never continued the journey because I felt like once they started them, they had to maintain them . And I never got exactly what I wanted. One loctitian got really frustrated with my hair and rushed through the parting, another one put a bunch of grease in my hair, and the last one my parts were just too big. It wasn’t what I wanted and she had too many rules associated with having locs. So I started them myself! And I feel confident that I can maintain them, my sister helps me maintain the parting initially since I can’t see my whole head and my hair is short but I finally am In love with my locs and I can not wait to see where we go together.

I went to a loctician, a well known one at that. She didn’t do my hair the way I wanted at all, my consultation was 10 seconds..I have a lot of hair and wanted more locs about medium size and she gave me big parts, small amount of locs. I re did my hair 8 days later when they started unraveling and you know what’s funny? My hair hasn’t unraveled since and I have the amount of locs/part size I want! Same thing happens to me🥴 I was all tuned up for some sister locs had the consultation got my hair done a month later… mind you she 5HRS away!!! went home and checked my parts (cus ima perfect patty) and my grid was all jacked up… talking bout somebody was hurt I wanted to cry! Consultation 50$ sister locs 550$ plus the 100$ tip… Sister locs have a certain grid and that’s why I wanted them cus I like nice neat even parts and was told “well you won’t see the back long as the front is done right the back don’t matter” ma’am what?!!! Are you serious I just paid you my rent and you do my hair the way you want it done?! No ma’am🥴 I did express my concern and she called herself correcting the back and fixing them! I have straight hair and started my locs journey 5 month ago myself after watching 100 KZbin vids lol 😂 but I'm a barber as well and thought I'd try it since I'm pretty good with hair and it's been an awesome experience and I've learned so much and get to know my own hair. Now I almost went to a loctician not to long ago and then I decided not to because I'm afraid they're not going to give my hair the same LOVE I have given into my locs and it's been hard work but very satisfying at the same time and I love that. So still looking around my area for a good loctician because like you said is very hard in the back can't see very well but at least I keep them separated. In 2019 I started my locs I had a little knowledge on locs when I started I was like two years in almost I combed them out because I did them too big and didn’t know what size I wanted them so now I cut my hair in 2020 started my locs on short hair in February 3rd 2021 now I’m almost a year locd and I love my skinny babies🥳 I also realized that one side of my hair was thicker and I did the parts a lil messy but it’s okay I just combed them out re did the parts now they look super pretty and full note to everyone when starting your locs on short hair please take your time I probably took two breaks and kept going 😂 my arms was going through it last year but I’m glad I started my loc journey wouldn’t trade it for nothing I love my babies 🥰🦋✨

I went to a loctician for my first 6 months.. after my hair was locked enough where they wasn’t washing out I felt comfortable washing and retwisting myself.. I’m now 4 years locked and haven’t had anyone else do my hair.. i like doing it myself cause it saves me MONEY lol that’s my main reason for doing it myself.. lol and washing and retwisting locs isn’t as hard as people think.. i also can’t trust just anyone.. a lot of “locticians” think they know what they are doing but really they don’t! So I rather just do it myself.

Great thought out points. I myself am in the beginning stage of my loc journey and started out with a loctition. I knew that I have nooooooo patients what so ever and that I wanted my parts to be on point! I had concerns about some of what you said, such as cleanliness and products being used. When I had my consultation I asked could I bring my own products. Thank god she was fine with that. My plan is to start of the first 6 months to a year with a loctition and then take over from there. I started my 2nd set of locs myself with 2 strand twists & wanted to semi free form. My intention was to be the sole caretaker of my locs for the entire journey. After my 1st wash without a retwist, my roots were tangled badly & I did not look cute. For my next wash, I went to a loctician to get help. She basically performed surgery, lol. My hair type doesn't allow for wash & go locs. I went to the salon for every retwist after that until my locs were about 1.5 years old when I noticed that the loctician didn't spend much time separating my locs. So now I'm back to doing my own hair.

I had locs 20yrs ago when I was in high school. Then I only had them for 7 1/2 yrs. My were freeform. I had box braids in for a little too long and my hair loced within the braid. When I took them out they were different lengths. As they grew some were skinny and some were thick. Majority of them were mid size. My locs had grew exactly to my butt.(I was about 5’ when I cut them). I never went to a loctician. I washed my hair about once or twice a week depending on my activities. They were heavy though. I wish I would have just cut them shoulder or mid back length instead. If I do decide to return to locs I will just keep the mid back lenghth.

I'm a GRITS (girl raised in the south) living in New England and I really felt it when you said you're still trying to get used to living in a cold weather environment. I will be watching your hair progress for sure because my hair drastically changed when I moved from the south. I actually decided to loc because after 3 months of trying to find a routine as a loose natural wasn't appealing anymore. Plus, I never want to use a comb in my hair again. Hopefully your Loc Tonic works just as good in cold weather environments. 🦄

I've been loc'd for 17 months. I started with a loctitian, but only go every few months for a retwist/style. I maintain in between. I've also started my 8 year old son's locs. His hair is a very loose curl, so I really need to learn how to crochet or something. He's about 5-6 months in and only the 6 in the back are loc'd. 😩

Seeing your journey helped me confirm that I wanted to do mine myself. I have installed my own and 2 daughters now. I am going to learn more about locs so that I can maintain mine and my family's locs. 6 out of 8 of us are loc'd. Myself, husband, 2 girls and 2 boys. (1 girl and 1 boy are not) I've go my hands full with our hair but I trust me and can work on our schedule not someone else's. I'm loving my journey. 💕💜

My son went to a loctician when he was 17 only the first time. He was happy with the look, but a heavy brown gel was used & it flaked badly after about a week. It did take a long time to start locking. After that, I did his hair & it grew a lot. I started educating myself. It's been 4 years & his hair grew from 2 inches to at his bicep area. I was unsure about the style before he started, but now it looks great. Recently (last 6 months) I haven't had time & he found someone great to go to who is educated, friendly, dependable and makes sure it's all about the health of his hair (like explaining about him dyeing them & how to keep them from being damaged). His girlfriend now also has locs & they look so cute!

I'm not sure which style of parting to go with. I'm not good with my hair n I want to do this by myself The first set of starter locs was done by my sister The second less than a week later by ne. I liked the second more than the first but the parting was non existent n everything was just nah. The third set I'm procrastinating. It would be like. I'm not looking to part my hair specifically but I'm trying to have like decent rows going across. Also imma start them with both finger coils n two strand twist The back part of my hair is absolutely thin so the coils I think will be better

I’ve been doing mine and my sons for our year! He started his with a “ loctitian” but she flaked on him and I was like let me see what I can do. His are thriving!! I’m glad I’m able to do them myself, it takes me awhile to do them bc my arms do get tired but the end result is beautiful 🤩

I do both! I go to a loctician for special occasions, and to attempt of new styles I feel require more skill than I have at the time. But I do practice retwisting, styling and overall maintaining in between those moments.

I started my locs because I felt it and I do most of my retwist twice a year if that I get a loctician..... but my retwist time is a meditation and therapy

I started my locs with professional mainly for the experience. I actually enjoy having my hair washed and I take it as a treat for myself. But I’m not against one or the other. I did make sure to choose wisely who I went to as well

I went to a loctician to start my locs 3 months ago and was soo happy with them but having my friend retwist for me and counting and looking at them loc they’re way to big. Went to her because I wanted a professional scalp massage after having no one other than myself wash my hair for 6 years. I wanted smaller locs and I have a lot of hair on my head so I’m slightly annoyed but my friend is great with locs (shoulda went to her in the first place) so she combing out a few and resizing them for me 😊😊

I got my starter locs done almost 4 months ago and the "loctitian" that I went to I guess only starts with interlocking method for starter locs. I've got it redone since then only once. My locs are still looking tiny. I thought they would have gotten some volume by now and I'm a bit disappointed. These days I don't want anyone up in my hair and want to twist the new growth now by myself. Would that make sense after getting interlock locs?😑

The island I’m on in hawaii has no locticians. My hair is long and permed too. I’ve been thinking about going natural again but the upkeep is too much. I’m definitely looking into this. Maybe I’ll transition again and start my locs myself. I’ve wanted them for years.

I actually started with braid locs and transitioned with interlocking. I go to a loctician every 8 weeks bc I'm lazy. Two years later my locs are flowy and thriving 🦄

I got my micro braidlocs started by a natural hair stylist. They were gentle and great at detangling BUT my parts were coming crooked, too big and just all over the place. I came back to get it fixed and they were still too big 😩. I redid my whole head and even though I made a few mistakes I really love how my hair looks! I planned to go back for my first retightening but it started giving me some anxiety about it being done right so I retightened myself!

Omg you're the BOMB Queen Sis😻🙌🏾 I literally just comb coiled my daughters hair (which turned out SO beautiful) and my hair (uuummm🙄😅) last night! When I say my arms are killing me, BUT that's a step I wanted on my journey 🙌🏾😆. It's spiritual and about the commitment of sticking to the journey for me... I've wanted locs for YEARS, but haven't had the patience and peace with my hair. I've been cutting my hair on/off since 2010, which is a rush all on its own😅 but I've legit always felt like the baddest B**** bald too😹. I also have trichotillomania which is another reason it's just easier to not have hair, so I won't be tempted to pull it😔. The "struggle poof" phase really does something to me and I can never get past that🥺. Sheesh, that was a lot sorry! I'm just so thankful that I manifested your guidance on this video 💕💕 I was literally just saying I need a KZbin Loc Goddess Queen that sees this journey the way I feel it in my heart and POOF 😻 your video popped on my feed🤣.
