What a amazing video. Thanks Nick. Lots lots of really good explanations and no time wasted on those 50 minutes. One of the best video on the subject . 🙌

Great. You have more series like that on Atmos mixing for film? This is ambiance but what about dialogue etc
@EdendaleSoundКүн бұрын
Thank you @pascalpayantfilms - these videos have pro sound effects recordings as the centerpiece, but if you check out the link to the hard effects video in the description I touch on dialogue and music

Great tutorial, thank you very much! Small tip, when punching in preview automation (30:35) you don't need to select the individual clips, you can just do a timeline selection and the automation will apply on all the tracks that were greenlit during preview for the duration of your selection.

Great tutorial! Thanks🙏 do you use any indoor reveb for BGs e.g. clocks, fridge, any hum/buzz stuff? And how do you pan outside BGs that the character is suppose to hear from the inside, like streets, traffic etc.?
@EdendaleSoundАй бұрын
Thank you for the great question, @dautucas --Yes, indoor reverbs are great for specific sounds, as you mentioned (e.g., Altiverb or Avid Space IRs). Sometimes, if the recording itself is "roomy," I may not use any. I typically won't use reverb on bed elements or room tones but might add a touch to fridges or light hums to make them feel less "mono." For outside elements heard from the interior, I usually cut them in mono, roll off some of the top end (to simulate the wall blocking higher frequencies), and may use an exterior-style reverb. I hope that helps!

Fantastic video!! As a mixer for film, do you prefer music mixed for Atmos that avoids the center channel for vocals? I don't use it, but I am very curious how your side of the industry views this topic.

Great video! Is there a benefit of using automated EQ with Pro-Q3 for every Clip instead of using the Clip Effect EQ? or is it just a matter of taste?
@EdendaleSound2 ай бұрын
Good question -- you could certainly use clip effect EQ, but using something like Pro-Q3 would allow you to automate the EQ to change over time
