If you're working in Pro Tools 11, at least in the Native version, you can't do any of the fades Andrew is talking about. Any work around other than doing this clip by clip? Is HD absolutely necessary or just an upgrade?

What's to stop you from making a parallel bus with a transient shaper, a fast gate and some hard compression to normalize? I feel like I'm missing something.
@kebbinator6 жыл бұрын
Compression will affect the transient and a gate isn't as accurate as audio editing.

I've just added "Lokasenna_Trim items to specified length.lua" to ReaPack, so that part is taken care of. :) I believe there's a native action for normalizing per-item.

no need for script.. select all items, open properties and set lenght, fade in and out in the top of the window

B_Ontic you can do this is any DAW for what it's worth. I've done the very same thing in Reaper, but it's even easier.
@BrandonofRedemption6 жыл бұрын
Winslow Whitten I actually use Reaper. Do they have an equivalent program to beat detective?
@rocketman3746 жыл бұрын
B_Ontic yes its called Dynamic Split. You can use it to either split items at the transient (which is what you want to do here), or you can set it to insert stretch markers at the transients (which is what you'd do if you were doing drum editing or quantizing). Just search KZbin, there's lots of tutorials on it. Also, you can join Nail the Mix! We have a whole thread in our Facebook group on how to do this quickly in Reaper. 😉

Thanks for this! Just one question: Is there a reason that his nudge values are set to bars/beats? If the idea is to get all clips the same length, doesn’t it make more sense to do it in milliseconds or even samples?
@caseymclane19726 жыл бұрын
now show this to Glenn Fricker
@HaitIsHere6 жыл бұрын
Glenn has some pretty valid principles on Art/Hardwork over stuff like this but the current average listener doesn't really have a preference of real drums over samples etc , records sold by bands mixed by Andrew are the proof, there's no "WRONG" way to do art.

HellFire Records Aus control on PC, Command on Mac. In Object mode, command selects nudges for the right side of the clip, and Option selects the left side.

sounds like a drummer is using his practice pad instead of a real drum kit...
@bjornlakenstrazen21866 жыл бұрын
My guess is that they knew ahead of time that they were going to trigger the kick and snare, so maybe they just used a pad so it wouldn't bleed into the ovh? Just a guess
@pratherbby6 жыл бұрын
No practice pads used haha
@bjornlakenstrazen21866 жыл бұрын
Well there ya have it
@pratherbby6 жыл бұрын
I just reread your comment and I get what you mean now haha. These are the raw tracks, but you blend those with room mics etc. so you get a real transient, and not the cymbal bleed so it allows the drums to be blended with samples and keep a natural feel without the bad sound of a normal gate
@bjornlakenstrazen21866 жыл бұрын
Okay. I think that @Holidaycrusher thought that the snare sounded like a mic'd practice pad (and it kind of does). And i have heard of people using pads on snares and kicks because it's so hard to get a great snare and kick sound. And if it bleeds into the ovhs with a crappy snare, it can just creat lots of problems when blending samples. But yes, I think i understand what you did here. :)

I do not understand. This is an awful lot of work for an average result. There are 100's of engineers out there who can produce a superior result with far less destructive techniques. Look at Taylor Larson, or Machine... I think far too many engineers now look for "that one cool trick" or glamourise over-engineered editing techniques, over just mic'ing up a kit properly and processing it using your ears.
