Don't kill the lowend on the guitars. Kill the boxyness! That usually sits around 500 - 1000hz, and those frequencies are too honky for metal. What works is scooping those, but adding like a bit of 1000 Hz to bass, and that way bass jells very well with guitars because they aren't trampling over each other.

Sorry noob here. But are the rhythm guitars pretty much quad tracked via a L/R on the live amp going in and then L/R with the NDSP plugin?

This is truly one of the greatest sounding records that’s going to hold up in 40 years. The production might be the most impressive thing which is crazy to say for an intervals record.

Ive come acrossed a few videos on tone on this page. I still have the same opinion. I think all of this overworking the tone is reallly unnecessary. I truly believe if the tone was just correct at the source from the beginning then all this wouldnt be necessary. Listeners arent listening to the tone, unless youre just producing for artists man. Listeners dony care about those kinda details honestly, they care about good vocals and a good instrumental. This little tone adjustment wont make or break a mix. Maybe its a style thing, i feel like lack luster guitars dont matter as long as the rest of the mix is great. Just see it as unecessary steps that couldve been handled at the source.

What's missing is pick attack, which comes through when pickups are sending the actual sound of strings being played to an amp. Listen to an older metal album with real guitar amps. There's this metallic "Kh" sound of the pick attack that gives the guitar all of it's bite.
@3toinsanity2 күн бұрын
that is hella overprocessing. throw an ssl channel on it, boost at 8k, 4.5k, cut where the woofiness is in the mids, boost 200 a bit. compress at ratio 10, 10ms attack, fast release, average GR of 10db more or less. and then i throw revival by blacksalt audio on it and turn up the highs, which is basically a multiband expander with a crazy transient.

this kind of tone needs to be banned as its really boring

Easier to run this on an aux send, then automate the send depending on whether the guitar actually needs that kind of low end in that particular part of the song

deep low end that you're going to high pass later anyway to make room for bass...yeah, genious *facepalm* just throw out the bass already, nobody can even hear it anymore these days, i doubt that it's even there, except for like 2 or three bands that don't distort the fck out of their bass and actually make it audible in the mix and have it do its job. i feel for bassists in modern metal.

Have you heard of dynamic eq and sidechaining the bass to other instruments? It's going to sound different than having just the bass in the full mix.
@jackpepperpwb9 минут бұрын
Depend on the band but bass seems to often take the sub frequencies and then thicken up the guitars in the mids.

@3cuber7492 күн бұрын
So either the amp is in other plugin or the amp is getting the signal from already amped track

Just sounds clearer, a bit like bass splitting but for ye olde low octave sounds for guitar.
@luciussavagemusic2 күн бұрын
just means that you get both signals going into the amp. So you get the pitched down and normal octave signal at the same time, basically making guitar sound like its got an octaver on it
