Hey, just to let you know when demonstrating the kicks, you've actually inverted the polarity and put the kicks out of phase. You can tell because when you flip the polarity in P5, you loose all of the upper bass and it sounds very hollow, though the sub is accentuated a touch

Rabea. I have a problem I need to solve and I need ur assistance. what I now use to record my guitar is my open iPhone mic monitor in GarageBand , a 12A TUBE guitar amp and it all sounds sh**ty I’m still dying trying to get a goood sound will I be dead trying to accomplish this?

Its great to watch real-life players / mixes - After a stroke I can only really do my stuff alone and in my own speed using virtual instruments ... people tell me that I do an OK job simulating and re-recording all my 30+ year old tracks. I also learn as I go watching video's like this :-)

Super useful, Bea! By the way, I learned a lot from your DHW Totemist mix breakdown from two years ago (probably watched it over 30 times while producing my own stuff). Now, it's great to watch you gain more confidence in your mixing skills with this new one!

Im so glad to see that other big players in the industry approach mixing just by ear. I've been self producing my own band after years of telling myself i cant because "i dont know what im doing". Finally i just said screw it and started. Im pretty pleased with the sound of our newest songs, but i guarantee if you open my mix sessions there are things i didnt need to do or easier ways to get the same effect. But i've learned to let go of caring about that. I've learned to mix in my own space and how to get a sound im pleased with and can expand upon, and im having fun doing it.

It's cool to see someone with a great sound go through their process, and it's quite comforting to know it's very similar to my own. I have never had any formal recording training, but I love doing all my own work. Each time I think it could be better, but that's a good reason to keep trying. Thanks Bea

Love this! So much great stuff you are sharing here. Thank you! I find it interesting with all the available compressors you'd likely have (UAD Complete at the very least I assume) you still chose Smash&Grab and the Logic Compressor for the Bass side-chain compression. It just shows how good most of the plug-ins have become these days and it's just a matter of finding what works for the situation. Love your clean and simple session and approach.

@Morroh11 ай бұрын
Love this man, thanks for sharing! I found the parts about the small hidden synth bits really insightful. They add a nice subtle energy that gives the song just a bit more movement. Kinda of like a modern shaker/tambourine track. Iv always avoided side chaining the kick and bass because I thought it was more of an EDM production move, really works here though. If it works it works. The synth features on your plugin actually look really inspiring to play with, I’ll have to check it out.

Love your work Rabea! About Soothe 2 you mentioned in the Master Bus: It is kind of AI yes, but also not as far as I know. It is officially a "Resonance Surpressor", meaning it intelligently tries to surpress overshooting frequencies. It can go a lot in detail, but it is similar to an dynamic EQ or MultibandCompressor, but it is more intelligent. It doesn't really have fixed values, besides the one you see in the GUI. Gullfoss is very similar to this, but somehow it does it different hence the different sound. I normally use Gullfoss on the Master and Soothe on singular tracks. But whatever works and sounds good! 👍 Be aware guys, lots of the plugins on the Masterchain actually make it louder (which always sounds better. Especially in case of Rabeas songs, since they are fucking awesome haha)

@callumvernon705311 ай бұрын
Use your ears, not eyes. Like you said theres many ways of doing things and I absolutely agree with you on that. The one thing I always suggest to people is high pass, as it’s the most important regarding headroom and cleaning up the mix. The one thing you can’t gain overnight is experience of mixing different instruments and timbres together, once you know how to “glue” the frequencies together it’s only upwards from there! Something I’d recommend with your mix is to use the gain plugin to essentially level your mix first so that the faders have the best resolution. Gain staging is very important too.

Thanks for this, I'm only just getting back to mixing and certainly not a pro. Just a thought on phase (yes its your ears that make the final decision) would it be an idea to bounce the midi for the kicks to separate audio tracks then you can see (I feel the comments about using your eyes already) what the phase alignment is like. A full phase flip may not of been required depending on how the sample was recorded. nudging or delaying the kick may have a better result. I'm only thinking out loud here and I'm sure Dave will have much better advice. Your Kick here sound fine to me :)
