Mixing Shrimp and Snails

Ramshorn snail are the best for planted tanks. I keep them in my tank all the time. Mine never really took over the tank, but I barely see them when the lights are on. They come out when the lights are off the most. I don't over feed my tank, so that's probably why their numbers are contained. Also, my fish will eat anything in my tank including eggs.

You can drip to be safe but I usually toss they live through anything

My tank is cycled you can say using to filters that are still being used for over a year so that caused a lot of beneficial bacteria in my tank get 22 caridina shrimp and blue ramshorn snails for my 20g hope that they colonize to a big colony at that point I will be excited

Thanks for the video! Has anyone ever had a snail eat their shrimp? I'm new to snails/shrimp and recently added medium sized apple snails to my neon/shrimp tank. Yesterday, I looked and my ghost shrimp had vanished - no parts of him in the back filter or in the tank, so I assume he was eaten? 😮

Yes I’ve had this happen to me, I had 2 huge ramshorn snails eat my Bloody Mary shrimp I was so upset 🥲Never again will I have those snails anywhere near my shrimp. I’d only recommend nerite snails or Malaysian trumpet snails with shrimp because they don’t ever bother my shrimp

@@aylinnn271 Ramshorn snails will never actually eat a live organism whether thats a plant or a fish or even a shrimp, The shrimp probably had died already and they were just feeding on its rotting flesh

I have mainly blue ramshorn snails in ALL of my shrimp tanks, keeps the bio load up, and sell for an OK ammount of cash, which is always better than none

Soo Shrimp Breeders yeah you just cant sell enough of them, they breed so fast. Ive ended up giving most of mine away to a friend who has some type of freshwater puffers and loaches.

Where as I run a snail tank with shrimp. They roam the tank and steal the shrimps lunch money. Hundreds of pond, dozens of mystery and trumpet. My super hard well water makes them the equivalent of a mad max gang. My mineral levels are beyond the various test kits

I've heard of this before. I looked up the ingredients and there are a few I wouldn't use in shrimp tanks.

Snails do need water change let's say after a few weeks. The water becomes too acidic for their shells; this is off course a tank (small one) with a filter. Larger tanks can go for months but the water becomes too smelly. If the tank has some alkalinity you will need to do some water changes regardless. I haven't had experience with caridina yet but the water conditions seem more ideal with snails, just a tiny bit.

Ram horn snails are horrible never get them ! O wait you probably didn't like me they came in on plants because they are that horrible to get rid of ! And yes they ruined plants! There eggs hatch on plants putting holes in the leaves! I hate these people defending them they know they are a pest that vary hard to get rid of ! That's why they come on plants these people sell you lol try to buy snail free plants only put in snails you want ! Trumpet snails are ok I like them ! But also hitchhiker's as those terrible other pest snails I have 4 kinds lol I can control my mystery snails I like those!

You need to remove your snails. Snails and shrimp eat the same food. Snails out compete shrimp for food and space. Snails will eat newborn shrimp. Snails add more bioload in the tank and thus adversely effect water quality.
