Excellent video's. I just came across your channel and what I would consider the best on this topic. There is a wealth of knowledge and your pace is perfect. 10 out of 10. Subscribed.

This is the missing link in my mixing chain as I've often been lazy with tom mixing. Can honestly say that my toms are either really schlapp or way too in your face, like an early Mayhem live recording. Great to see you go into detail and use Reaper, which is my DAW of choice too. Makes life a lot easier. Danke sehr!

Danke Dir! ;) I often hesitate to make videos that long, because I am often afraid that no one watches videos longer that 5 minutes any more.

Brilliant video Mike, I will try this in my new cover. This must also be possible in Reaper when you routing out all the tracks. I do a lot off experimenting with the F6 floating EQ from Waves, but I will use your approach. So first exaggerate and than decrease the volume. I always tried to get immediately a good result and than it is hard to hear any difference. I will watch the video how you did the snare once more, sometimes I forget things how you did it. Yes I know, I'm getting old!😎👍👊🍺 thank you for sharing all this knowledge Mike!👍👊🍺

You Continue to buy all those plugins, don’t you? It’s not about the plugins, my friend. If you know what you do, you will achieve a great sound with the stock plugins from Reaper, too. If you don’t know what to do, no fancy plugin will make it sound better. Trust year ears, always compare your mix with the original song you want to cover. You need to have a clear vision in your head, always knowing what sound you want to achieve. And not just throwing new plugins on the tracks and hoping that it will sound better automatically. This is no critique, I made the same mistakes when I started. 😉 Looking forward to hear your new cover.

Mike Luke Yes I know you are right, I can see it in your mixing videos how you make a Great sound with minimal use of plug-ins. I already stopped buying new plug-ins. 👍😎🍺

great video thanks, love to see you do a video on the drum tracker, importing audio drum track, converting to midi, separating out the parts cleaning up the midi detection, exporting to editor more fine-tuning, then final processing and mixing into the song
@MikeLuke5 жыл бұрын
I did. There's a little series I uploaded some weeks ago where I did exactly that.

So basically subtractive mixing? fairly simple but great advice, I only watch this videos since I already know how to deal with this stuff day to day but still.

What’s better metal foundry or rock foundry for classic rock n pop?
@gregthegroove6 жыл бұрын
Agreed with all these points and do them all as well. One plugin in particular which I love on any drum but for sure on toms and bass drums is SPL Transient designer. Very simple, like two knobs, sustain and attack. Works wonders and on a bass drum works almost like a true gate. You ever use it? By Universal Audio
@MikeLuke6 жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, not that particular one from Universal Audio, but of course I use transient designers. The one from Izotope (as part of Neutron 2) is even a multiband transient designer.

Hey Mike L. I'm a big fan of yours, I'm having problems with spd 3 via td-50. The issue is I can't get spd 3 sound to come out of Ted-50. Can you give me some tips to what I'm doing wrong.

Sorry, I cannot help. This could be caused by too many options, impossible for me to say what could be wrong in your case.

Well, first of all: It works 100% inside Superior Drummer 3. I don’t know when I find the time to make a review. But you can simply buy it, because it sounds great.

I highly recommend using the macros to all kind of sustains and things you want to change during playing in certain parts...sometimes you want to lower the sustain on an open hihat for example, assigning a Macro to it will do the trick, on anything.......be creative

I agree. Macros are super convenient

There's some woofiness in your voiceover track :) You should clean that up for your next videos. Great video otherwise !
@MikeLuke6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I know. My main mic (Rode NT1) and some of my acoustic treatment are in my second flat in Berlin, so the sound in my room and of the recordings got worse, using a rather crappy mic as well. Thought to EQ that without killing the voice completely;) Thanks for your kind words though
@djabthrash6 жыл бұрын
@@MikeLuke I definitely think it can be solved with just EQ, and it won't destroy your voiceover, quite the opposite actually.
