I’m also against subscription. My interface is antelope and has been for a few years now. During that time I used and love their plugins. Def has a thing. However, it didn’t always work as intended so I also use other plugins just because it worked. They gave me 1 year free subscription for the native and again I use them. I actually think they sound great compared to other companies. Not sure if I’ll keep them but I def love them rn. Using them natively is nice. I wish I could use my dsp but I don’t even bother because it takes up I/o to be flawless. I don’t think the subscription is expensive for what you get. The plugins are legit.

To be completely honest, antelope plugins are the best kept secret. They have a bunch of vintage emulation plugins that a lot of people don't make and they sound wonderful.

Very interesting as I have the ZenQ interface and a bunch of Antelope plugins which I haven’t used so far!

You should. They’re really good and have a thing. Not all plugins are created equal. I missed them when I didn’t use them (because AFX2DAW doesn’t work as intended) and using them otherwise means using I/O to run them. Natively they sound the same and I really like them. I.E the pultecs and Fairchild is top notch. It’s all basic. But some of the best basics of if you’re looking for good coloration.

Sounds nice, very well recorded drums (unlike the truly awful digital sounding guitars), and James is a nice guy, here or on his Studio Rats channel, but... it's mostly just more of the same - SO many plugins already doing these very same things, very same emulations! Some even doing it better to my ear, and whatsmore MANY doing it without the absurdly obnoxious subscription model. 🤷🏼‍♂️ It's not National Geographic or the Encyclopedia Britannica, it's plugins, the little virtual substitites for real ancillary gear, i.e. just little pieces of code that need a whole other environment (a DAW) to even make sense and be useful, plus one never knows when support ceasing or OS changes might make them unusable. So, for my money, it's buy-to-own-and-keep-using, never pay-and-keep-paying-to-be-temporarily-kindly-allowed-to-use.

Subscription-only. No thanks! When will audio companies learn?

When people stop liking the convenience and cost savings offered by subscriptions services? I'm personally a fan of the format, regardless of who is sponsoring what. That said, AA do have purchasable plugins and a bunch of them are used here. Just not the native ones yet. -Justin

@@SonicScoop respectfully, subscriptions are only a cost savings for plugins you're only using sporadically, or if you temporarily need a broad selection to try many things out. If something's part of your everyday arsenal-like an 1176, la-2a, ssl comp, ssl eq, neve pre emulation, echoboy, plate reverb-you'll never stop using these, and you are better off buying them once and owning them. If there's some "creative" plugin that I need for just one project, maybe i'd rent that. But certainly not my workhorses! That said, the one subscription I'd consider is Plugin Alliance, because with each year you're subscribed, you get to choose a plugin (or two maybe?) to keep forever, even if your subscription lapses.

Not a fan of their stuff, plugin wise. I find that the interfaces are the best part about them. No mojo, digital sound, perfectly clean frequency reaponse, no box tone, linear action on compressors - with some random (non-frequency dependent) saturation tacked on. Pass. Great content though as always, some of the best on YT. Thanks Justin!
