The shogunate outnumbered 3-1 but lost because their weapons sucked. American fleet arrived twice in 1983 and 1984

they are not old men. Those are wigs showing their military rank in Bosin War, and the clours depend on the domains they come from. White wigs mean they are Chosu Samurai

And they’re called Bears, there’s the white bear (white whigs), black bear (black whigs), and the red bear (red whigs).

Um that battle is battle of Toba fushima in 1868-1869 Kyoto vs Osaka

Kind of inaccurate because at this time Shogunate Forces were more modernized than the Imperial Rebels.

Ezekiel De La Croix no they weren’t lol, shinsengumi at toba-fushimi still used old armour and there was no standardisation in the bakufu army, they still used flintlocks mostly while the sat-cho forces (satsuma, tosa, choshu and later tsu) were issued modern minie rifles. the only modern component of Tokugawa army was the sampeitai and Denshutai. The sampeitai was barely modernised still using old Shogunate M1863 while the Denshutai were modern elite units designed to be purely a showpiece for the rest of the army. Even had French sabres. Additionally the Satcho troops had a better logistics and rifles in general. although satsuma still somewhat used old equipment the units in the line at toba were all extremely modern equipped with modern artillery too

@@wejwedge8137 Satcho is the combined alliance of Satsuma and Choshu, but other than that in terms of the different feudal domains that composed both armies, the united Shogunate part(Bakufu) itself was modernized, but yes Choshu was the most modernized and organized relatively speaking due to the fact they were smaller in number and therefore easier to equip and train. In addition, I don't think Shogunate artillery would have been brought to bear there since the mission was partly speed and transporting artillery did tend to slow down any army.

Ezekiel De La Croix the modernised force wasn’t present at Toba-Fushimi, to my belief only less-modernised forces were present and even the Tokugawa domain wasn’t really modernised apart from the Kobusho Academy
@EzekielDeLaCroix4 жыл бұрын
@@wejwedge8137 Elements of the modernized forces were available at Toba-Fushimi and contrary to popular belief, the Shinsengumi used firearms as most of their members were . However, they were of course an infantry unit and did not bring artillery. If you will consider this image of the Battle of Toba-Fushimi, it depicts the Imperialists forces(as depicted by the circular chrysanthemum flag) having more traditional samurai soldiers than the Shogunate forces on the right. imgur.com/aTvXFzZ.jpg

@@wejwedge8137 My mistake on the image I sent. After further flag research I have discovered that indeed the right side contained the flags of Satsuma, Choshu and Tosa. However, it still did show considerable firearms and contemporary modern style fighting tactics employed by both sides. The advantage of artillery however was in favor of the Imperial Rebels. This shows both sides on more equal use of equipment with the exception of artillery with the Aizu on the left: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/37/EncounterOfTominomori.jpg/1920px-EncounterOfTominomori.jpg
