ACKCHEWALLY, it's an Arbalest, since it uses a winch to draw the bow instead of draw strength. In turn, the weapon can be used to fire much more powerful bolts - hell, you can even engineer it to fire multiple bolts before needing to be drawn at the cost of individual bolt speed.

Like, the word "ammo" does not necessarily imply "bullet" or "firegun" Edit: not trying to say "crossbow ammo" is better than "bolts", just curious about the exact use of the word "ammo" in English and wondering whether the term is incorrect or just vague and imprecise

hoping there some things that are still placeholders, the regular zombies have some pretty weird animation the walking / receiving damage animations all look pretty stiff and when they die they dont look like they fell over they look more like they are doing some weird backwards lean

Imagine that at the end of the game soilders arrive, but instead of saving you they think you are one of the mutants and try to kill you, with this you can make infighting by luring the monsters in the soilders line of sight.

well putting that in the end of the game is a bad idea (mid game would be better) but enemy marines and the mutants can make some very interesting combat scenarios, since they are trained marines you would have to always outsmart them instead of just blindly shooting them like the mutants and by outsmarting them I mean like catching them by surprise or sneaking past them (or infighting like you said)

I can't remember if you've mentioned it before but a knife seems like a good weapon to think about putting in this game. Just something to use if you don't have the time to reload a gun normally or don't want to waste ammo on rats. Plus it also wouldn't be loud so that could be an element of stealth. Anyway great stuff, always excited to see more dev logs.

Considering how the resource management is already working, that might be too lenient. The other four weapons are all highly punishing and force you to tread carefully, and the crossbow in particular, the only other stealth weapon, is very slow. It would have to be a weak option. Like, a pistol shot but at melee range with similar cooldown, just so that humanoids can still get a lick in before being knifed.

I really do like the touches of the visual alerts for rats, and the idea of speed = sound. It makes "quiet" gameplay much more accessible for those with hearing issues. Loving these dev-logs, I can't wait for release!

The crossbow reload is hilarious, really creative. A little feedback on the gunshots: gunshots sound very different indoors vs. outdoors. Could be more immersive to add at least a good bit of reverb. I'm not sure it would fit your game, but you could also temporarily muffle the audio after firing a gun to simulate how loud they are.

The interactive inventory is really great. I could see a similar system come up for puzzle doors which require you to manually turn knobs or put it keycodes or pry loose vents etc. All great survival horror games are usually puzzle games as well and you've made such a great interactive menu system which would work perfectly for that. horror+puzzles work well together because the puzzles act as reason to go through that spooky hallway again, and maybe on the way through that hallway for the 3rd time something small happens like a chandelier falls or something has changed or a straight up jump scare gets you. Lot's of opportunities to squeeze out dread and horror when your trying to solve multi room puzzles

Puzzles are also great pacing in horror in general. Although, since this may be a short game, I guess this game can get away with neverending scary corridors & combat.

Not only all that, and they're really cool ideas too, is you can use puzzles to give rewards for the effort, which can help make survival easier, but act as potentially risky situations themselves by making you take your eye off the monsters.

I feel like the orangutan should approach the different ends of the ray casts in a random order to make it look more aggressive and sporadic. It looks a bit robotic moving in a defined circle as it is. other than that though, looks great and can't wait for a public release.

I think a progression as you go up the levels could be finding experimental mechanical limbs that aid in movement but make noise that means you exchange stealth for speed

@@murdocpissingcompilation It's a 2d flash game. The premise is that you are an archeology student who got trapped inside some caves while exploring a digsite in Mexico, and now you need to escape. Since you have no legs, movement is done by dragging the cursor (which controls your arms) to propel yourself forward. As you explore the mayan ruins you'll come across artifacts that can let you climb walls, break certain boulders and so on, allowing you to explore more areas. It's a simple game, but still extremely fun. The soundtracks are also quite fitting and memorable

One thing that I feel is missing is the enemies getting knocked back when shit at. Smaller creatures that get shot at at close ranges can even be thrown across the room completely.

@@CRT_YT Well yes the endings aren't necessary but I don't want this to become a rougelike with short gameplay and a storyline just for the sake of the game setting to make sense. Example kidnapped of princess peach was just for the game setting in Mario to have a point but half life has a gameplay based on the story.

I love the little detail of the guns being color coded. Flares are blue, crossbow is purple, I'd love to see the revolver have some yellow like caution tape or maybe some fancy "furniture" on it like it's an antique or some red on the shotgun.

Stealth Suggestions: -Everytime you cough up blood, you create a sound that alerts people within the building. This can be countered by finding a 'gas-mask' within the facility (something rare within this part of the game, but later on that may be vital for other areas), throwing a random piece of ammo on the floor to cover it, or by trying to cover it, with the cost of taking more health. -You can see when you're about to cough up bloox by a small bar near the side of the parasite, allowing you to take an educated guess of when you should do the countermeasures. -There are varying types of blood-coughs, ranging from light, to harsh, to heavy, and to 'Dire'. Each take a larger bit of health from the player, and hopefully makes item-looting and survival more of a prominent goal to the player. Dire-cough is the only one that applies vision-blur, while the rest only deals small chunks of damage. Item/Area Suggestions: a) Adrenaline Stim: As the name says. Does a small passive boost of speed at the cost of passive health drain, but some of the health is immediately regained at the end of its use. Might be useful for a chase-scene, and also doesn't give back health when hit. b) Upgrade Station: With there being random drops OR loot on the ground the player can pick up, the player can use these materials in a rare/secret part of the level, where the ycan upgrade weapons. Each weapon has its resulting downside, eg more flash-light = farther-ranged enemy tracking, more damage = more sound, etc. Enemy Suggestions: -Ceiling Creeper: Utilizing fast-movement detection for its tracking, and usually within long hallways, it shoots acid to wherever it detects movement. Is detectable when you see a slight glow of eyes moving across the floor. You can 't fight it, you can only crawl from it -

I have two suggestions that might be cool to implement in the game: the first one is to have wall objects like keypads or card sliders, and the other is for larger rooms or perspectives that increase your field of view. I know what some might think about the first thing, “How is it gonna be remotely realistic for the badass one-limbed man to reach something on a wall when he is stuck on the ground?” Well, one way that could happen is if there is a special prompt that allows you to prop yourself up to rest your back against a wall or to reach higher up things, though you won’t be able to reach very far. That way, you are able to reach up for things instead of being limited to the ground, albeit by using up time and effort to do so, allowing for some risk VS reward with it. For the second thing, having a further perspective in a larger room would allow for the player to get a grander scale of how big their new play area is, and to make for some cool and easier boss arenas or panicked escape room action, like the scenes you sometimes see in the game House Of The Dead. The further sight thing could also be tied into the propping yourself up thing, as it could help you see further, reduce recoil of guns, and aim better in certain situations if you have the time to set yourself up. I hope that you see these ideas, and that they might be ones that could improve your game

I actually really like the idea of being able to prop up against a wall, better field of view and maybe even fire at enemies, could adjust the character to have stumps for legs to actually prop up, useless in game just to make it less goofy lookin in general and then weapons that can only be loaded while sitting like this against a wall, or at least make it easier to load weapons in that position The idea of complex interactions, like turning door knobs or sliding keycards is also neat and since weapons have positions now, something is to be said for classes, and different choices you can make, leaving things behind etc the potential mechanics and depth for a game lile this is super fun to think about that being said I also like the state its in now fairly simple and easy to understand suits it

Just finished the game and was brought to this playlist by an in-game link. Very well made game! I enjoyed it a lot! Some suggestions that I have for the game is that the flare gun could have some other uses other than damaging enemies. I'm thinking that in the continuation (if it will have the same kind of gameplay), you could use the flare gun to light up flammable objects. This could be used to deter enemies from approaching you if used in certain ways. I'm also thinking that this could be used in rooms with very dim to pitch black darkness to light up the room to heighten visibility. Maybe this could be used in a maze?

The stealth mechanics for this game were perfect, they come in at just the right time where in this game where your only movement option is to drag yourself with one hand, that you're _finally_ really getting good at it, only to be stopped in your tracks and really think about what you're doing, while still having to be quick to draw your very slow but silent weapon.

Fun fact: Crossbows are actually loud and aren't silent. They make a loud Twang noise that can be heard at close range. So, this would actually be a bad weapon to fight with corpse traps nearby. I suppose movie logic applies here, since some movies have crossbows being rather silent.

Imagine a 3d first person version of this. Fumbling around with reloading while huge monsters are chasing you. That would be so scary.

As someone who works in maintenance irl, I feel like it would be a really cool idea to have objects to hide under. Depending on the place, these rooms can get *messy*, full of carts, tables and other things to hide in or under if your literally half of a man. Hidden areas off to the side with items in them would be normal. I have a small hidden break place myself that I hide in from time to time behind an air handler. A good few ideas could be the ducts of vents, or even have pipes that go high enough to crawl under, but the monsters cant get past easily. I'm not a game dev, but it's an idea that you hopefully can build apon a little.

Awesome video! Really like concept and idea of the game. This is a unique style that I have not played before. Grabbing guns from your backpack and then firing that is a clever idea. the fact that the sounds are all self recorded is very obvious and actually really impacts the immersion for me, it's mainly about the sounds being the exact same each time, and you can clearly hear when the sound cuts off, so maybe try pitching the sound a bit randomly each time, and maybe record some sounds that have a gradual end, but for the rest it looks absolutely amazing! great job so far

An idea to throw in, actually, more like trying to flesh out other's idea. The knife. It would be great to have a melee weapon in this game. Knives are stealth weapon meant to be used to backstab your enemies. It'll be cool if hitting enemies unaware to your presence deal more damage, and otherwise it deals less damage. The knife can also be used to access places otherwise inaccessible. I would like the player using some tools they have on them to solve puzzles too instead of simply being weapons or a syringe. But the problem is knives have infinite use and resource management is a huge part of this game. So I'll add resource management to the knife. Knives have sharpness, and you will pick up the knife along with a whetstone. The more you use the knife, the weaker the damage, until you cannot kill a mutated rat in 1 slash anymore. You need to sharpen after many use, but sharpening creates loud noises. Maybe add a limit on sharpening too, like how much undiscovered space/pixels you need to discover before you can sharpen again because sharpening a knife too much shortens the lifespan so your character consciously stop sharpening too much. Add an indicator to the knife so the player can see how much sharpness the knife has TL;DR Knife is stealthy, needed for some puzzles, has very high damage when hitting enemies oblivious to your presence, not as much when the enemy has discovered you. It can get blunt and needs sharpening. Sharpening creates loud noise and you need to discover enough undiscovered spaces before you can resharpen again

I have a suggestion! For death scenes 1. If your time runs out and the parasite reaches your brain the man will begin to scream in agony before his head explodes...only to reveal his brain stepping out of his skull...with six legs... 2. If a zombie kills you they will rip your final arm off the man will scream wiggling around helplessly before the screen slowly blacks out to crunchy chewy gory sounds... 3. If a rat kills you they will leap onto your back and start eating you while other rats join while you helplessly scream as the screen blacks out... Enemy idea similar to stealth add a scalpel, the knife can be used if out of ammo and in a emergency, won't deal much damage but will stun the enemy long enough to escape/reload. One use and can be found in medical/surgical parts of the lab. Carried in a little belt with a capacity of 3 knifes. Add a crafting system. If you find medicine and syringes you can craft a health vile. You simply need to pour one vial into the other, shake it put the needle to the cup and pull on the stick, bam you crafted a health kit. Add different ammo types for guns. Add incendiary shotgun shells lighting the enemy on fire for bonus damage and visibility. You will need to add alcohol and a rag on the bullet to make it flammable. Add whistling arrows that whistle as the fly to distract blind enemies, or a rock. possibly add a head light later game during really dark areas of the game. Needs batteries to work. Add safe rooms You can take shelter in them craft and figure out portable puzzle and save the game, on a computer but you need batteries to save a long with a lab table carrying one syringe and 2 medicine vials to not save lock yourself. Add a bleed out mechanic, add a second small hp bar next to the parasite bar that is a iv blood bag. Taking damage will open wounds on the man making you bleed. More open wounds will drain the IV bag faster. If it runs out you will have bleed to death resulting in a game over. You need to manually stitch open wounds and bandage them to stop bleeding. While no wounds are there you will slowly gain back blood. If to many wounds are open you will leave a blood trail wich enemy can follow wich will not allow you to escape. New enemy type idea explosive mutant lab bunnies. They will hop around loudly giving you a audio que when they are near. Upon detecting you they will leap at you giving you 3 secs to drag yourself away before they explode. If your fast enough you can shoot them before they get near stopping the explosion. Another enemy type, spider brains. Those infected with the parasite unfortunately died after they're brains grew legs and escaped...however they now pose a threat. They slowly move around squishing and squelching and leave a pink trail. Upon spotting you they will slowly waddle to you. If you shoot them for 1 damage they explode into half now two medium sized spider brains. Shooting again will split them in 3 and then they're fully dead. New weapon idea, uzi. Rapidly shoots bullets stored in clips that consume the same space as shotgun shells each containing 20 rounds. Useful against spider brains. Upon time after a brain escapes a scientist it begins to mutate further till it turns into a wing flying acid spitting projectile brain. They take 10 damage and explode acid when they die wich is harmful to crawl on. I think the man's name should be Craf inse. The lab on the asteroid was experimenting how to cure cancer with toxic materials. After horrifically failing on a monkey it super mutates and brutalizes everyone immiting works the size of pythons that infiltrate hosts by burrowing into thier digestive system through thier mouth. During the chaos the monkey destroys the holding cells of the failed experiments releasing the nightmares you are fighting now. You get caught in the middle of it and and after the worm finally gets down your throat you realize your surrounded by the freaks...your limbs get torn off. You manage to narrowly escape by dragging your self to the first aid station and proceed to burn your wounds shut you try to radio for help off the corpse in their but find out the monkey damaged the communications system leaving you stranded and alone...the only method of survival now is to get to the operation room to extract the parasite and then evacuate with a escape pod. The only problem..it's three floors down with each one containing horrifying deadly nightmarish monsters...good luck. Phew that's a essay right there...this is a amazing game keep up the good work! Hope one of my ideas gets used... You are amazing! Wish I could program games like this. Hope I helped good luck! Cant wait to get the full version of this!

Man this game is amazing. I'm surely gonna buy it when it comes out. Also some suggestions, i think adding a safe zone thing where it is like your own lab where you can take shelter or something where there are no monsters. And i also thought of adding an ending to the game where you find a way to neutralize the mutated monsters and also find a way to leave the meteor. Well anyways this game is cool keep it up

suggestion: you should add a "platforming" section at the end of the game in which you have to navigate through a tight space were walls deal damage (maybe not) and you are being pursued by a mutated snake. it would be a testament to the players grasp of controls, letting only experienced players through

I think a cool ending goal could be to make it to a command room to cause the base to self destruct to kill the parasites. Giving the players goal to stop the infection from reaching Earth or something.

Would be cool to have some small objects lying around on the floor you need to avoid knocking around so you don't alert enemies, maybe allow the player to grab and throw them to lure enemies away. Anyway I'm loving these videos! Amazing work on the game, can't wait to play it!

I recommend for the gunshot sounds shooting in a small indoor range, amplify the echo, you dont want any sound absorbing since the character is in a small enclosed lab.

I have a suggestion for firing guns inside extremely enclosed spaces like the air ducts: Make it so that when you fire the gun, the audio temporarily cuts out and is replaces by ringing. As someone who has touched off a gun inside a car (and forgot to put his ear pro back on before that), touching off guns inside a tiny metal box SUCKS and is LOUD and you will be deaf for a short time afterward.

This game looks amazing, I remember seeing the old version of it last a while ago and it looks much better. I do have a few suggestions for the game as well: the flare gun shouldn’t pierce enemies with fire but stick to one and make that the enemies focus (as well as if it sticks to walls); the rat enemies could hide in air vents or corners, and should be more erratic with movement when not hunting you; there could be some utility items like a knife to cut wires/open a box; an enemy that reacts to sight/the light but is quite loud in the dark. Thats all the suggestions i have for now but again, the game looks great so far

i dont know how you could implement this idea into the game but you could add a mental health bar. So if the player kills a lot of enemies the bar goes up and something will happen. just a random thought i thought would be nice to share. Great Devlog and i love the artstyle. Its so unique good job

Suggestion: Instead of the door levers opening from just one left click, make it so the player has to left click the lever and pull it by dragging the cursor from one direction to the other, just to add something

This is looking so awesome! Really loving the stealth mechanics. If you don't mind my critique, I would redo some of the SFX for the crossbow KERTHUNKING inside the enemies. It doesn't seem nearly juicy or KERTHUNKY enough.

A neat idea would be a flashlight, it lets you see better in fog but you can also make a burst of light that can blind enemies for a short time. But it only works with enemies with sight

You could add some sort of light upgrade that allows you to see farther, with the drawback that sighted enemies become more aggressive. I think that'd be cool.

You could add interactable lamps but they require you to hold onto it all the time but at the cost of lighting up the place around it, could work with some cool puzzles like codes where you cant see the code unless you turn the light on so it gives you enough range of vision to see the code, a small roadblock, you could also add save stations in a way cry of fear did it where you need to find tape recorders or something of that kind for a difficulty, or make it a main feature of the game.
