Japanese saws are great. We have been getting sawing all wrong here in the West. Those little kiridashi knives are awesome little tools too. I kind of think going of this little axe, maybe we are not doing too badly with the axe in our neck of the woods. Thanks for watching Ilari.

Indeed, but for most people, I think maybe a boring old Fiskars would be a better buy. If you really want to be the cool kid in camp though, a Fiskars is out of the question 🤣. Thanks for watching Gruggs.

Certainly looks good. I really like the Shinto markings on the cheeks of the axe. It performs quite well too. I think it would have performed better if I had of sharpened it a bit before putting it to the test though. Thanks for watching my friend.

Very cunning idea with the wedges to allow for humidity changes - shows it's a well thought out product I suppose! A strange mix of utilitarianism meets mysticism with the side grooves - very Japanese! Take care mate👍

Thank you Steve it is very different this one. Nice size for a camp axe. Not the best value for money, but very interesting. Not particularly one that I would recommend. From a practical perspective there are better options in that price range. Have a fantastic weekend mate.

Thanks Dan, to be honest I thought it would be better. From my experience of Japanese tools I thought it would be top notch but it was pretty avarage. Also if you buy them new, they are not too cheap. Not expensive either but you can get better for that money.

Awesome axe ! ..I know the Japanese are master blade makers from their legendary katana swords ! This axe needs a bit of TLC for sure.. nothing you can't handle bro !! I do however like the Swedish made axes and have one that is about 30 years old with a hickory helve.. and it has had 30 years of my stupidity to deal with.. yet still going strong !! lol Great review !! ..you made light work of felling that larch !! ..and it certainly hacked through that pine like a knife through butter !! Unni was out of the way with her friend Indigo during most of the shooting. Falling trees not very safe for dogs. Sweden makes some great axes, I do have a preference towards Finnish ones though but I am biased. I also think the good old British Kent pattern axe is one of the most underrated tools on the planet. Tim, you know that I think you're a good guy and all, buuut I think you're on your own with that axe! Lol! Not only is it "odd" but that handle... Looks mostly round? Like a tomahawk handle? I also saw that thing bouncing around quite a bit, so I wondered if it was sharp... especially on the shaving part of things. Thanks for sharing! Peace!

It wasn't very sharp as I said in the video. Not awful though. I should probably have put an edge on it before working with it. Also pretty light. The handle is oval. Very much like my cold steel trail hawk, also not an axe for finer work. It's not bad but I am kind of glag that I didn't pay full price for it. Thanks for watching mate.

I'd have to round off that handle , it would drive me crazy. Even if it was just hanging on a wall , my attention would always be drawn towards that unfinished square shape. My internal ocd thoughts would be ..... "Must fix square , must make it right, must finish handle , fix fix fix it" 🤪🤣

I kind of want to keep it tat way as it is a Japanese axe and it would seem wrong to change it to something more like every other axe that I own 🤣. We are all different. I do think western axes are maybe more my cup of tea though.

@KuukkeliBushcraft Yes, you are right , I understand that totally. I have that problem with reprofiling edges . I end up putting the same edge on everything that's the same style grind. Scandis and convex edges are fun, but using a different grind is necessary for me once in a while or bordem will set in 😉 I used a full flat grind once for 6 months straight , that was weird. I actually learned how to use them quite well and thought I'd never return . Nope, that ole scandi puukko bug got me again , I just love a good puukko style blade.
