It's the same thing that went wrong with Nebraska, Maryland, and Rutgers. Sometimes leaving your conference can not only make you lose how you scout players in different regions, but also loses your identity as a program. This is why I don't like the direction how college football is going. We're starting to lose that connection to the regions and the rivalries with other programs. It feels more unnecessarily conventional than a genuine process for competitive college football programs.

The decision to move to the SEC was because of money. Mizzou was losing money each year by being in the Big 12 and their uneven split on TV money (Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M got a higher share) made it difficult for the agreement to make sense. This was also around the time the Big 12 was starting to turn into a higher-profile Conference USA.

People are overreacting IMO. We had 3 chances to win this game since the last 1:30 of the 4th Q. We are still transitioning the roster and are missing a D1 QB. I think Cook is a great kid and Im rooting for him, but he doesnt have the arm to make us competitive in the SEC. The OL doesnt do him any favors, either. Drinkwitz's job is to put the team in a position to win. We were in that position several times. Auburn looked terrible for 3 quarters of the game and that was no accident. The biggest issue with Drink is all of the god forsaken penalties, which 100% land on coaching.
@BigDog-zk8pr2 жыл бұрын
@@elliott8833 agreed, we had the whole second half to win because our defense was shutting them down, and penalties ultimately gave Auburn their only chances in the second half. Coaching does play a role in penalties, but not when it comes to in game. I played with several guys that would do sprints until we tired of watching them for all of the dumb penalties they had. Coaching will help with discipline, but when it comes to the snap of the ball, its the decision and mindset of the player that decides whether or not he will commit a penalty

Second Time: Over time, Auburn missed their field goal, now all Mizzou has to do is get the ball, not really have to move it much, kick a field goal and win, but nope, your dumb ass defensive tackle is off side. They listened to the media who always props up the SEC as if it's the NFL and dogged the big 12 because our offenses we're so good at running the spread (what the NFL basically is today) that every defense looked bad playing against 4 and 5 wide every play from the shotgun. And to be fair padded the offensive stats and inflated to defensive stats. But FF to today and the NFL is basically the big 12. No one is under center. QB's are passing for more yards than ever. The guy you also praised at the start of the video ? 2004 was the year that Pinkle and Dave Christenson started implementing the spread and tried making Brad Smith into a pocket passer - which he was not. 2004 was hardly Brad Smiths fault as he was not utilized correctly and the offensive production suffered. No, Cook is the worst QB since Matty Mauk. Mauk was meh in 2014 and AWFULL in 2015. So awful he was lifted for a true freshman, and later dismissed for his failure to follow team rules. Missouri football is subpar because they have poor leadership from the top down and it shows regularly in their sloppy play. They have had 4 ADs and 3 head coaches in 7 years. That's not even mentioning the unbelievable turnover at assistant coaching positions. You want winning football? It starts with consistent, quality leadership and coaching. Pinkle proved you don't need 4 and 5 star players to be good. He regularly took 3 and 2 stars who were raw and coached them up because he had a consistent coaching staff and an AD that supported him. It really does come down to this.

I agree a lot with what you said is wrong with the team. I think the biggest issue is the same thing that was at my high school, they only expect to beat the FCS teams. I was at the K-State game getting bullied by my friends, who go to K-State. They play too timid against the good teams. When they play a low tier team they look like they are trying to make big high risk plays every down. When they play FBS, it seems like they are trying to just be safe and not mess up. The best way to sum that up is they are playing to not lose, when they should be playing to win.

Just a really unfortunate time for Pinkel to get that horrible diagnosis that caused him to retire - truly horrible and personally ambitious chancellor and AD, threats of funding cuts from the state b/c of an election year, a bad year from a win loss perspective, and social upheaval in the state and university following Ferguson, which led to some alumni cutting support. Kind of the perfect storm. The NCAA sanctions a few years later for absolute BS was the cherry on top. Mizzou fans forget just how many bad things happened in Missouri over the last 8 years - the revenue losses to the university (which was never rich to begin with) has been a major hurdle. This goes deeper than x and o play. Only way to overcome it is with renewed investment in the university

From an ex-coaches perspective….Well, it has not been fun, but I was really impressed with the effort at Auburn….they are not the best in the SEC but they are a good football team and to go toe to toe with them at their house is encouraging. Those 2 misplays (FG and Fumble) just happen….ask any coach…when KIDS (18-22 yr olds) are trying really hard. THEN to turn around and play the number 1 team in the rankings as hard as they did….I love the team and the effort they are giving. I think with experience and seasoning things will turn around scoring wise, but they have to keep up the intensity and effort. True the QB situation needs improvement and that can come with experience or otherwise. I have coached a lot of years and many times have seen my teams or opponents get SO close to gelling and getting that all important key win that allows them to realize they can beat anyone, but they didn’t quit, worked hard and finally got that first hard win and things took off. I think this team is close and hope they get in that work and keep playing hard…they will get that win.

As a die hard Razorback fan, UofA alumni, and a person who has had half his family attend Mizzou, from what they tell me, a lot of Mizzou's problems stem from the university itself. Some have already mentioned some of the very public social/political issues surrounding Mizzou, but my family who are alumni say Mizzou just isn't a fun place to be anymore. Students are suspicious of each other and the faculty are lazy in their education for fear of upsetting someone. Essentially, campus life has disappeared. My family says Missouri residents are starting to choose Missouri State over Mizzou. Arkansas, other than track and field and baseball, suffered the worst 10 years in football, lackluster in basketball, and stagnate in other sports. When the UofA hired Hunter Yurachek, he rallied the state like the late great Frank Broyles did. Now, our sports overall are flourishing and we as a fanbase/alumni/current students, have a "we're in this together attitude. Heck, our softball team just landed a top 30 softball player(our softball team has exploded in recent years) and the player stated one of the deciding factors was when she got to go on the sidelines and meet Sam Pittman, stating Pittman talked up not only coach Diefel, but the UofA and softball with her, OUR FOOTBALL COACH. Eric Musselman, Sam Pittman, and Dave Van Horn, coaches of our 3 biggest sports can be seen regularly at each others games as well as soccer, softball, gymnastic, and volleyball(also starting to explode) regularly. The culture of "we are the Razorbacks" has exploded the university as a whole and Mizzou can get that back as well.

I always find Missouri interesting to look at, because they had such success in the Big 12 yet I can't find one Missouri fan who would rather go back there even with all that success. I mean they almost played for a national championship and now are a bottom feeder but I still haven't found one Missouri fan who would take success over the conference. I mean I get wanting to be in the sec, it's the best by far. But at what point do you start to miss the days of being a top 15 or 20 program. I realize that Missouri won the SEC East twice but that was in the first year with their big 12 talent. Is there a Missouri fan out there who would rather be a top 20 program consistently but would rather be in the Big 12?

The problem is despite all the recruiting the results just arent there since he took over, outside of the stunning and insane win over LSU. Eventually winning has to come and just dont think that will happen under Drink. I think its gonna take another person like a Pinkel, who can completely transform and revitalize the program like he did. Im already looking forward to basketball season though and I'm a big believer in Dennis Gates.

@@ScottFisherCFB Yeah, Gates has a really good track record, there's a solid list of current NBA players from his time as an assistant at FSU and the job he did at Cleveland State was really impressive. I do appreciate your honest and respectful breakdown of KU that you made. But that is my best objective look at the team I mean I want to see KU win every game but I know realistically those are going to be our hardest games and I don’t think we are at the point that we can pull it out in those games. But if we win tomorrow against ISU we should be ranked finally. As well I love what our coach has done in our program. Gary Pinkel started the downfall by siding w/the protesters and stood w/the players who skipped practices to attend protests. That was the beginning of the downslide and will continue until (if ever) a coach tells the so called players, and shows them, football and winning comes first. When they get blown out, as they usually do, let them protest.
@JjsWorld772 жыл бұрын
Man dont let us become another Nebraska. After they lost Tom Osbourne they have almost literally fallen off the face of the earth. So we had the best Coach in our schools history in Gary Pinkel the Mizzou GOAT. But it is a new era in college football and the world. Uniform combos and social media (+$$) is what gets recruits in 2022-23. Drink is young and I think he can speak to this generation. He is calling plays down to what he has at QB. I say let him have a chance to instill his culture and personality at least. I mean the last 3 years have been world changing. Drink has been here thru all of that. Let some of the recruits have a chance to make a difference. Give Drink 2-3 more years to get a QB. We're not some big money school that can afford to keep buying out millions of dollars in contracts.

After just the first 3 minutes..I would say I have to disagree. I believe they are (possibly) a QB away from being a 9 win team for this season. Playing one of the toughest early season schedules they have takan the defending National Champs and a couple historically great SEC programs to the wire. And the biggest problem I see (aside from having a decent QB) are simple mental errors and unfamiliarity that comes from a relatively young team with no real leadership. Add to that the fact that many of these guys have played together only the games this season. I believe Coach Drink deserves at least another year to 1: find a QB and 2: have some time to establish his culture with proper team leadership amongst his players. I agree he still may not be the answer...but he has brough talent to Columbia that can run with the Georgia's of our league. So don't give up yet.
