I would suggest putting blocks underneath the bottom of the stand where you installed your new support beams. That way that load isn't just transferred to the bottom shelf that is not flat on the ground. Which is probably how it was intended, but your floor is not level either. 👌🏼

Hopefully this will work out for you. Happend to me once too and I hand to hammer in some 2 x 4 lumber. Problem is that these stands are made of cheap engineered wood that do not like water. That being said - I'd throw in some screws from the other side of the walls into the lumber to tighting it up a bit. Just in case you accidently hit one of them and knock it out of place or worse they start to bow out. If you can put the lumber in the same placement on both sides of the wall and then can screw all 3 pieces together (lumber | walll | lumber) then it will be much stronger. Finally, if you can cut the lumber i would suggest you add 2 piece perpendicular to the verical pieces so the load is distrubuted across the beams. Good luck! love your videos!

It's a very big undertaking. I just had to re-do my 75 gallon tank, taking everything out, catching all the fish. All the buckets, plants, hardscape, substrate. Took about 6 hours of time, but once you get into a rhythm it's not so bad. It's starting that's the hardest part. But now I'm done and happy. Looking forward to your finished project. Keep up the great work!

I'm glad that you solved the problem but on the other hand I was successful that this layoit btl only lasted 3 months. What recently surprised me was that my food from the same manufacturer, but with different dimensions, was also collapsing in the middle two weeks ago. I also made wooden supports and it seems to have helped.😊

Good call to dismantle the big shallow. Unfortunately I have experience with deformed cabinets and broken aquariums because of it. It's definitely not worth the water damage and dead fish. Like many suggest in the comments it is a wise idea to strengthen the bottom as well since it is not resting directly on the floor. And for the new project, a iwagumi like those of the green machine might be a cool idea :)

I just want to say that for a relative beginner who has faced a lot of challenges, its actually reassuring to watch a video of the problems you experience, almost more inspiring than the average beautiful scape video which feels like you just instantly set up a tank, plant it with more plants than I could put in in one installation, and have it look perfect in 30 minutes. When I see you dealing with problems, it helps me understand how I should approach problem solving myself, which makes me more likely to be proactive about dealing with issues instead of feeling intimidated and having them get worse! I know as a youtuber it must be tempting to hide all the imperfections and make everything look amazing all the time, but again, thanks for documenting your struggles as well. I am getting much better about actively attacking small problems which keeps them from becoming big problems, which keeps me enjoying the tank more, which makes maintenance more enjoyable and less of a burden... and the cycle continues, until I feel a lot less stress overall. Thanks man!

Hi Mark, good luck with this. I assume you are confident the cabinet was weakened by the central feet being set too low, not that the floor gave under the weight. If the floor, then surely you do need a board to spread the weight evenly under the cabinet. Think the support 'sticks', timbers, reinforcement beams, are a good idea.

You could easily fix the issue of the cabinet by just adding a MDF of 3-5cm in between the aquarium and the cabinet. I had this issue before for the same reasons and after fixing it, even with water splashing in the MDF, I never had issues again. Of course the MDF must be painted and reinforced against water to avoid swallowing parts. It's cheap, easy to do and in the end looks good, if painted at the same color of the cabinet.

Usually the back of any furniture brings the main rigidity, as with humans. I see now that the cabinet lacks its back and I believe this is one of the main reasons for the problem. Think about adding back plates and make holes for the pipes and cables if the current upgrade ends up failing. Hope it won't of course.

Watching basically every JSAqua video, the foam is 100% the issue. No matter how thick the cabinet’s wooden board is, it will bend under the pressure of the mat. Two mat stripes left and right are enough. The aquarium can float in the center.

Honestly mate just get a carpenter in. The load ontop must be like 500+ kg. You’re gonna need decent support for that kind of load. If I were to suggest anything for now. It would be installing 5 leg supports, one on each corner and one in the middle, or even two. But wouldn’t leave you much space to put everything back in. Gl

Just an idea. The foam is a problem, too. In your case. The Cabinet is not built for heavy Scapes like this. So, if you load it, is quite common, that heavy Tanks will behave like that when used with foam and these Cabinets. What you can do to improve that is, next to improving the cabinet, having a stable and straight surface and then, maximum, these hard and really thin foams, you often usw beneath laminate floor ( I do not know the english word. German: Laminatboden). There IS somewhere a "paper" on this behavior. But it's in german (Should work for you, i guess?) and i have to search for it. The bottomglass will form somekind of belly in the middle, that will push pressure in the center and because of the foam, there is no direct resistance and the Edges of the Wooden Baseplate warp upwards, while the center sinks in. The whole Wooden Plate warpes. This does not happen, if you place your Tank without or with just a really thin and rather hard foam beneath. This is aways part of a huge discussion. Often people say "i use styrofoam since '78 and never had a problem." Because Styrofoam ist not like these "aquarium" Foammatts. They are way too soft for their thickness. This is mostly important when having heavy tanks. Most of the time, the tank will be fine, even with these foammats. But not heavy tanks. These standard cabinets are often not suited for heavy loads like this. It is laughable sometimes. And now. let the hatecomments begin.
