Born and raised Catholic and planning on dying a faithful servant of Christ as a faithful member of His Church! This movie shows the reality of the power of God’s love for us and how we are blessed by serving one another in love! Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Great movie about great men of God fighting evil with love.

@@LV-wl7ch wtf? Get an education and stop repeating anti-Catholic crap, man. The Inquisition at its worst estimates condemned 32,000 people in the span of 400 years, far less than secular courts. Doesn't mean we have not come a long way in how justice systems works today, but get some historical context and facts right instead of repeating nonsense. Atheist Communist regimes and occult-mystic ideologies like Nazism (see influence of Blavastky) should be your real concern as we have renewals of these persistent heresies today.

I'd like to answer my own question posed in an earlier comment. After a little research, I know that Herbert Kappler was put on trial for war crimes in 1947 and condemned to a life sentence in an Italian prison. His wife Leonore divorced him in 1948, so that's why she didn't visit him in prison. He had supervised the killing of 335 Italian civilians during the war, which explains why he was given a long sentence. He eventually escaped from an Italian hospital and died from stomach cancer 6 months later in Germany, aged 70. Hugh O'Flaherty suffered a stroke, returned to Ireland and died in 1963, aged 65. Maybe the stress of the war and his work saving others shortened his own life. As you see, this was a haunting film.

I don't understand. You are saying the ending in the movie was not true? Why would Kappler escape the Italian hospital if he had a lifelong sentence and he had "converted"? Though I don't know what they were doing to him in that hospital. And I suppose "Nina" could be a nickname for "Leonore"? Interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if O'Flaherty had something to do with commuting Kappler's sentence to life imprisonment, too. Most Nazi officers were hanged.

When I have been in the Roman Synagoge together with a group of American visitors, one of the guests started insulting and blaming pope Pius XII for not having helped the Jews, whilst being well informed on what the German plans were for extermination after railway transports to the camps in the east. The Synagoge guide's firm statement was then, that most probably there has not been another single person helping as much as the pope, not personally but ordering monasteries and parishes to protect Jewish lives.

Dear,@@nedludd7622 Dear, I have been asking the same question ever since I read the Diary of Ann Frank when I was 14-15 years old. I am Catholic and what the priests would say is that God does not want to interfere in our lives, he gives us freedom to choose. I happen to disagree with those priests. I blame, mostly all those nations who knew what was going on in Germany and they chose not to interfere in time to stop before millions of Jews were being slaughtered. It is not mythology or fairytales. Yes, the Jews people have been suffering for thousands of years. I honestly believe that the Jews people are Gad’s chosen people to teach and guide the rest of us on how to live our lives. When a child is favored by his parents, the rest of the siblings hate that child. Very good example is, Joseph and how he was hated by his brothers. I don’t know if I am making any sense, but I feel your pain. I’ve watched many documentaries about the gruesome Holocaust of Nazi Germany, and I always get amazed and cry on how we humans can be so cruel to each other. It is my daily prayer for God to interfere and stop this current war. May God give peace to the Jews people and the world!✡✡✡

Oh, thank you so very much! An Uplifting story. We need to hear such stories to give us strength and courage in this very troubled time. As well as the story, the acting is wonderful. I loved the ending of this story as well. The Christian message is forgiveness. But how very difficult the choice. How does one confront EVIL? Pope Pius XII had a very difficult role in those difficult days. I think he did the best he could. RIP All those who are no longer with us but have entertained us with their talent!

Not just a great movie but a powerful life story of a remarkable man. I dont know anyone in today's time who would endeavour on such a journey. All I know that today's so called leaders go unpunished for their crimes of war. Monsignor was not a priest but rather a man who understood what is and practised unconditional love.

The connection to Ireland with Gregory Peck were deep and actually historical his grandmother an Ashe was related to Thomas Ashe who died while on hungerstrike in Mountjoy Prison, Dublin while being force fed in 1917 he is remembered for taking part in the 1916 EASTER RISING was imprisoned and died .There is yet another Hollywood connection too, Gregory Peck would have known Barry Fitzgerald his stage name and his brother Arthur Shields who also fought in the 1916 rising and was interned, and knew Thomas Ashe ,Peck was a frequent visitor to Ireland and made Moby Dick there in 1954 the New Bedford scenes were actually Youghal Co Cork, once home to Sir Walter Raleigh and Edmund Spencer, The Princess Diana Spencer Family .

Monsignor O`Flaherty is not listed among the Righteous Gentiles. Is it because he helped the family of Colonel Kapler escape to Switzerland? If so, I can relate to that 100%. Forgiveness is not easy, especially for those who have the most to forgive. Still, if you can forgive, it is so liberating! One other thought, on the matter: Just as the Nazis did horrible things, other nations in history have done wonderful things. Just as an example, the Choctaw nation helped Ireland during the famine, even when they themselves were poor. That act of kindness will NEVER be forgotten.

This is a stunning movie, I enjoyed very much watching it without being interrupted by the advertising. A perfect example of the Catholic's battle against the Antichrist. What a courageous man risking his life with the faith and the guidance of God. One of my favourite powerful scenes was at 1:29:01 when Mon Seigneur O’Flaherty started to say to the Head of the Gestapo; “No, you, listen to me!” also the one at 1:00:13 sadly he was executed, but not by his people who respected the servant of God, then the most unexpected scene at 2:09:05. Thank you ever so much for having uploaded that film. Good Wishes to you All. God Bless you. A.
