The entire concept of nonconsensual mediation orders is offensive. I know that my state supreme court doesn't agree, but ordering a party to mediation when they don't want to go just puts settlement pressure on whichever side is most harmed by expense and delay.

I had thought otherwise, but you make a good point. She isn't going to agree, so it's just going to cost her time, money, and risk. But the judge also could not dismiss the case outright as there are triable issues.

If you go in with your plan firmly in mind, it can be useful. A) you find out what's important to both sides, b) sometimes partial or temporary agreements are made, c) sometimes full reasonable resolutions are reached. But that's only true if you have a plan and are willing to walk out when it's time.

When I was stationed in the UK, I bought a house with cash. A few months later, I met my ex wife. Within 2 years, we were married and filing for divorce. I was forced to sell the house and she was given half, even though I paid for the house before I ever met her, and we were together a very short time. So length of time doesn't appear to matter to the law.

I haven't commented in a long time but this case hit home with me. I was married for a year when I was young. To get him to leave, I had to give him all the money, furniture and everything else. The night he loaded everything up and was finally going away, he reached down to pick up my dog. I became so enraged that I threatened him that if he touched my baby, I would end him. He left without saying another word. I was ready to completely end him over her. She lived a long happy life with me. I didn't care about replaceable things but not mybaby.

❤ 💯 girl!!! I have a 6 year old Australian Shepherd that I got for my ex on Father's Day in 2017. He made a comment about taking her after he beat me up, just to get under my skin. It worked, I let him know he'd never walk again. Especially after what he did to me then, attempting to take her. She goes everywhere I can possibly take her, and I got a husky. Took a bit, but they're besties❤ He even took my father's 2007 RAM that he left me when he passed in 2013. He'll get his karma, I'm very patient

It is her dog and so when she gets on a new relationship she will have to tell her new boyfriend my ex boyfriend is coming over to get MY dog for visitation??? Really !! The new boyfriend would say you are bonkers I don’t know if I want to keep dating you. I have 2 Westies and they are mine and will always be mine. If I choose to share them it is up to me. Hey Mike, I have a French bulldog so I understand all of the donations to the pups! Mine was a rescue. She was a breeder so her bladder isn’t the best so she wears diapers in the house. Not just any diapers. Expensive baby diapers that I cut a hole in for her tail or she gets a rash. . She has allergies so a 20 lb bag of food is over $100 per bag. She has seasonal allergies so it gives her ear infections and it’s $500 + for her vet visits! I love that dog and I rescued her from a horrible situation. She is worth every 100’s of $ I spend on her. Thank you for being a lover of the pups!

As someone who’s (in the past) escaped an abusive, controlling relationship and had the guy do everything he could to upset, control and ruin me in the years to follow, this really does frustrate me. Forcing the woman to participate in mediation by Zoom might remove (at least most of) the physical danger, but it’s still forcing her to engage with her abuser and that’s absolutely not OK. IMHO, the judge was completely out of order on this one, and needs to get some training around the issues of domestic abuse, coercion and control before she continues in her job. It’s obvious even to a legally untrained eye what’s going on here - the douchebag is trying to use the woman’s dog to force her into interacting with him - so how the judge didn’t see and address that is beyond me.

I have a friend on my paperwork at the vet simply for convenience. She cares for my dog when I'm away. That doesn't mean she's part owner of the dog, I just know she loves the dog and wanted her to have decision making ability in an emergency.

I had white kitchen cabinets that did that cracking and peeling off. It was so embarrassing . I couldn't afford new cabinet fronts so we had a painter peel off the exterior and paint them the same shade of white. The painter used a spray gun. It wasn't expensive. It was quick. They were beautiful and lasted years until finances were better.

I never had to go to Knox county court, but I did get a ticket on the highway in Fayette county. The time on the ticket was morning call, however, traffic was afternoon call. My wheelchair bound child had an “appointment” in Memphis that day. I learned of shake and bake meth manufacture while driving and hunting over bait that morning! I showed the clerk my court time on the ticket during break and informed her of my child’s “appt”. She called the DA out to the desk and he asked if I was guilty and I said no, he said everybody says that. I responded I was definitely not cooking meth while driving my kid to a drs appt at LeBonheur! He dismissed the ticket. My kids “appt” was late lunch with my friend in Memphis!

In the case of the dog, simple take away: Don't play house. Do not play house. As absurd as this case may seem, the defendant's actions forced the judge's hand. She chose to list her boyfriend as an owner both at the vet and on the microchip. That makes actual ownership triable. Yet again, DO NOT PRETEND TO BE MARRIED.

While O generally agree I at one point had my roommate listed on the vet amd microchip paper work so they could pick them up from places like animal control if it was needed. Since dogs are considered property you have to be on those things to be able to pick them up

I know we all feel attachment to our dogs, but legally they are property, as his lawyer said. If two people break up after buying a stereo, one of them gets the stereo and on of them gets the value of that stereo. They can’t sue for shared custody of the stereo. This case should be no different.

I feel bad for the traffic case, the judge still did not understand the difference between the through-light cycling and the turn-signal light. I've been to intersections like that, where the turn-light only comes on every few cycles, not every time the through-lane goes green. I would have just turned when it was green without the arrow, which is illegal, out of frustration and the cop wouldn't have stopped me. Those lights are BS.

It's not illegal. Most states (including TWO I personally have lived in) allow you to turn right unless it is prohibited, that also includes red lights. I don't know where you live but you should do more research.

So, essentially, Austin's Judge Naranjo decision further strips all meaning out of traditional marriage. Relationships are whatever we invent them to be. A single woman's involvement with a man may erode and/or join her personhood over time, regardless of whether anyone stood up in front of a pastor and swore "to have and to hold ... until death do us part" Another good reason not to cohabitate unless and until you're married.

For that traffic ticket, it is horrible to require the roadside tests or fine people for refusing them. If you have probable cause, get a warrant for blood, or do the real breath test after arrest. Those roadside tests have been found to be as reliable as a teen behaving on prom night. Also, the judge asked the cop the wrong question. He should have asked "did you observe at that time the turn signal on the light that he ignored?" Instead of how long did the guy sit there? If the guy testified the turn signal never turned green, the officer should have to at least have to say yes it did, I saw it.
