Great video. I've been trying to correct my 10 year old's mechanics for the last 2 seasons. He started out great but got lazy and developed bad habits. We finally got him corrected again when he got that elbow up and heard the ball smack the glove and saw the difference in his velocity and accuracy.

Just got home from our first post-lockdown 14U tournament. We had 3 pitchers complaining of elbow pain, including my son. That's partially due to their arms not being in shape, but even more due to dropping their elbows. Dropping the elbow is an inferior technique in terms of performance, but it can also lead to pain and even injury, at any age. Do your kid a favor and follow the advice in this video. Teach them the right way the first time, and if they revert to bad habits, get with them to fix it asap. And remember, keep it positive and FUN!

How so? The grandfather in this video at the end was throwing with a low elbow. Do you mean on the follow through? I’ve yet to see any major leaguer throw with a high elbow. Even if it’s high on the way back it eventually drops to even or below. Do you mean on the way back before foot plant?

Wish there was a better angle of the coach making a barrier for that kids elbow. The top angle of the shot leaves it unclear how high the coaches arm is. Is it at the thrower's sternum level or lower?
@MJHBaseball2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, sorry. That's security camera footage. I put my arm at the shoulder height. This forces the elbow to pass higher than the shoulder on the throws. To get this to work, however, it needs to be done a lot at home too in order to train the brain to relearn that muscle movement.

In all fairness, I bet the yelling guy had a kid that was throwing crappy on purpose and being hardheaded. Ive been there
@kpac1032 ай бұрын
It sounds like you need validation for yelling and guilt tripping your kids. It’s just as easy to walk away without being harsh with words. Those words hurt and are hard to get back.
@decker5282 ай бұрын
@@kpac103 nope. Don't need anyone's approval. Anyone that has never gotten frustrated and yelled at their kids either doesn't have kids, is loaded up on some kind of meds or drugs to keep them calm, or just has a kid they let do whatever they want

I taught my Grandson how to throw. He now throws a bistering hard fastball. He is only 8. I am now having to teach him how to throw just a tad slower so his first basemanl can catch it. He is a second base man. His last game he made a great stop of a hard hit ball...but muff it by throwing a lolipop to his firstbaseman. I told him I would rather see him throw hard than throw a lolipop ball .The Firstbaseman will just learn how to catch it. lol

I throw the hardest on my team and I’m not saying that to flex I just throw sidearm because of low elbow because I throw hard when I see people low elbow I think I’m doing it right because it’s slow

Watch that elbow above the shoulder. As a pitcher that will eventually lead to Tommy John. 100 percent. You should delete this video. It’s one thing to toss the ball without any rotation or linear movement. These kids are shot putting the ball. The elbow above the shoulder is not optimal. There are orthopedic doctors on KZbin addressing little league shoulder. They DO NOT advocate throwing this way. Elbow even with shoulder is fine. Also, The example you showed of the pitcher “getting his elbow up” was actually him moving into a sideways bend to get the ball to the center of the plate. That can lead to back issues.

He said, "At or above the shoulder. The farther the throw the higher the elbow." If you think that's wrong, then you'll need to tell these guys in this video.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/bX-vnKpoptp0iJI

I see plenty of pitchers with high elbows who have never had Tommy John. So much for the 100% you claim. Maybe you should delete your comment.
