Youth Baseball Little League World Series. Coach and manager mistakes and missteps.
Update: The player that did not complete his at bat because the 3rd out was made while he was in the batter's box and before completing his at bat...this rule was changed by Little League in 2021 to now read, "A player enters the batter’s box with no count and completes that time at bat by being retired, retired as a batter-runner or runner, scores, or the inning or game ends."

Wow that coach is definitely in the right job. Such a nice, encouraging guy. He’s the coach you want your kid to have for sure.

Milkyboy4 it’s because they don’t want to put pressure on them, they’re playing to get to a world tournament and already in the regionals. They don’t want to scare or frighten the pitcher

I've been umpiring LL for twenty years and don't often like to point out errors or blown calls by my fellow volunteers but.....I am alway amazed how in the LL world series 4 or 6 umpires on the field can miss an obvious call or as in this case #1, the fact the coach made 3 visits in the game. I'd have thought one of the umpires on the field would have caught it and called time as soon as the coach started to return to the dugout. I think too, by this time of the season, the coach can't use the "it's a new rule" excuse.

in my district, on a 4-man crew it's U2's responsibility to keep track of the visits. I believe this is common, but I don't want to go saying it's that way everywhere.

or, they know that the official scorer keeps track of visits and will alert them
@davej3781
@davej3781 4 жыл бұрын
@@mptr1783 yeah, and the scoreboard has the count and the outs, so no need to keep track of that either. No, charging and tracking visits is the umpire crew's responsibility, the official scorer is a fallback when the crew has missed it

I remember when my son was on an all-star team. The team took 15 players to give more exposure... the coach in one game dealing with MPR was having a headache and almost made 3 different goofs just trying to get the last player in.. and I had to stop him.. (I was the scorekeeper for the team).. but I've also seen headaches for coaches when I'm the umpire too. At the HS level when the coach was not paying attention to his bench.. sent up a pinch hitter for the pitcher in a second straight inning.. (The pitcher was now out of re-entries... I got to break the news to him that as of that hitter going into the box..his pitcher of records day was done... and he realized I was right... oops..). Sorry to say, I know the umpire that missed that call w/ OK.. He should know better and have made the notes.. I won't name him here.. better to leave it anon....

It's very unlikely that they will cancel or delay the Little League world series at Williamsport. Those contracts are very large and lucrative and they are held the last half of August because there's literally no other sports competition on those two weeks.

@@MJHBaseball Hey I'm going to bug you again lol. How about an informal poll. Do people think the pitcher should be allowed to finish no matter what the pitch count is ? I've seen pitchers pulled in the middle of outs. Let him finish.

@@nickhill8612 The pitcher in Little League is allowed to finish the batter if he reaches his pitch limit. For example: it the pitcher starts the last batter at 84 pitches he can continue to pitch to that batter until he's out or reaches base even if it's 95+ pitches. But then, yes, he must come out.

Example #2...you narrate a "pinch runner coming to the plate" this is incorrect...in LL it would be a straight substitution in order to meet mandatory play
@MJHBaseball
@MJHBaseball 4 жыл бұрын
Okay, you got me in this one. Technically there are never "pinch hitters" in little league. Only substitute batters. And a pinch runner can be used but they're not called pinch hitters when they hit. So I did get that one wrong in the narration and I should not have because I usually catch the commentators making little mistakes like that.

The scorekeeper's job to keep track of mound visits?? In every other form of baseball\softball it is the plate umpire's job to keep track and enforce the rule. Little League. The only organization that allows a starter to be in the game at the same time as his substitute.

This is the All Star Tournament with over 6,000 teams in a single tournament that lasts two months from start to finish. The official score keeper is instructed to catch this if the umpires fail to do so. So, yes, the umpires should know, but if they don't, the "box office" needs to say something to prevent a protest. This is specifically written in the rule book of Little League Tournament Play.

Also, since when does a pitcher throw a ball 84' ? Please check your narration
@MJHBaseball
@MJHBaseball 4 жыл бұрын
Okay, on this one you are the one who's wrong. LOL. The narration says the catcher throws 84 ft. It does not say the picture. And in Little League it's 84 ft from home plate to second base. And since the runner can't take off until the catcher basically has the ball, he's expected to run 60 ft before the catcher can throw 84 ft.
