I don't care what they say about you, I am 75, & although I am not an electrician, I have learned a lot from your great instruction video., even though I wouldn't legally be allowed to carry out these tests, but this gave me a greater in depth understanding. I have now subscribed. Martin UK

Keith, this is a topic that I was eager to learn about... You did a great job on explaining in simple terms what an Insulation Test is all about and how it can help us troubleshoot some of the electrical situations that occur on electrical systems...

Good video. I was thinking there is a way to seclect the proper voltage for the wire. I want so say it was something like 5 times the actual voltage used on the wire.

How would one diagnose a turn to turn short in the winding not shorted to chassis on a single phase 120-220VAC motor? Motor is working but pulls a little more amps. Caps are fine.

thank you for your training. But i have Insulation tester from Uni-T U512 and when i want to test the Cables in the all time just show the result of OL and i don't know is is correct or not. and when i want to show the result to any one they don't accept it because of not exact number. could you please share the training for uni-T insulation tester? regards, S.Jafar

This is the most dangerous video I have ever seen. This could get someone killed. Proving dead with a non contact voltage indicator or a multimeter is utterly wrong. The description of the theory for insulation resistance is good. Please update as not to kill someone!

My two cents. Our newly opened Subway Train Systems behave intermittently due to the poor insulation of many installed signal and power cables. The involved constructor has to replace all with heavy penalty, and many down times and inconveniences completely put off the local commuters. Obviously, many vendors has occasionally failed to complied the submitted Tender's Specifications and also those on-site commissioning officer are simply lazy and failed to carry out their duty.

Hi mjlorton; I watched a lot of your vids, very nice and very interesting! Im an electrician in the Netherlands and I work around Energy distribution systems Cat III and Cat IV. Lately Im am looking for an affordable Insulation meter wich can measure with 1000V and is accurate with its measurements. I dont have money to get me a Fluke 1503 or 1507 ,so Im looking for something close to the same kind of performance but for less money. For instance , is the UT505a or UT505b of for the same matter a UT 513 any good? the 513 I can get as second-hand but is like new Can you advice a good insulation meter for around E200-E300 ? thx in advance!! Cheers! Martin

Great explanation. I was not aware of this device. I have a question, does this meter produce high voltage? Can anyone answer me, please?
@shannonsloan72465 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does generate DC voltage. This voltage can be harmful if a person comes in contact. However, because there is very low current most times you will just feeling nasty little bite.

How much more effective would be made the teaching point regardigng safety if he removed the gold ring on his finger & wore safety glasses and gloves when demonstrating (even though he runs simulated tests). Seeing good practice reinforces good practice.
