Great video, love your style - both your delivery in front of the camera and your wedding day photos. I also really appreciated that you highlight you use the best version of a lens because of where you're at personally but also bring forward a budget friendly version for those coming up

Awesome video bro.. For me: 85mm & 35mmm for weddings with my 2nd shooter preferably on a 50mm. 24-70 and 70-200 if I’m single shooting a wedding.
@MackJulion Жыл бұрын
Thanks bro. I think I may have to look into a 35mm because that 35 & 85 combo is so good. I typically be on the 24-70 & 85. Definitely 24-70 and 70-200 if I’m single shooting a wedding as well.
@brianpark2564 Жыл бұрын
solid setup, but i'd prob add a 135mm for that 2nd shooter for a tele option and bc the bokeh is so good

Thanks, some good kit. I have all those lenses. I'm a general shooter now, trying to also up my videography game. I once used a pair of Profoto flash heads with a small power pack. Too expensive, heavy etc so sold and now use several Godox ad200s and an ad100 plus the hot shoe model (can't remember model no). Must investigate getting decent powerful constant lights for video use. Have several small LED lights which are useful with my FX3 - good in pretty low light. But whenever I can I really prefer fast primes. Can be slow to use and change, but again in low light f1.4 or f1.8 is great with a FX3 where you can push the ISO (dual base ISO) to good effect. For photography I mostly shoot my a7iv (FX3 res too low IMO - no real crop options in post). Trying to decide if my next camera should be an a1 (new firmware with focus breathing comp long overdue) or an a7rV (much to like as is and cheaper than a1). But I like shooting sports too and miss my old a9 sold when I first almost bought an a1. My main outtake is to take another look at the Stella light - looks like high output for size. Maybe good bounced off a wall or reflector, Brolly or through a Manfrotto halo?

I am doing weddings with two cameras and mainly 35 1.4 + 85 1.4 for 10 years. of course, i sometimes bring more stuff depending on the job and sometimes use a 20 1.4 for wider shots or to be directly inside whats happening (for example on the dancefloor) or a 135 2.0 for bokehlicious candid portraits, and there is always the 24-70 as a backup in case one lens or camera gives out...but the 35+85 combo is just perfect for me. wouldnt really "need" to bring something else for the whole day. also i normally dont carry a flash anymore since the low light capabilities of modern full frame cams have gotten so good (and the autofocus also still works without assist light).

Top work man! My current lens line-up for weddings is the 20mm G, 35mm 1.4 GM, 50mm 1.2 GM, 85mm Sigma DG DN Sony 90mm Macro, and 135mm 1.8 GM! I'm always so tempted to ditch them for the 'Holy Trinity' but some of the venues I shoot are so damn dark I get cold feet on only having 2.8!

The 24-70mm f2.8 and 85mm f1.4 is an underrated wedding combo, you get versatility and bokeh. Are you planning to upgrade to the 16-35mm GM2 or are you happy to stick with the PZ?

My “holy trinity” is the sigma 16-28 2.8 contemporary and the tamron 35-150 2-2.8. Then I have the 35 1.4 gm, zeiss 55 1.8, Sony 85 1.8. Then the 200-600 as back up (it’s my wildlife lens but I could see it being used for weddings if needed).

I agree with your thoughts about the A1. I dont care about the mass majority.. the A1 is great for doing everything, in one, and that saves buying something like an FX3 for video, a A9 for sports as it covers it... However, the cost.. INSANE....but Canon is no cheaper when you combine lenses and gear... it all costs the same in the end.

Thanks For Sharing Mack: Here is my 2 Cents, yeah i stayed. Here we go... (1). Card Holder is Cool. (2). A1 is very cool as well - wish it updated with focus comp but looks like Sony won't be doing it. (3). A7R that cam is for still not so much video so in my view I take the A1 over A7R but the AI on A7R is next level. A7Siii (best for pure video i would say) (4). 16-35mm heard it was great I do like f/2.8 24 - 70mm (II) will probably get that one just to make life a bit more simple with travel (You mentioned F/1.8 is that for real or did you mean 1.8?). I have ordered the 70-200 F/2.8 (II) I prefer PRIMES over zoom though, like what you said though, makes sense. (5). I use the 50 F/1.2 GM - nice depth of field Will order the 50 F1.4 GM for the size. Big is alright but not always. Like the Sigma 85 F/1.4 DG DN Art since Sony 85 F/1.4 GM is a bit long in the tooth now. What do you think Mack? Your lights are cool, will look into them, thanks! The Omni 20+ 20000mah Laptop Power Bank, very cool indeed! You look GQ Smooth with your straps Holmes. Very Nice Review!

I like my lenses to all have the same 'on lens' control buttons and rings. I sometimes rely on muscle memory and when I reach for a button that isn't there, it's frustrating and slows me down. So all GM for me because that's what I'm used to and I like fast lenses.

I'm a reporter for a news agency (all do I do a wedding here and there), and usually I'm forced to take a holly trinity of lenses. Now add a laptop and peripheral stuff to that equation, and drag that all around the city EVERY WORKING DAY, and after few decades, you'll end up like me, with the broken back. These days, whenever I can, I'll rather swap my 17-40 zoom with 18 or 20mm prime, and 70-200 mm will remain home and his place will be filled with 135mm prime. Or I'll leave my mid zoom at home. Either way, you still shave some weight. Course I rarely have the opportunity to leave my laptop at home. There you go...

Something tells me that you think if you buy the best gear it will make you a better photographer. What a waste of money. I can get the same images for 1/3 of the price you paid. Just because something costs more, it does not always mean it is better. Sometimes it is true but not always.
