Just about, but that area has really deep soil that will hold moisture. That said, the old boy running that operation is wasting his time baling up all that wheat straw because I can guarantee he is not making any money on it. All he is doing is exporting his nutrients and organic matter out of his fields, nutrients he will have to pay his fertilizer man for next season. Organic matter also increases the ability of the soil to hold moisture and when you only get 21 inches a year you need all of the organic matter you can get. He would be money ahead to put the belts back on his straw chopper and sell the hay baler!
