Honestly the only way I would ever be able to tolerate a VW is with something other than a tractor engines they put in them under the hood. With the sole exception of being the VR6. Honda makes the best 4 cylinders on the planet though. Good choice.

My dream build is this exact thing, a k20 in an 83 golf/rabbit gti but around me the Mk1 Golf's have the Rabbit badge. Anyway man, love the build, loving the East meets West idea, and I hope you enjoyed building it :D Who knows, maybe I'll post a slide video of my build when I get around to doing one. I took some measurements and got some hybrid Honda/VW driveshafts made up. Any specialist company should talk you through the few measurements they need to make them accurately.

They are hybrid driveshafts I had made. There are a few measurements you have to take. Your propshaft/driveshaft shop will guide you through. Very simple.

There is no 4 VW N/A cylinder than can come close to Honda's K20 or F20

All VW engines derived from EA827/EA113/EA211 Block are capable for very High Rpms! They are designed as Closed deck engine blocks, most of them are made from grey cast iron, 2.0 TFSI from CG25 steel. they are square and undersquare engines with longer stroke which is better for Torque and power range through rpm. In contrary Honda make engines in Open Deck (Dry Sleeves) architecture with short stroke ratio and from Aluminum. Aluminum engines are more noisey and are weaker prone for cracking for Extreme Turbo setups. Also if you Overheat Aluminum engine, there are big chanches they you will warp Aluminum block. For any serious Turbo tuning on Honda there as need to invest big pile of money for parts and machining , Block reinforcements and wet sleeves etc. Short stroke ratio oversquare have its own advantages and offer ability to reach high rpms. But disadvantages is that Engine suffers from Low Torque and practically engine is dead in Low rpm range. You need to Reinforce Honda Aluminum "Open Deck block" , in contrary you don;t need to do that on VW Steel "Closed deck block". There is lot of machining to do that job on hondas. also you need to change all internals, because of Compression, HOnda engines are built as light as possible and as Atmospherical engines, in contrary VW engines are built as Turbo powerplants, with strong internals! Guy from Germany called Boba motoring, tuned his Golf to 900 whp with stock Crankshaft and stock Audi S2 pistons. etc.

Plenty of good engines to choose from. Why go with a k20? It's the opposite of what the golf is all about. I personally would have never done that combo. Granted the k20 is a gem, but throwing it I a golf just doesn't make sense. Get yourself a mk1 civic and make the same build, now you have something that is an icon, unique, and "clean". Somthing original that every car enthusiast will love.

+Jeremiah Rudnitsky a Mk1 Civic wouldn't be a Mk1 Golf with a Honda K20 engine in winding up VW purists though. There isn't a single 2.0L 16v engine in the VAG range that comes anywhere near to that out of the box spec of the k20. The car is built by me and for me!!
