I was issued this rifle at 19 just before deployment. Living my best Modern Warfare life but for real(talked to my friends like I was in a modern warfare lobby when I got it too). Loved that rifle. Accurate....ish....when you baby it. Perfect for the distances we were engaging at in Afghanistan at the time. The biggest issue I had with it was the weight. Especially with how front heavy it was with the bipod and Peq 15. My nether region suffered massively that deployment walking around with that thing. When the 110 came to the line units... just as heavy it seemed but the weight was distributed more evenly. Still though....the EBR.... absolute legend.

@@oConshien From what I’ve researched, the M21 is a semi-automatic only designated marksman rifle, with its main appearance distinction being its wood/polymer shell. The M14 is an enhanced battle rifle (the gap between an assault rifle and an anti-material rifle in terms of its cartridge) that has select fire capabilities and later renditions being equipped with RIS rails to mount PEQs, Bipods, fore grips, and optics. I think another specific difference is that the M21 is more universal (MW1 was specifically the SAS) and the M14 is American specific (The armed forces used it as a DMR in the early 2000s, when the game came out, since it was used with both 141 under NATO and the 75th)

The story of the first batch of EBRs is hilarious. They had guys come in and do a complete course to show the shooters how to maintain them. After the week or two of all that the rifles were turned into the armorers, who proceeded to completely disassemble every single gun and throw all the individual parts into bins, then reassembled the rifles, turning them from sub-MOA rifles to 4 MOA rifles.

@@MrBioniclefan1 Yes indeed, good ammo and marksmanship help a lot when attempting to extract the most from a platform. I use handloads with match bullets that equal or exceed factory match ammo. I also have NRA Master classifications in Highpower, Midrange, and Long Range. All that means though is that I’m one less variable to get a little bit more of a proper appraisal about how a gun shoots during testing, nothing more. The gun still needs to be a well assembled piece of engineering.

I was an LRM in the 101st back in 2010-2013 (2nd to last class before army got rid of LRM program). Issued and carried the m14EBR with mk4 3.5x-10x, and even a PVS22 in paktika province Afghanistan OEF10-11. Through all the spills taken, walking endless clicks through those mountains, and all the gunfights endured. For me it definitely shot the quoted 1-2moa with M118LR I was issued both stateside and in country. Still got my DOPE book from active and the recorded shots on the COP that I was on. Looking back it, It was reliable with m118LR, and it was consistent enough for combat accuracy. I have a Mk14 EBR made from converting a 1980's era Springfield M1A, much like the way many wartime conversions were done. What makes the Mk14 EBR glass bedding equivalent is that the operating rod guide is replaced by one that ties into the SAGE chassis using three sizable bolts. It's one hunk of metal when all is said and done. The final accurizing is done by properly tensioning a set screw in the very front of the chassis. This dwells out the last of the barrel's tip vibrations during firing effectively making the thin barrel act like a much thicker one, same as the way a barrel tuner does. The bonus to this experience is that I figured this out by exchanging several phone calls with Clint McKee at Fulton Armory back when he was alive. They were fun phone calls as we were both trying to figure out how close the aluminum chassis could get to a fully accurized, skim bedded, match gun. Combining it with carefully loaded 175gr match ammo, I was able to get the gun to shoot down to 0.75 moa shooting NRA Midrange Prone matches. That's more than plenty good. The rifle continues to hold accuracy today. I've seen people try putting M1A's into the SAGE chassis skipping replacing the op rod guide. These never perform well. You need to fully unitize the action into the chassis.

@@ExtremeUnction1988 it doesn’t make sense to me either. It completely defeats the value of the EBR upgrade to skip it. Might as well leave it in the original stock. This is a go all the way or don’t do it mod.

Nice video man! I enjoyed this one. My first ever rifle was an M1 Garand, so the m14 derivatives always appealed to me in the modern CoD games as a kid and teenager. Even as I can now recognize the prominent flaws in Uncle Sam's implementation of the m14 throughout the years, it still has a swag factor in photos and the like. To be fair though, it was a traditional M21 you started out with in All Ghillied Up, not the EBR. But hell, nobody can complain about the CoD4 music you used anyway! Gave me the feelz.

It will pick up the sounds of the internal movements and the grinding, scraping, pinging, venting and clicking of the operating mechanism will bring me to (and hopefully over) the edge I mean will improve your production quality. Tape a mic to that dirtbike too just make sure the mics have the right internal - dynamic microphone probably. Or a condensor mic if you've got the stones. Rode Microphone Company will be interested.

Accuracy is hit or miss depending on many factors, but always at least minute of man and if you know your particular rifle you can really make it a tack driver. I think this personalization and individual character of each particular rifle is why so many who have one or used one love it because it bonds you to it and you really feel like you make it your own. Like forging your own sword or something primal like that. As for reliability and durability they are top tier. Yeah if you cake mud on the op rod and fire it, it will jam up like in range tv demoed, but guess what so will pretty much anything other than an AR. However if you are in a much more realistic scenario and get a little dirt or sand in the magazine and it ingresses into the action, it will keep chugging along fine whereas many ARs especially older variants (pre fancy smancy coated bolts and parts) will choke right up. It is an older design, and not as optimal as others, but it is still excellent. That all being said the AR design is simply genius and Eugene Stoner is a national hero along with Sam Colt and John Moses Browning.

I love the idea of the EBR. In places like Afghanistan where engagement distances could exceed the effective range of an M4, having just one guy with a 7.62 rifle with consistent rifle quals would allow him to reach out and touch that enemy while others get closer. And it doesn’t weigh far too much compared to an M16, nor is it much longer, so it can still do urban stuff.

The M14 was adopted by the US Military the same year I was born. Also, the same year the HD Sportster was introduced, and of course, the 57 Chevy. I'm not sure if I should feel really old, or honored. Yeah, that's it. Great things came out in 1957 so I'll just roll with being one of them. I did learn to drive 3 on the tree on a 57 Chevy. My Mom taught me. From an era when men were men and women were badass without being butch.

😂 The ultimate sacrilege is probably my Poly-Tech M-14s in a Sage stock in nsw gray. It is just unusually accurate, but shouldn't even run according to the "experts".

They were the only M14 platforms with a forged receiver, IIRC. I have one that was worked over by Ron Smith. Receiver was hardened and milled out / matched for GI parts. Still my favorite rifle to this day.
