I got issued an M-14 right before we deployed to Iraq again in 2005, 1 shooter per tank section was issued one. They were delivered to our Orderly Room in wooden boxes, packed in hay and slathered in gear grease. Wooden stock and all. She was heavy as fuck, hit hard, shot straight, and was one of the most accurate rifles I have shot right out of the packing materials. Great video here, lots of good memories!

I was issued this rifle at 19 just before deployment. Living my best Modern Warfare life but for real(talked to my friends like I was in a modern warfare lobby when I got it too). Loved that rifle. Accurate....ish....when you baby it. Perfect for the distances we were engaging at in Afghanistan at the time. The biggest issue I had with it was the weight. Especially with how front heavy it was with the bipod and Peq 15. My nether region suffered massively that deployment walking around with that thing. When the 110 came to the line units... just as heavy it seemed but the weight was distributed more evenly. Still though....the EBR.... absolute legend.

I liked how small the Mk14 was; definitely heavy and unbalanced, but it was super short, which (IMO) made it a great DMR for places like Iraq. Our snipers got the 110 before we got our hands on the Mk14, and they loathed the thing. 110s got left in arms rooms at post in favor of the M24A2.

@@oConshien From what I’ve researched, the M21 is a semi-automatic only designated marksman rifle, with its main appearance distinction being its wood/polymer shell. The M14 is an enhanced battle rifle (the gap between an assault rifle and an anti-material rifle in terms of its cartridge) that has select fire capabilities and later renditions being equipped with RIS rails to mount PEQs, Bipods, fore grips, and optics. I think another specific difference is that the M21 is more universal (MW1 was specifically the SAS) and the M14 is American specific (The armed forces used it as a DMR in the early 2000s, when the game came out, since it was used with both 141 under NATO and the 75th)

I'm triggered by this comment! I think the M14, in it's original form, with the beautiful walnut stock is one of the most elegant good looking rifles ever made. The Garand also and the Enfield are gorgeous. It was the wrong weapon for the jungle and certainly has major drawbacks. Without doubt the rifle has been far surpassed by more modern designs but to me it occupies a hallowed place in my systems and is still very effective.

I have a Mk14 EBR made from converting a 1980's era Springfield M1A, much like the way many wartime conversions were done. What makes the Mk14 EBR glass bedding equivalent is that the operating rod guide is replaced by one that ties into the SAGE chassis using three sizable bolts. It's one hunk of metal when all is said and done. The final accurizing is done by properly tensioning a set screw in the very front of the chassis. This dwells out the last of the barrel's tip vibrations during firing effectively making the thin barrel act like a much thicker one, same as the way a barrel tuner does. The bonus to this experience is that I figured this out by exchanging several phone calls with Clint McKee at Fulton Armory back when he was alive. They were fun phone calls as we were both trying to figure out how close the aluminum chassis could get to a fully accurized, skim bedded, match gun. Combining it with carefully loaded 175gr match ammo, I was able to get the gun to shoot down to 0.75 moa shooting NRA Midrange Prone matches. That's more than plenty good. The rifle continues to hold accuracy today. I've seen people try putting M1A's into the SAGE chassis skipping replacing the op rod guide. These never perform well. You need to fully unitize the action into the chassis.

seriously? How could you even do it without replacing the oprod guide? The whole front end beyond the receiver wouldn't be secured to anything!
@CMPInstructor
@CMPInstructor Жыл бұрын
@@ExtremeUnction1988 it doesn’t make sense to me either. It completely defeats the value of the EBR upgrade to skip it. Might as well leave it in the original stock. But people do it because they don’t cherish the idea of driving that pin out of the op-rod guide and altering their gun so it cannot go in the factory stock anymore. This is a go all the way or don’t do it mod.

Mine shoots 1-1.25 . Except I use 168s. This whole "tighten the wrong screw and it goes from a 1 moa gun to a 4 moa gun" could be easily fixed by knowing just a little about the rifle. Its not as complicated as people make it out to be. M14s like to be locked down tight. In a chassis and in your grip. Done. Its a great rifle.

Tape a mic to that dirtbike too just make sure the mics have the right internal - dynamic microphone probably. Or a condensor mic if you've got the stones. Rode Microphone Company will be interested.

Great review. Carried one for several years up to 2015. Took it in three SOC theaters. Liked it so much I bought a SOCOM 16 separately, then installed in a SAGE M1GALCS/CV (buffer tube) chassis. Also with a Smith Enterprises 16" competition barrel installed and several other internal upgrades. Shoots as accurate or better as other 16" 308's as promised by SEI. Sitting Installed and best scope rail to have is the Larue LT608 cantilever if you can still find one. As others have mentioned, main downsides are the cost and weight (to current lightweight .308 ARs), and issues with running suppressed. Mine comes in at just under 18lbs loaded.

Even as I can now recognize the prominent flaws in Uncle Sam's implementation of the m14 throughout the years, it still has a swag factor in photos and the like. I kept it classy (and heavy) with the wood stock and added a Bradley cheek riser. While it is outclassed by more modern .308 semiautos, like my DD5V3, it’s still one of my favorites to take to the range. I just took it to the range last weekend and was getting consistent 2.5” 100yrd groups with M80 ball and I’m not a great precision shooter.

Accuracy is hit or miss depending on many factors, but always at least minute of man and if you know your particular rifle you can really make it a tack driver. I think this personalization and individual character of each particular rifle is why so many who have one or used one love it because it bonds you to it and you really feel like you make it your own. Like forging your own sword or something primal like that. As for reliability and durability they are top tier. Yeah if you cake mud on the op rod and fire it, it will jam up like in range tv demoed, but guess what so will pretty much anything other than an AR. However if you are in a much more realistic scenario and get a little dirt or sand in the magazine and it ingresses into the action, it will keep chugging along fine whereas many ARs especially older variants (pre fancy smancy coated bolts and parts) will choke right up. It is an older design, and not as optimal as others, but it is still excellent. That all being said the AR design is simply genius and Eugene Stoner is a national hero along with Sam Colt and John Moses Browning.

@@ReanuKeevesAus its a competition the u.s. do I think every year(havent looked too much into it) for civilians and military. The guys who trained us said for military to wear the tab they have to enter every year and be in the top 100. They also said it all iron sights shooting targets at extreme distances.

I like to think of the EBR like Elizabeth Hurley. Sure, it's not as young as it once was, and yeah, it's pretty high maintenance, but HOT DAMN it looks GOOD.

Love this kit. No need for full auto if you’re accurate. Also brought me back to the cod4 lobby

Might be weird to ask but the Italian cavalry carcano would be amazing to review! Alot if people have issues and questions over the point of aim! Would love to see it!

I'm still there man. In Ukraine, In Pripyat, with my ghillie, and my M14. I see Price when I close my eyes. Those that played that mission never really "left" Pripyat. Part of us stayed there.
