@endorsedbryce2 жыл бұрын
HI, idiot weeb here! Would this not be a perfect DMR/battle rifle role if equipped with a smart scope system?
@prestonbecker87842 жыл бұрын
@@endorsedbryce Assuming that is a serious question, no. 50 BMG is overkill for humans, you can't carry as much ammo as .308 or the new Furry round, and I doubt that this system is accurate enough to serve as a DMR. Having the entire barrel move backwards does not lend itself to excessive accuracy. As Ian over at Forgotten Weapons has pointed out, even the short recoil Barret 50 probably has a 2-3 MoA accuracy. From what I remember, this version of the rifle was intended for an anti-material roll in urban combat. When you have a lightly armored personal carrier only 150 yards from you, 2-3 MoA accuracy is perfectly acceptable, especially if in exchange you get a "compact" 50 cal rifle. In contrast, DMR's are for engaging enemies beyond 200-300 yards, where accuracy and ammo capacity is much more important than weapon compactness or bullet size (i.e. a 30 caliber bullet is more than large enough to incapacitate a human sized target, don't need a 50 caliber bullet)
@mufasachainbreaker77572 жыл бұрын
@@endorsedbryce Honestly, it would be a terrible DMR. Not because it could hit or kill a target. It is just that antiMaterial rifles and DMR/Battle rifle roles are different. 6.8/308 tend to make better battle rifle rounds. This again isn't because it doesn't have enough impact. It is more like why an artillery piece isn't a good DMR. It fires slowly, isn't maneuverable, and the like. You want something as light and low recoil as possible while also having around 600 - 800 meters effective range and capability to penetrate body armor, with a 20+ round magazine for battle rifles. DMRs like a little longer range and/or a little extra precision/accuracy. In firepower and accuracy the .50 is fine. It is just low on ammunition, the ammunition is too heavy, the gun too bulky and heavy...
@braxton10982 жыл бұрын
The gun seems to have reliability issues…so it’s not really the best one. I’d pick the Barrett M95 or M99 for the proper heavy long rifle and anti materiel rifle in the bullpup form. This rifle is a gimmick. Still cool, though.

Yeah somehow the idea of having a few IFVs just in case you need to prevent the loss of life just seemed stupid to management. One 25mm round anywhere except maybe the tail would pulp a threat. They could have mounted those microwave crowd control LTL weapons all along the walls to stop them. Nope, just send everyone out on foot useless taser rounds (guess they didn't bother testing their effectiveness) even a Humvee with a mounted .50 would shred any dino; however, the simplest dino deterrent would be to build a large fucking moat with a draw bridge around the entire enclosure, but that's impossible I guess.

@@fuzzylogic394 I get that, but there comes a point when the asset is endangering visitors... I'm talking about Jurassic World since it was up and running for visitors. In all the previous ones though, they still mostly carried weapons you couldn't hunt a bear with. In JW, They decided to kill it by bolting a minigun to a helo and then foolishly letting an inexperienced pilot fly it; however, if they didn't want to use lethal force, they still could have had armored personnel carriers mounted with giant ass tasers, stun darts... anything that couldn't easily be shredded by a death dino. Sending people out on foot might as well be criminal negligence. Also, how many people have to die before the settlements outweigh the cost of the dinosaur? Not only that, but one visitor gets eaten and your whole park is getting shut down... there goes your investment lol and if it doesn't, you're going to lose a shit ton of visitors because you've just failed at the very thing they're terrified of--making a new dino is going to cost a whole lot less especially after the R&D has been done. Would it be outrageous to build safety rooms that go underground in case of an emergency? I sure as fuck am not going to dino island if their emergency protocol for an asset out of containment is foot mobiles armed with dinky little tasers that don't do shit lol. What kinda idiot would take they job? Did anyone ask if their taser worked? They lit that thing up and it was like "stop that lol"

Amusingly enough the Gepárd family has almost as long of a history as the Barret, first made in the 80s. Even the Lynx model is over a decade old and it shows. The rifle is kept being improved upon, one thing at the time. The British SAS chose the rifle for this and because it's easier to haul in airborne operations than other anti-material rifles. Since they are active in Iraq and Syria I also guess the ability to convert them into the Russian 12.7 x 108 mm caliber can also come in handy. Also accuracy is a big can of worms. It's hard to determine that objectively unless you have a huge sample size. Effective range is even worse. Effective for what? 800 yards may look short but that's the range for a certain requirement which is not exactly the same as for the Barret or other rifles. The manufacturer claims 1.0 MOA accuracy at 1000 meters so you'd think the rifle is good for that distance, as well. Then we can go about the fact that anti-materiel rifles are meant not exactly against human targets as priority. So ultimately accuracy debates, barring very egregious differences, are pointless for a military weapon like this. That being said a lot can be attributed to the rifle's success in civilian sales. The rifle would've been probably dumped years ago if not for the civilian market. So I wonder, when will Sero follow the trends and introduces a variant in .416 Barret or one of the CheyTac calibers? These calibers are still beefy enough to benefit from the system and the rifle could be perhaps light enough that shouldering it would be more sensible than how it currently is. Only time can tell...
