Ben visited BD Performance with gear selection issues. We booked him in for a Replacement Used Gearbox after explaining the huge costs usually associated with fully reconditioning a gearbox for the Mk2 Focus.

When Ben turned up with his vehicle on the back of a trailer - we knew instantly that his issues were significant. Although Ben was able to reverse the car off the trailer, after selecting a forwards gear first, we struggled to get the vehicle on the ramp 😟
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
After disassembly we could find no significant wear on any internal components - what we did find was a discontinued Race Clutch setup. We spoke to the Original Designer of the kit who elaborated on some of the issues that he had encountered after finding a discrepancy in the Ford bell-housing fitted to the Mk2 range. Just 1.5mm, with a concentric slave travel of only 6mm, was enough to cause correlating issues in many vehicles over the years.

With the customers consent we replaced the existing clutch kit with the 𝗡𝗘𝗪 version of the 𝗥𝗧𝗦 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲, 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝘁 🏆

Funny you should make a video on this.. i have same issue in my st. I always have to select 3rd or 4th to get reverse.. its only an RS clutch too

Yours more likely sounds to be a box issue alone. In this instance, in the video, there was other issues contributing. Thanks for the comment and hope yours is solved soon 💙

@@BDPerformanceWrexham thanks.. we have just changed engine over for a dreamscience fully forged engine.. only im not sure on how many litres of gearbox oil should go back in box.. google says 6.9quarts! Thats 6.5litres uk. Wont go into gear when engines running . Started it sunday morning but i work 7-4pm so hopefully top this oil up and can get on with mods.. currently stage 2 but some say its stage 3. Love the channel watch every upload lol based in west yorkshire

What information would you like please? We would recommend having the transmission inspected or at least taking the vehicle to a specialist before spending unnecessarily. If we are close; we are happy to help!

I've got a clunky noise when I first set off and if I down shift to 2nd from 3rd .rs clutch fitted a while ago.st225.do they all clunk when releasing the clutch at low speed?

Very interesting, should all new clutches go through a similar bedding in procedure or is it specifically for this RTS one? Have a rattle/tapping from my gearbox when in neutral but fine when clutch is pressed and when driving. Didn’t bed in my RS clutch as wasn’t told to.

Essentially yes there is a bedding in procedure for every clutch to get a longer life 🙌

When taking the gearbox off do you drop the subframe for more space or do you manage to wiggle it out with the subframe in place. Thanks

Great question - we leave it in place. Always have but most tuners remove. It doesn’t take a lot more effort to leave in place when you know how. We do the same with the Mk3 too. Thanks for taking the time to comment 💙

Depends on how you look at it... No gearbox is light however this certainly isn’t the heaviest box we’ve had to remove. Happy New Year 🥳

Yes it has the Volvo M66 gearbox same as the Focus ST/RS BUT I believe it has altered ratios in the final drive for 'tax' band reasons.

Gary Mugford both have their appropriate best use. In this instance the customer needed an updated clutch for his setup. For most ST’s - the Genuine or LUK RS Clutch kit is sufficient. Hope that this helps and thanks for the comment 💙

Hi, I replaced my st clutch last year. I chose Luk Rs one with new luk rs flywheel. The pedal was hard for about 30 days but then soften. Last winter I have a problem with shifting reverse in garage. So I try to change gearbox oil but it did not help. Now the clutch has about 8000 miles and I can not put it in reverse when I am parking sometimes. It seems like there is no shift path. then after this Shifting first gear is also hard. I must turn engine off... then i can shift everything without engine. when start engine again- problem is gone fór another 20 kilometers. I also noticed there is problém with 4 gear. in high rpm. I have to push clutch pedal longer for shifting 4 gear. Could you help me if it is the same problem? I am from the czech republic 😅i would visit bd performance but it is too far for me 😩
