A 58 plate 2l Diesel Adventura is the car I’ve had the longest. Big Blue we called it. She was supremely sensible. Holidays, takings fridge freezers, moving two kids to Uni and back, it took it all in its stride. Never found the clutch heavy, not like my MG ZT with its commercial gearbox.. Really was a Tonka Toy.,.. Great video

My next door neighbour owned an 08 Aventura and used it as a work vehicle on the farm, owned it for over 10 years and it was well used. He bought another later Mk2 and the old one was bought for 500 quid. Cleaned it up, subframe bushes, wheel bearings and a few bits of trim and it passed the MOT no issue. Good to drive and feels big on the road. Daughters boyfriend owns it, he uses it on farm now and a work vehicle so its back where it started.. Videos on my channel...

Without noticing they have disappeared from the roads over here. I remember someone in my village had a mk1 with the spot lights in the roofrails. For me it looks very Volvo like with it's boxy stationcar like design. Especially the backside with the high taillights. Great review Matt! Also like the new intro.

My Dad bought a MK1 X-Trail brand new. I took him to the dealership at midnight on the 1st September 2002 in my Porsche 944 (was my daily...). I didn't like the X-Trail all the time he had it. He drove it up to 150K miles then I bought it as I needed a cheap car and the dealer had offered him pennies for it. I had it 7 years and added another 40K miles. One of the best cars I have ever had, despite not liking big cars my wife liked it too, even the mother in law liked it. Never needed anything more than an oil change and 1 ball joint.

I've always wondered why the higher-powered 173bhp version of the 2.0-litre diesel in the Mk2 X-Trail wasn't offered with the automatic gearbox and was manual only, unlike the lower-powered 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel and even the 2.5 petrol, both of which could be had with the automatic.

My favorite of this generation Nissan X-Trail is the X-Trail GT, a JDM icon only made for 3 years. 280 horsepower from 2L turbocharged Nissan 4 cylinder, what is not to like about it? Maybe the 4-speed automatic transmission. @9:06 The top of the range is the GT, never sold anywhere near Western shores.

Ah I miss mine. At the time I lived in the Scottish highlands and with the right tyres nothing stopped it. They are roomy, comfy ( rear passenger room was a let down) but boot massive which my two black labs loved. Pulling power was really impressive - it pulled a John Deere 3350 (a Big tractor) out of a tight place easily. Rise on front lights to show front corners. Have we progressed? I don’t think so.

Come to the North Yorks Moors. The rural community value and still run these - the Chelsea tractor brigade who run a £70k+ Rangey to look gentrified have no idea - nobody here will run a car like that and take the depreciation. Depending on needs its cheapo X-Trails, Jimnys, various Subaru estates and even Duster 4x4'S that are valued 'coz they do a job for a decent price

For a very brief period I owned a Mark 1 X-Trail. I made the mistake of buying the 2.0 litre petrol version, which was very juicy and therefore expensive to run. The seats were extremely hard. I would hope that in this Mark 2 version, the seats are softer.

Bought the wife a 2008 sport in 2016 but she thought it might be a bit big but we agreed that if that was the case then i would take it over and put a bar on for towing my trailers. Im still waiting for her to decide. Meanwhile my mk5 transit has rusted away so on the look for a for a suitable X trail for myself. The wife has offered to swap if i get one with a leather interior. Only downside is the Dpf needs a good blow through occasionally.

Was a sensible choice in its day….i do wonder how many potential Freelander buyers turned away at the last min and bought the Nissan. I still think that interior is good and lots of tech for its time. Careful tho…our neighbour had one, with a diesel engine. And it went and went and went, until it didn’t. I think the diesel bits aka DPF, Dual mass flywheel, EGR all needed so much work, it would have cost almost as much as the vehicle was worth….so went for scrap. My advice, yes, get one…but a petrol one. And put up with paying higher fuel costs.

Thanks Matt, nice video. Less passion though unfortunately. What are the engine options? 2.0 diesel is the best. You describe comoromised cornering due to tyres. Can't be, it is fitted with low profiles, learn that to have the advantage of easy ingress and a better view out with comfortable ground clearance, a car will not handle like a Mazda MX 5.

The t31 X-trail is ok with a manaul, but it was an early foray into CVT for the auto & they fail at 160,000k on average. That's why I bought a 2007 auto 2.5 petrol here in Australia 7 years ago & it still drives like a young 'un. We recently bought a new 2024 top line auto version with the same engine as we don't do many km's & want to keep it for many years. Bottom line is; any manual Xtrail is fine, the auto's from 2002-2005 are to be avoided, the 2005-2007 are strong, T31 series auto's are awful, but they slowly got stronger during the T32 lifespan & should now be bulletproof.

Not rugged or reliable, and not actually a Nissan at all despite the badges. Uses a Renault platform, Renault gearbox, Renault diesel engine and mucho unreliable electronic gubbins from France also. Even the Nissan designed petrols are known for timing chain problems. The CVT auto is known in the trade for being made from cheese also. Take it from an ex car salesman of many years experience, these are not to be bought expecting Japanese reliability.

In the 80’s and into the late 90’s you are right, but from the Mk II Laguna and Megane onwards they’re rubbish. Exception is granted to the 1.5dci, which can be robust if looked after. They tend to lunch on timing belts prematurely and will suffer injector issues as they age plus the usual DPF related nonsense where fitted. I wouldn’t recommend a cheap diesel SUV to anyone shopping on a budget, never mind one fitted with the 2.0 Renault DCi motor. Ask anyone in the trade for their opinions on it and you’ll hear a depressing amount of costly woe.
@asloan1976
@asloan1976 13 күн бұрын
With respect Matt, I like what you do and watch every video, but these are no more reliable than the problem prone Renaults they’re based on. I spent years flogging used cars and we had so much trouble with these that we stopped stocking them. Don’t get them mixed up with the genuine Japanese Nissan's of the past, these are Renaults in a frock, and not something I as a long served car salesman and buyer would recommend to anyone. The Mk I was much more robust, certainly with the petrol 2.0/2.5, though the 2.2 diesel was bad for timing chain failures.
