The problems with the Genesis MK2 port show up when you play the MK3 ports. Then you will notice how poor they are. I'm not saying "could have been better than the SNES version" (which is nonsensical - the SNES is more powerful) but it could have been much better. MK2 Unlimited shows that.

It was an afternoon on a summer day watching some guy play this on a cabinet at my local grocery store as my mom was in line checking out. I still remember replaying the fatality in my head for the rest of the day. Something about the way the pit looked as you came closer and closer to hitting the bottom that has kept it engrained in my head. Though at the time could have sworn the fall took longer.

I can't believe people are saying on the comments that the SNES version was the closest. The 32x port was almost arcade perfect, with just a few downgrades to the sound quality. The graphical glitch of liu kang being splattered before he hits the ground in this video is the result of BAD EMULATOR. In the real hardware that doesnt happen. Same goes for the sega saturn. The color pallete on the SNES is much poorer than any other port, the sound had a lot of missing sound effects. In this particula fatality, there is no vertical scroll showing the pillars of the bridge... Sega saturn>32x>ps1.

DOS: The speed of the "falling down" sequence is way too accelerated. Amiga: "Now Loading version". As with SFA2 in SNES, it's an amazing feat that the Amiga was capable of handle this game. SNES: Very nice, but as already pointed out, an actual falling scream would've things a lot better. GEN/MD: Completety lacks the scream altogether, and is a little accelerated. 32X: Has the scream, but the floor zooming at the "crunch" looks weird.

the 32X has a huge graphic glitch in it, the cracks in the ground appear as part of his falling sprite at least a full second before he hits the ground. so the ground is falling onto the ground for a full second. I personally think the genesis was best visually, except some combination of the blood splatter from the arcade and genesis should have been used (different ground-patterns for some of them). Also the Amiga and PSX blood is glitched apart in the wrong places.

The PSX is the worst with its loading notice and that they use a small piece of the ground. Its also bad because the ground tiling seperates. @silenceofthehills I believe the glitch in the 32X version of the Fatality is because the 32X MK2 used the same amount of animation frames as the Genesis MK2. The scaling of the Pit ground was redone for 32X MK2 to make it closer to the coin-op, while the sprite and blood were still timed to fall with the (faster, choppier) Genesis Pit II Fatality. Either that or Probe were some lazy bastards who rushed out the 32X port for Christmas '94.

I think I figured out why the 32X Pit 2 Fatality looks so sloppy! The 32X version of MKII recycles most of its animation frames from the Genesis version, with some added animation here and there. They re-did the Pit 2 Fatality to take advantage of the 32X's scaling capabilities, but they re-used the falling animations from the Genesis Fatality sequence (which scrolled slightly faster due to the software scaling). Hence the opponent exploding on the ground before the ground stops scaling.

AtariBorn We must have been watching a different KZbin video. Are you sure you're commenting on the right video?
@AtariBorn9 жыл бұрын
TightManlyPants I know I'm commenting on the right video. You're trying to tell me that the SNES version, with its 2 generic screams instead of the long yell, its stationary camera, that doesn't follow the victim down the fall and it's bone breaking/farting sound on impact, instead of the slam... is the most faithful version? The graphical glitch on the 32X and the sound screw ups on the PS1/Saturn versions make it obvious that these clips are from emulators, because they don't do that in actual hardware. I own the SNES, 32X & Saturn versions. You need to watch again. The first clip (Arcade) then the fourth clip (SNES) and then tell me how faithful it is. I'm comparing the actual games on real hardware, not how far along or accurate the emulators are.
