Mk4 Escort Update Cold Start Wash Before Storage

Here is an update of my Mk4 Ford Escort 1.3 recorded in April 2016. She is finally going into storage, away from the elements. I would just like to thank everyone that has watched my previous videos of this car and particularly those who have expressed positive comments, much appreciated.

The engine looks so tiny in that engine bay but at least you've got easy access to everything and easy to fix unlike todays cars.

I remember long ago I had a Ford Escort Mk4 in dark blue color. With the motor 1.3 petrol, 1987 model year . From the city of Saarlouis. It was a very good and reliable machine. The only what you need to follow this body. If not processing then begin to rust the wheel arches, sills, bottom of doors.

I can remember my Grandfathers Cousin had on of these in gray. She had it when it was only 6 months old when she bought it. Nearly drove it for 20 years but gave up driving 4 years ago. I used to take pitty on the car because she always took off in 2nd gear. Comming out of the church was up hill. Coming onto the main road was up hill and even coming out of her garage was up hill 😂. She blew the clutch coming out of the church and we were in a mk1 Cortina behind her. Funny enough there was no smoke. She was lucky we were there to drive her home 😯

I had an 88 e reg 1.3 popular, I miss my Escort, was in the same red, engine gave up & too much rust. Miss Eddie & lovely to see an Escort in such good condition

Good, reliable cars. I was brought up with these; along with a MK2 Fiesta, Mini Metro, Rover 213, 216, a Montego and a Maxi. My parents also had MK4 estate and a XR3. Bullet proof, cheap and easy to maintain - yes, even the Montego, Metro and Maxi! Much more interesting than the rubbish that's around nowadays.

Amazing under the hood how simple the components are (compared to more modern cars which have a lot more regulatory ***t) - a really cool piece of history!

Cheers! Yeah compared to modern cars this is back to basics! Nothing can really kill it off other than rust, anything goes wrong can just be replaced without having to worry about silly computers and sensors. Will do an update at some point :-)

in Brazil ford Escort had cht engine Ford 1600cc and 1000cc and there was a partnership between Ford and Volkswagen in Brazil in the 90s generating Autolatina, there would be Escort with Ford cht engines and ford Escort with engine Volkswagen AP 1800cc , and there were motors to alcohol or gasoline as fuel .

Cheers! Somehow my one survived being away from the elements for the first 20 years of its life! Shame about yours, as you say rust is an issue. There is some on mine now but I feel it adds to its character, I have done over 50,000 miles in it and used in all weathers. It's in and out of storage now and every time I drive it I really appreciate it, the little engine runs so well ! Love the car and hope to keep it forever, might even spend some £££'s on it in the future if the bodywork gets to bad, thanks for the comment :-)

Thanks for watching :-) Yes not to bad, I don't do many miles in it now and it stays in storage mostly. Recently had the MOT done, no problems just needed a new brake caliper as the old one kept sticking. Had service done, still running very well. Love this car will never sell it. Will do another update at some point, possibly when I move and can store this at home. Not sure if I should have the car restored someday, or would it be better left with patina and memories the car has built up in its lifetime. Perhaps I will ask when I do the next video.

What suspension is/was on this?

Still have this car, its in storage now. Apex shocks and springs all round lowered 30mm. Much improved handing obviously, very safe! I found the original suspension dangerous, no more under steer now. You lose a bit of ride comfort obviously but its been on the car for years and no problems.

It has Apex shocks and springs, 30mm lowered. Much safer than the standard suspension.

Don't know if you'll see this, but I'm looking to buy a MK4 estate to replace my runaround. With the exception of rust, what should I look out for? I've got my eye on a 1.4 - do you know if these engines are any good? Cheers.

Long as it has been looked after mate they're pretty basic so not much to go wrong. My brother had a 1.6 CVH, good engines for what they're, nothing too exciting. Just check cambelt i'd say and service history and you'll be fine !

Amazing machine. I grew up in one of these, they are tough as a tank but very smooth while driving. I am thinking about buying one in 2017, it is a 1.6 diesel and has done 300,000km, first owner, kept in a garage, no rust at all. Would you suggest it? Cheers

Thanks for comment. It was sold new by R Charlish in Bungay. Then sold again by same dealership to me in 2008 :-) The guy who delivered it sold it new and serviced the car all its life. Kept the original dealer plates and the sticker on window but its very faded now.

You should try a cold start with no choke :)
