So that's what my XR3i cabby is based on. I remember we had these as BT vans, always loved the small window behind the door.

I bought several if those ex Royal Mail escort vans in the early 90s because they were always around 3 years old with generally low mileage when they went to auction, often 50 vehicles at a time so prices were always quite reasonable. There was never a passenger seat in Royal Mail Escort vans so always had to head to the breakers yard for a matching set of seats. There was also a wooden bulk head behind drivers seat so if you find spare rivet nuts top and bottom, you know it previously had one. The paint code should confirm that it was originally Royal Mail Red. If the fuel filter housing failed then it would quickly go from poor starting to not starting at all due to air getting sucked in to the system (it happened now and then). Easily diagnosed by simply bypassing the fuel filter with a length of hose and if that was the problem, then replacing the filter housing for around £15. If you are going to bypass the filter to diagnose if its faulty, it's a good idea to use clear hose and you can then see the fuel coming up the hose to the pump. And don't forget to change the timing belt. When they fail, they usually bend the valves which are then difficult to remove from the head without breaking the valve guides and obviously, a new head is then required. The gearbox mounts would also split which then felt like the engine was coming out of the vehicle when the clutch was released from stationary. Again, very cheap and easy to replace.

These were great vans. Real workhorses. They never gave much trouble but they did use to rust ! Wish I still had mine. I think you'll enjoy doing this one up. Looking forward to your future episodes.

Well that's one way to move it 😂. Yea ex royal mail van sounds logical. At least the glass will be relatively easy to get out.

Nice one Chris I bet that took a while to move but you did it , can’t wait for more videos on this it will be a nice project, they are going up in value now and your one is the best Mk out of them all , this would go well with a Mondeo mk3 2.2 tdci engine in it 155 bhp standard , your garage looks mint Chris 👍🏻

I had similar problem escort diesel van the primer wasn't working stripped the primer by bending the tabs over the van had sat for a few years and if you don't start running it soon the fuel goes off and the injectors get rusty inside and stick.
