This is because the facelift Mondeo (2010 onwards) is fitted with a DELPHI Common Rail system, which was tried and tested in MK3....and failed dramatically. Siemens injection system, used in pre-facelift Mondeo MKIV is very reliable and will outlast DELPHI system. DELPHI on the other hand used to be prone to failure, but was also very easy and cheap to repair. I guess that DELPHI have learned the lesson and will no longer sell spare parts, similarly to Siemens .

Thanks Alan.I will leave them alone and decided to get them cleaned using liqui moly spulung 2666 flush directly to fuel system(between fuel filter and pump) I hope that is a good idea.

Really interesting video, my mate sent me it as thought this could be the problem with my 2004 citroen relay campervan. Unfortunately the symptoms are similar but not the same. In general I will get 20 miles and if I hit a hill all warning lights on dashboard will come on and all power to the van cuts off. I can turn off ignition and restart van immediately but I will get a shorter distance before it happens again. I've had the problem for 4 years and no one seems able to fix it.

Only 200k miles on set of injectors? Ive just replaced mine at 384k - original set in the original engine. Ive just had issues with mine - showing codes for injector 3 and high fuel leak. Its a 2l peugeot engine in a 2011 mondeo.

Got a 2012 Ford Focus 2.0TDCI UFDB engine, with ONLY 100k km, owned it since new and i have sort of the same problems, under hard acceleration or driving uphill, it cuts out, engine malfunction, service now, also esp light flashes. Went to ford dealer, i have 3 error codes: P1169-FUEL RAIL PRESSURE IN RANGE BUT HIGH; P0094-FUEL SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED-SMALL LEAK; P0093-FUEL SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED-LARGE LEAK. Got any idea what it could be? Mechanics there said that they dont have any clue what might be causing that, told me to change the fuel rail, and the injection pump. Also the car runs smooth, fuel consumption is normal, starts smooth, engine sound is nice, everything is all right except when accelerating. Appreciate your videos and your help. Keep up the good work.

hi, the fuel leak codes you have relate to the fuel rail not able to maintain the correct fuel pressure. you will need to do a fuel injector leak off test as i done in the video.....chances are one or more of your injectors are leaking too much fuel off back to the fuel tank but check or replace your fuel filter first as a blocked fuel filter will cause many fuel related problems.

As a one year later update, done the leak off test after replacing the fuel filter. And the result is that 3 injectors are leaking off, recommendation is to replace them all. So yeah only "good news". Thanks for your guidance

I have one of these engines in a 2015 Peugeot which is great to cross reference with the Mondeo's that you work on. I have a couple of questions for you and that is if the copper washers come out with the injector can they be reused and what torque do these need to be torqued up to when refitting ? in most cases you can reuse the copper washers but check them first for any signs of pitting or distortion...the injector clamp on the mk5 mondeo 2l diesel is 10nm + 70 degrees

Currently thinking we have this trouble with our mk4 mondeo estate. Exactly same engine as in this video. Has 182961 miles on clock. Had it at garage and they changed fuel filter and the high pressure fuel pump removed and inlet metering valve fitted??? ( As on receipt). Still cutting back as described in video. Fantastic info as always. Had a weird one with mine yesterday. Put my foot down to overtake, car bogged down then a huge cloud of grey/white smoke appeared before the car started driving perfectly normally again. Can't find anything wrong, no codes or obvious boost leaks. Very odd

My 1.8 tdci used to do that after about 30k use on the fuel filter. Always used to clog up well below the service interval. Clouds of white smoke and lack of power a couple of seconds after u put my foot down due to fuel starvation. Replacing the fuel filter sorted it every time.

No, the car does not go to limp mode.there was an error code on cylinder 2 which leads to the injector fault -according to the mechanic.cold engine starts with a litlle of shaking and dpf regen often approx every 100-130miles.

Hi Alan, Great video thank you! I have just bought 2010 mk4 2.0 tdci Mondeo, it is a bit rough on start up and cold and is lumpy when idling , but also has a tappety tap when running, particularly when you ease off the throttle it sounds like a single tap on one cylinder. its done 115k an has been regularly serviced. i thought of changing the fuel filter and using a diesel flush as a start, would you suggest anything further and is driving it as is likely to cause future damage please? Many thanks for any advice! tom

Hi Alan brilliant explanation love your videos this one made me laugh when you mentioned the price of injectors. My 06 2010 smax 2.0 duratorq has done 225000 miles now engine seems to run fine except my symptoms are similar to what you mentioned. However mines a bit more weird it tends to do it more around a right hand bend more so an island depending on how the the car feels. And only when applying acceleration it goes into limp mode but no eml would you say most likely injectors thanks hope you can help and keep up the good work see ya

Last week a Garage said I had a diesel leak when they took the engine cover off to repair a leaking coolant hose. They said it was the no. 2 injector fault. I had a pair of injectors bought from a scrap yard (tested) as they would only sell me the 4 not 1 costing £120 as I needed one for a previous no.2 injector fault several months ago. Anyway, this recent garage said they fixed the diesel leak using my injector and fixed a leaking bleed off pipe. Still cost me £150 using my injector. I didn’t use the car much only short journeys until today. Through a 2 hour trip I noticed a horrible diesel smell in the cabin and I could see lots of smoke from my engine when driving! Terribly nauseous journey! Need to take it back to the garage! Any thoughts on the problem?

hi matey i have a MK4 mondeo 2.0 diesel peugeot engine 2009 stuck in limp mode and when i say stuck in limp mode i meen you have no power 2000 revs max and judders so no turning it off and on again it is stuck i have taken turbo off and inspected and all look good but you can see that the actuator has not be moving with the carbon not disturbed so turbo is not cutting in i have changed the turbo vacuum boost valves /maf / inlet pressure sensor /turbo actuator /fuel filtter -cleaned EGR/and cooler /inlet manifold when you drive it the turbo tries to kick in for just a second , there no lights on dash , 2 codes came up fuel pump pressure rail and injector problem of some sort, sorry but the garage is run by polish so we did have a language issue, and they did not want to tell me to much as was not going to give them the work because i want to fix the bloody thing! now yes your probably saying why the ---- did i not get code read first , well you see i have a cheap reader and yes it should be in the bin so now it a bit more expensive i will try a leak off first but the car has only done 140k so was hoping injectors are good still can you share any info on this

the trouble is there are so many things that can put the car in limp mode permanently...you really need to get the specific codes stored in the ecu to point you in the right direction

I changed the High pressure fuel pump and it took for ever to prime ' the small hand pumps just can not cope with the amount of such required ( should of go the misses to suck ) anyway I. Had to use a bigger pump , the ones that you can get to suck oil out though the dip stick and that struggled so I kept the suction On wile cranking. But now the engine is running it cranks over several times before it fires up. ? But limp mode has gone Any idea with this cranking issue. Alan

Have exactly that engine. When going downhill, so 0 throttle, it feels like the engine misfires, like diesel leaks into the cillinder and ignites. Also every 100, 200 miles the dpf starts regenerating, so I imagine without a dpf I would leave a lot of smoke 😎 Is that something I would discover with a leakoff test? Thanks!

My 2013 mark 4 is going into limp mode with engine malfunction and the skiddy skiddy lamp coming on when I drive slowly at say 40 and slowly increase the fuel as the hill approaches and when I expect it to change down a gear between 1500 and 1750 rpm it goes into limp mode instead. It dose however run fine with the power on at higher speeds especially if I am in sport mode and not regular drive. Hmm.

Hi Alan thanks for your great videos, I have a mk4 2lt titanium x 2011, which starts perfect when cold but when hot and more so in the hot weather when starting it turns over sounding like it’s running on 3 cylinders takes a few more seconds than normal but when started it runs perfectly. hi.. injectors leaking off excessive fuel occurs due to wear in the injector itself and in the internal seals, additives will not help although using better quality diesel than what you get from supermarkets would do no harm, yes the mk5 mondeo injectors have started leaking off too much fuel and causing cars to enter limp mode... both mk5 mondeos that i have replaced injectors on have been around 150k miles.... i am keeping an eye on this

Hi Alan. Iv a very similar problem with a 13 Plate 2.0 TDCI Mondeo. My problem is the injector clamp on number 2 injector is after breaking in two. I’ll order a new clamp off of Ford tomorrow but can you please tell me if or how tight the clamp bolt needs to be and what way the injector should sit on the clamp I mean injector onto clamp first then insert or otherwise? My 2011 2.0 has done 210,000kms. Runs fine, no power loss, normal fuel consumption. But when I turn the engine off, particularly with a load (A/C) on, the engine rather violently shakes backwards and forwards. Any thoughts? Fuel related? Just worn engine mounts?

I boughg a ford galaxy 2011 durateq powershift 190000 miles. Losing power and coming off the gear and showing Transsmission limited function when accelrating. Just for your knowledge according to the the previous owner the transmission was recon only a year before i buy the car, I could see it was shiny silver all over. However Took it to a few mechanic and everbody said its your transmission. it got worse and worse and finally coudnt move at all except in the morrning and only for a few minutes then again rev up but no drive. Say what! I just fitted another used but low mileage gearbox and after a 30 minutes of drive same thing happened. I connected my diagnostic tool and for the first time it showed me p0094 small fuel leak detected. Conclusion initally this fuel leak has been the problem and lots of pressure has been loaded on the gearbox and cluthes and finally worned out the cluthes. With all the respect most of the mechanics are just part replacers nowadays. If they had spoted the problem inatially it wouldve saved my gearbox. Thanks for your magnifical video

Hi Alan, 1st off, thanks for some entertaining and informative, fun videos. My car is 2011model 2ltr TDCi 163ps. 182k miles I have the exact symptoms that you describe in this video, except for when I plug my scanner in, it’s giving me fault P1169 which I believe is fuel rail pressure high but within tolerance 🤷🏻♂️ Give the car 10secs with the foot off the throttle and it will return to full power, no need to reset ignition, would you still think it’s down to the injectors? Keep up the excellent work on the videos, and get Monica involved more. Cheers mate 👍 Oh and fuel filter only replaced in Feb, due to lock down only about 1500miles ago

hi, not sure if that is actually high fuel pressure but if it were me i would carry out a fuel injector leak off test and check all return fuel pipes from pump and injectors ..also if you have live data on your scanner you can see the desired and actual fuel pressure readings with the engine running which can give a clue whether the pressure is too high or low

Alan Howatt Thanks Alan, this morning whilst it was cold I removed the 2 covers from the top of the engine, everything was bone dry in there, so no leaks, I’ll search eBay for some cheap leak off pipes so I can do a proper leak off test. hi, ford transits have a different engine to the peugeot engine in this video..... transit engines in general are pretty good as long as they get the oil changes when needed but as far as injectors failing will depend on the year of the transit and what injector system is fitted to it

hi, i can't comment on renault master as i don't deal with them.. if it were me i would be looking at a merc sprinter, just think they are better built but really finding a van with high mileage that has not been abused could be difficult..maybe one with a full mot and service history would help... probably take your time and shop around

the first question is.... is your car going into limp mode when you put your foot down to accelerate in top gear..so why are you doing a leak off test and have you checked your fuel filter first ...what engine do you also have

I got a titanium tdci mk4 57 plate. with a donor engine. The code on the top of the injectors is different will this matter if I swap them into my engine

You need to code the new injectors to the engine. If you don't you may get a constant ticking noise and the car will not run properly. You must code the injector to the ecu so that the ecu can control the fuel delivery properly to the engine.

hi, to do leak off test..unplug leak pipes from injectors but not from pump....you don't need to disconnect that one.....after test..plug pipes back into injectors and start car... thats it..alll will be fine..no bleeding required

Hi Alan I have a 2014 ford mondeo 2.0 with no logged dtc's but I have a problem when starting in the morning it will be lumpy and rough idle for a few seconds then will be fine the longer the car has not been used the worse it is any ideas were I should start looking 🤔

Ive got exactly the same as you on a 2009. Rough idle worse in mornings, give it a rev and its ok. Can 'tick' on idle a bit and a tiny misfire type effect at 1500prm (its diesel which is odd the rev sticks for a millisecond at 1500). Im not a mechanic but watched loads of vids and im going to check my injector seals (copper bit) as these can cause all of that. Apparently a little bit of washing up liquid round top of each injector and if it bubbles the seals gone. I dont think the injectors gone as (like yours) the car runs bang on after that albeit mpg is a bit lower👍

Hi, I have installed 4 refurbished injectors and programm them to the ECU. But when i was programming them i realised that injector 2 and 4 have the same injector code ? Will that affect the running of my car ? I've done the leakoff test and it's perfect.

lol, i have never come across two injectors the same code... start it up and see how it goes, to be honest i rarely bother coding them and they work fine

alan howatt - i drove the car for 200 the injectors seem fine but i think my egr valve it's getting stuck. The car was acting strange when warm. I've cleand it a bit and now the car shakes when changing gears and it's verry rough to drive when cold.

if your car was not as bad before you changed the injectors as it is now... i would suspect the refurbished injectors...i will not use refurbished injectors anymore as i have found they create more problems than actually fix your main problem

hi, usually the injectors will put the car into reduced power mode but not cut the engine out... the best thing is to have your ecu read with a code reader to point you in the right direction

Hello, I have a 2009 mk4 mondeo and I believe fuel is been dumped into the sump pan.... it takes 5.5lt of oil but I drained out about 9lt last week.... I've replaced the oil and had the dipstick reading just under min and max. For a few days of small driving and there was no real change on the dipstick, but then I drove from Brum to London and back. Left the engine cool over night, checked the oil and it was near max.... would that be an injector? Car has only done 069471 mls.. please help me!!

Noel gym Hi I doubt very much if it is an injector or it would be running rough or starting very badly in the mornings with loads of smoke. The only way fuel may be getting into the sump is from the high pressure fuel pump leaking through its seals and into the engine. I would keep a close check on your oil level from day to day and if your sure the level is rising then have the pump checked

rather than me trying to explain the connectors which came in a kit you could try pushing the washer pipe/tube into the leak off hole in the injector...if it fits you don't need any connectors...i do it that way on mk5 injectors as i don't have connectors for them

Hi Alan,i have 1.8 tdci mk4 mondeo witch has a oil leak coming from a round plastic part with rivets on the front right side of the engine ,straight across from the termosat housing,it started of as a small leak ,but it it is pissing out all over the place ,can u please tell me the name of the part so i can go to ford and not look like a plonker ,many thanks Niall

it sounds to me like you are talking about the BRAKE VACUUM PUMP, bolted to the cylinder head with 2 ten mil bolts. the rivets get worn/week and leak oil, changed many of them

Hi Having watched your video, and i having the following problem you may have an idea of where to look for errors. The car is a 2013 tdci which starts off fine, but in the morning (standing overnight) starts and drives for a few seconds to switch off again. Can start the car by turning on the starter for up to 10 seconds. It seems diesel is running back. If I hold light gas (1500 rpm) the engine shakes lightly during the period of pressure in the system or it feels like it. Can you come up with an idea where to go. Try changing the fuel filter first. Be carefull with the connections on the fuelfilter itself when it needs to come off in the first place. And after that if it's not solved, try reading the ecu. Maybe a fault that has been stored

I found the error, The top of the fuel filter housing, has been replaced so now I can I can run the tank almost dry

@@alan4x thank you so much for reply. I have found 4 r looking clips in glove box , base of injector has a hole without a clip so a chance that a mechanic took these out and never replaced? Won’t see car for a few days but it’s a Peugeot duratorq engine I believe. Should these injectors have an r clip to keep leak of hose connectors in place? @@lewisbatch2277 hi lewis..the injector leak off pipes will have a plastic tab that locks the connector into the injector....you might be best just buying a new leak off pipe set as they come complete and you just clip them in place

it could well be but you really need to get the ecu codes read with a scan tool to give yourself a direction to where the problem may be

hi... yes it very well could be but you would need to carry out an injector leak off test... but check your fuel filter is not clogged first but yes if they are leaking too much the fuel rail cannot hold pressure quickly enough causing it to take longer to start. also check your starter motor is turning over quickly as a sluggish starter motor will stop the engine from firing quickly

@@alan4x hi I'm trying fix a mk4 that won't stay running. Leak off test is next port of call. But symptoms are, eventually starts, then cuts out shortly after. Live data shows fuel pressure normal and then low and when low cuts out. U reckon injectors dead? Fuel filter replaced. Also seeing few bubbles from filter to hp fuel pump

my 2.0tdci 2007 (135k) is doing something weird, every now and again (months apart) it will judder and loose power switch it off and on again fine for months! What's all that about?

bob ellison lol. The best thing you can do is have your ecu codes read which could point you in the right direction. Then clear thenn and when it falters again see what code cones back

Bob , I'm having the same problem. My mondeo 2.0 tdci 2007 goes into limp mode. I did a leak test on the injectors and it failed. I ordered 4 Delphi repair kits (Control valves and nozzles) for 480 euro. I'm going to do the work myself.

I've had a MK3 and a MK4 2.0 TDCi - the whole Delphi shebang in the Mk3 was made of chocolate, if it wasn't injectors going off you had fuel pumps disintegrating contaminating the whole system. MK4 any day.

hello, we do mainly use ford parts as most of the taxis were new so it just made sense to use genuine parts but when the cars get on a bit then we do use cheaper options like shock absorbers lol

hi alan ive got a mondeo 2013 2.0 now ive got a code of p1169 which comes up as fuel rail sensor in range but high what happens is my abs light comes on and goes into limp mode but it does seem to be when the car is under losad but its not all the time but its the same as i can stop the car and restart it and it goes should i get the leak off done do you think i also notice who cab your working on so i dont think you are far from me so you could give me a price to have a look if you can are you on messanger and i could message you mate

hi, usually if it goes into limp mode under load it is because too much fuel pressure is being lost...usually an injector leaking too much fuel back to the tank although the rail pressure sensors can cause problems along with a fuel leak from the leak off pipes can seep but it would need investigating, i am in huntingdon cambs if you need a leak test done but most garages can do this

On my Mondeo mk4 Euro 5 , only one of the injectors is leaking 35ml in one minute,the other three are leaking between 15-20ml.I think that this injector has to be changed.What are the symtoms of just one injector not working as it should.I am asking because at idle i am experiencing a sort of missfireing/judding/sort of cabin low frequency pressure-vibration that sometimes makes me motion sik.DMF and clutch are new, engine mounts are new, all original.Car has no errors, has no loss of power.Thanks.

if the injector was leaking off badly the engine would go into limp home mode if you held your foot down and put the engine under load and the engine may not be smooth when idling..

Alan, thanks for the videos you are sharing. I run FF3 with 2.0 140PS engine, same as you work in Mondeo >2010. I have almost 200000 km on the clock and very annoying sound from under the hood. The sound comes up when I drive 5 or 6th gear only, engine must be hot >~70C, 1300-1800rpm only. Mostly heard when gently touching acceleration pedal, but when pushed hard, the sound does not go away completely and still is present. I is not suppressed by front or back windshield heating or AC. The only what suppresses that noise is when cooling fan comes on or DPF is being cleaned. It is not heard when idling or with no load. Here is the movie, I tried to record that sound.
