I dented my subframe and was hoping I could change it without messing with the steering rack. Thanks for the video

I did this a few years back and after the dogbone, sway bar, ball joints, control arms, and numerous bolts that's all I remember actually removing from the car. However, even with your suspension intact, your alignment will still be off because you removed the ball joints. It takes about 20 minutes per side to set the front alignment on these cars using the string and ruler method.

In case anyone is wondering. I changed my MK4 TDI 5 speed inner tie rods with a Cresent wrench (or large open-end wrench) without removing anything but the tire and tie rod assembly. Turn the steering wheel one way and it gives you easy access to one inner tie rod side. Turn it the other way and do the other side. Easy peasy, no special too needed. Well, maybe a pickle fork.
Great video, thanks! Btw, did you reuse your subframe bolts? If you did, did you torque it to 73-74 lbs or more? I plan to get new bolts, but I'm just short in cash right now.

Great video on removing your K frame although I must ask. I don't see the lower control arms on your K frame. Did you disconnect the lower control arms and leave them connected to the spindle?

I replaced my control arms completely so I did separate them from the spindles and K member!

@@doryokustreetworks I thought so I definitely know something glad it worked out for you

Quick question I just dropped my K frame and I disconnected my steering knuckle adapter from the steering column, and now I'm trying to re install it again and it won't go on the steering column because I can't get it to line up Straight. Do you have any suggestions of how to get this on? My only understanding is to drop the steering column to pull it back a little bit to get that steering knuckle on the column. Any other suggestions?

I’m rewatching some of these old mk4 build vids… you need another mk4 (or even mk3) build. Maybe something crazier like a VR6 turbo’d or droppin a 1.8t in a mk3. Anyway love the VW content. Other stuff…😑

I do have another 1.8T Build that will be starting early next year. For where its going to compete not to sure yet. As far building one for the street, or time attack car, it just didnt make sense. Street car sure, but not really my style. Track car was fun, but for it to be competitive, it would have to be built into a unlimited class, which I don't have the funding for. I appreciate the support though!!

@@doryokustreetworks yeah I feel the funding thing… As far as street - these are easy to get enough power to move quick from a stock donor if you find the right one. My toy build is all stock except deletes and stage 2 tuned. The AWP comes with forged crank and pistons. Rods are the weak point but they support up to 250hp. You can always drop in some IE rods if you have it open though. Lots of fun for very little work. Anyway, I look forward to whatever else you do in the VW world!
