Mk4/Mk4.5 Ford Mondeo headlight malfunction levelling sensor replacement/fix Problem solved

You will need basic tools to complete this job. Anyone with a little bit of mechanical knowledge can complete this.
The headlight malfunction light tends to be caused by this problem but it isn't always the case so please read the codes stored before replacing.
The fault code will read something such as "headlight levelling sensor". If it does, refer to which side (the parts are sided!!) and replace as per the video.
The majority of cars with headlight levelling up and down, left and right will have very similar parts.
Remember to calibrate the headlights when you replace the levelling sensor otherwise the malfunction light will stay on.
A mechanic should do this very cheap as it literally takes minutes to complete the calibration as per this video.

Thanks for that Andy! Driving home last night with terrible visability and noticed there was no adjustment. So fairly sure this is my issue as the bulbs are fairly bright.

I’m having. A similar issue with mine was it the sidelights mate or the headlights the issue with just both my side light arnt working

Any idea what else this could be? Had a "Headlight malfunction service now" message pop up on car, took to garage and they replaced the level sensor. (Came up with Fault to ground/ Short to ground rear leveling sensor) so replaced the sensor but nothing has been fixed and cleared. So now thinking what are my other options? Have a 2014/5 facelift model with xenon headlights. Seem to Auto-Level (do their start up dance) but then immediately go down to the kerb when driving at night/ one beam will kilter off to the side like the car has a lazy eye....

@@Trulstor haven't actually had time but I have narrowed down where the fault can be. My friend has same model and trim of the car so popped my headlights into his car and there were no fault codes so no issues in the headlight itself. So then looked at wiring diagrams and apparently there's only 3 connectors with 3 wires from the leveling sensor to the headlight control module. So the error has to be in those 3 wires, the actual sensor is getting power (no communication faults) but it's not sending signal to the headlamp so it is a broken or rubbed wire in one of the 3 signal wires that carry the signal from the rear to the headlamps. So only 3 wires to check but they're extremely hard to chase because of the arrangement of the car and the underbody/loom positions!

Did you check the cable that's connected to the headlight? Had the same problem. Somehow mine was wet, i cleaned it and spayed some electric cleaner now its ok.

@@janbanan5353 i bought myself an autel scanner and it it showed left rear height sensor so i changed that 👍🏻

This video is taken in England and this particular vehicle lived in Scotland for quite some time. It's very common here for cars to rust....

Do not buy a new headlight , get a wire fix , cost 10 £ for the part , guy rewired mine both sides 80£
