Hey I remember my next door neighbor bought a red Cortina GLs in 1981 !!! . It was a beautiful car but i think the smell of the interior just knocked me out !!! . His previous car was a "T" reg Capri 2.0 GL auto in gold with a chocolate roof !!! . The Cortina was more refined and he fitted a Sharp radio/cassette with Lucas speakers and it sounded great !!! . Plus he fitted a CB radio ..... GREAT CAR .... GREAT DAYS ... (better than now) lol

I’ve had a few cars over the last 43 years and my favourite still remains my mk5 2.0 Ghia in silver. Such a cool car to drive😊

My first car was a really basic 1.6 L Mk4 EFP 367T but it was my favourite ever car and I wish I'd wrapped it up and kept it until I could afford to restore it. This has made me very nostalgic indeed

Brown, black vinyl roof, auto 2 litre. Ran on oil but had to add petrol periodically. Went like hell and such a brilliant design. Loved it.

Great to see so many.My first car was a 10 year old mk 4.Loved it.Good looking cars still and the Pinto was a good lump as long as you kept the oil clean.A stock 1600 could just about tickle a ton in forth gear but that was asking alot.Certainly cruise at 85 no problem.If they had a had a five speed box would have killed all competition dead.On a sad note huge lengths of the M6 are now 60 mph on cameras.Motorways are dead aswell!

I sure miss my 1979 mark 4 2.3 Ghia, which was originally in Jupiter Red. Black interior, with RS 2000 4 spokes, and mark 3 Capri twin headlamps. Reg number FAH 528T. I also had a mark 4 2ltr Ghia estate in black, which was an ex funeral car. back in 1995, I needed to get rid, as my first son was being born, so I swapped it for a B reg 1.6 L Sierra ad a video player, lol I actually bumped into the bloke a couple of weeks back, as he parked next to me at a classic car show...He was displaying his other mark 5 Crusader...He told me he put my old car in a ditch a few times, gone through two engines, and it was rotten, and hadnt been on the road for years...I tried asking if he would sell it back to me, but he was wanting to keep the interior for another project...The Cortina is the only car I have had, that I wished I had kept.

Unfortunately we've all had the one , we wished we had never sold, I count myself very lucky to own 2 x mk4 2.3 ghia's, one modified and the being restored to standard condition, both with black interior and roofs

@@mk4mk5cortinafanatics95 yup, loved that old gal....manual transmission, bullet proof engine....I remember getting 130 mph out of her, then the speedo needle started going up and down...There was still plenty more, but a roundabout was coming up. :) Brilliant for donuts, but alas, handled like a blancmange. :D

The most neglected of all Cortinas. Even in the late 1980s, my early years of driving I was still concerned about their future, even though back then they were very much a common sight on UK roads. That was due to the fact that MkIs were comparatively scarce, MkIIs were getting that way although MkIIIs were still fairly common in numbers. Now it's effectively the other way round. Hope there can still be barn finds, still structurally sound.

Thank you for your kind words it makes this all worthwhile, we have been going now for around 8 years and in that we have gone from a fb group with 25 members to around 6k bow Nd have just opened Instagram and this you tube channel too, we also exhibit cortina day in monmouth ,nec Birmingham etc 😀

4:12 The MKIV 2 door, stick a vinyl roof and a set of Capri (MKII) Ghia wheels and that would transform that car into a stunning looking motor.

beautiful cars even now had two in my twenties 1.6 4 door and 1.3 2 door mk5s 4 door was 1980 on v reg 2 door was 1982 on x reg .. never stopped loving the cortina and i am 54 next week.... just need some luck i might get chance to go back to one rather than the modern junk now...

Ordered a Mk V 1.6L with S pack in signal red 80 soon after they released it in Sept 1979. Took delivery on 2nd Jan 1980, my first brand new car. Ran it for six years, but then it got hit on the nearside and insurance company wrote it off. Tried to buy it back from them, but they said they didnt want repaired cars put back on the road. Gutted to see it a couple of months later repaired as new and being driven locally. MVW 838V where are you now.

There was never a Cortina MK5, that would have been the Sierra. Ford facelifted every Cortina model mid cycle. So on that basis calling the MK4 facelift a MK 5, it would be in fact a MK8!. The MK4 facelift was called the Cortina 80 by Ford, there was never a MK5.
