ECS has great DIY videos. Comprehensive, easy to understand and a simple follow along. I often have my ipad beside me as I’m working to refer to in case of issue.

Never do your degree torque with a click type torque wrench

Will removing the bolts from the control arm mess up your alignment ?

I did mine when changing pads and brake fluid, great feeling afterwards

Definitely a good opportunity to do other maintenance while in there

Here is Cali its less likely to have that type of corrosion But what about putting a little anti seize on the new hub?

Would have be handy to see how axle nut was tightened at the 180 degree. If possible
@LoadieRoadie2 жыл бұрын
I had a shop try to con me into an axle + CV swap by saying "the axle just fell out" when I had them replace the left front wheel hub. Seems normal to me as seen here. My girl would let go of the axle squatted in his lift bay a few days as payback. Ended up with a new CV boot instead.

Would it be ok to put antisieze on the hub assembly when you're replacing it?

Stupid question , when you say this applies to all mk5/mk6 platform , is this golf only or jetta as well?

Pretty sure the torque on the lower ball joint nuts is 60 Nm, not 100. I set it to 100 based on this video and could feel one stripping. 2 other sources said it should be 60
@TheTardis157 Жыл бұрын
It depends. If that lower control arm is cast steel it gets 60 Nm, if it is sheet steel or cast aluminum it gets 100 Nm. This is per the VW shop manuals. It's confusing, but I guess they like to keep us on our toes lol.

Do you have to torque them? Or can you just tighten it as much as you can without a torque wrench
@AlexanderSchnelle3 ай бұрын
you most definitely have to torque these

Would a slide hammer work to remove instead of air hammer?
@adrianmack3 Жыл бұрын
There is an easier way. There are videos on KZbin how to remove stuck bearings or rotors, same method, different press point. Use a couple bolts and nuts, easy peasy.

Do you have to replace the ball joint nuts?
@adrianmack3 Жыл бұрын
They are single use nuts according to factory manual.

Do you need to do an alignment after?
@bartuurk2 жыл бұрын
You have to replace the 3 nuts under the arm exactly in the same place. You can take a picture or mark with a marker. these 3 nuts affect the camber so its recommended to do an alignement

No need to mess with ball joints or control arms on an mk5. Plenty of room to remove the (4) 12mm triple square bolts by simply turning the stearing wheel. And buy a slide hamer for $7 at a garage sale to pull that hub. Lol
