Thank you for posting the video. I have a VW Passat 2016 and I am experiencing the first low coolant low level and coolant smell. I am taking the car to the dealership to inspect the issue.

Yes. Very annoying indeed. Fortunately i have the 2020 Golf R 7.5 version and am hoping VW remedied this issue. so far so good after 34,000 km.

( 2016 Golf GTI with around 23,500kms /14,600miles on the odometer ) Hmm yeah I'm having the same issue. My coolant was slowly leaking and I had to top it up once. I had my car serviced this morning at an independent VW/Audi specialist/mechanic and I was advised that there's a leak from the thermostat housing / waterpump unit. I booked it at the VW dealership that I bought the car from to get it looked at and hopefully fixed under warranty. I'll keep you updated.

Sick background sound 🤘 I'm having that same water pump trouble by the way. That's sucks

normally its the thermostat housing leaking and not the water pump. Newest revision thermostat housing part number: 06L 121 111 M (Revision M). If the dealer or whomever replaces it with another revision it WILL leak again. Infamous MQB EA888 Gen3 dreaded issue.

Great videos! So much help and information. I’m running a 2019 Golf R. Such a fun car! I’m wondering if my 2019 has the plastic or metal water pump?

I've got a mk7 golf r 2014 model getting the same warning light. Lucky I had extended warranty. Took to the first vw dealer they say nothing is wrong, inspect the engine sent me on way. Same shit light went on. So I took it to a different vw dealer. They pressure tested it and said yes there is a leak and I needed to replace the water pump and thermostat (told vw dealer has to buy both as one unit). 2 months after that same shit warning light have to top up coolant levels. Just had a oil change and service at 60,000 km and my company that does the servicing have picked up the same issue!!! So it's back to the dealer. Do not be surprised if the warranty repair doesn't fix the issue at all

u3962521 Thanks for the comment! I was actually wondering about that. I don’t think I’ve noticed any problems yet but I’ll be sure to make another video if I do. I’ve been a little behind in my video making

The simple problem is that the water pump is located right on the metal engine block...and the pump has a plastic housing... so you get soakback heating on shutdown which hardens deteriorates and cracks the housing plastic ....hence leaking coolant.... trust me im a heat transfer engineer in the aero industry.... so annoying...i have a modded long term mk5 gti ed30.... never had any problems with it.... this is called design engineering cost cutting at its finest.... soakback heating is often not considered in the design of engines...i should know.... just had mine replaced today at part cost on a 16 plate car with 40k on the clock here in the UK.

@@rlakhay do you have any advice on what to do to protect the water pump from failing?
@rlakhay5 жыл бұрын
@@haroonrafiq9174 so...i asked the same question...... an aftermarket fix is desperately required for this......i asked if a thick gasket could be fitted to reduce soakback...but nothing was available...... you could call awesome gti or one of the other main firms as soo many ppl are having the same problem..... someone must have thought of this...

Thanks, man. Your video helped! I had a similar issue. My car’s engine bay had slight burning smell every time I drove it. The coolant level was low. I added coolant before the coolant light turned on. Just visited my dealership. They found coolant system leaking.

sucks man, my 7.5R had low coolant around 5k miles and I think it was due to the hoses expanding. i'm going to keep a close watch on the pump

120,000km 2016 R. Same issue. Dealer replaced coolant pump & thermostat housing assembly for FREE as 'good will' by VWoC. That was nice. They said this is a very common issue for the MK7 R and I suspect the same goes for any other similar VAG engines like the GTI and A/S3.
