I had a leak coming from my rear brake caliper, so it had to be replaced. I show you how to install the caliper as well as the tools needed for the job to do so.

Thank you for this! Getting ready to do my rears, brake fluid leaking everywhere and I wasn’t finding much on replacing calipers, just pads and rotors. Thanks again!

Great video as usual. Couple of notes. The universal brake pusher tools are $25-35 on amazon, or you can rent them at your local auto parts store. Also, I don’t recommend reusing the banjo bolt that goes from the brake line into the caliper, as this may cause leaking down the line. Torque for the banjo bolt and also for the caliper-to-carrier bolts is 35Nm.

Thanks! Yes, you can find them as cheap as you mentioned. I didn’t buy the super cheap ones due to the higher amount of 1-star ratings on them. The exact pressure bleeder I bought is $40 right now on Amazon, and it works great. I almost bought the Motive one, because of its high customer rating and satisfaction, plus the amount of positive review videos it has on KZbin, but I didn’t want to spend the extra $15 haha. That’s good to know on the banjo bolt. I know I should have, but I inspected it and it looked fine. Plus so many other bolts that are considered “one-time-use” throughout my lifetime, that I just reused, and never had any issues ever. So yes, according to spec, the banjo bolt should be reused, but I don’t follow the manual 100% most of the time haha. Thanks for the tip though. Thanks for the torque specs too. I’m one of those old school guys that does most of it by feel 🤷‍♂️. Never in my life have I had issues, but I understand my video is kind of a “how-to” video, so thanks for the good information 🤙

@@JacesOwnWorld For the brake pusher I meant a special set of templates + a tool that will be able to push and rotate the piston at the same time. I bought the Orion Motor Tech "Brake Piston Caliper Compressor" for $25 for my brake job and it worked flawlessly. AutoZone rents those out for free, I believe. Also, have you confirmed that it wasn't a banjo bolt leaking on the previous caliper? I have looked around and it does not seem VW offers replacement banjo bolts for 5QM611775D. They expect you to replace the whole line if something goes wrong, apparently.

Gotcha. I know what you mean now. Yeah, I almost bought a set a month ago for like $25 on Amazon, but I don’t really need it unless I was changing pads, and my OEM pads still have over half of the pad left even after 86k miles. It was definitely not the banjo bolt that was leaking. There was no fluid coming from that area. I’m almost positive it’s the rubber seal in the back. It’s a weird caliper design that VW made. Eghhh, there’s always something car companies say you “have to replace”. It’s more of a guideline than a “for sure you have to” type of thing in my eyes. If this car was a Porsche or something equivalent, maybe I would pay more respect to that guideline, but not for a VW haha Autozone does rent it out for free if you bring it back. Love that rental policy!
