My 2018 broke off today. I just ripped it off. I don't think it's worth replacing it. It was actually replaced during their recall. I never actually cut my finger. I didnt have to lift up the console like you did. It popped right off😂

RECALL ALERT! April 6th, 2022. (I live in the US) I just took my e-Golf in to get a replacement key yesterday (highway robbery for the cost of it!) and the dealership replaced this trim for free, saying it was under recall. I've also sliced my hand a number of times. It was really nice that they replaced it for free and it looks great again!

Currently trying to peel the rest of the aluminum off that ALSO sliced my thumb. I'm having issues getting it off cleanly. I'm wanting to vinyl wrap it but it's tough

so, i assume to put it back on, i put the back part in and press down where i pulled up to remove it. But i'm getting a lot of resistance. Do i need to push really hard?

FYI, i pushed with both thumbs kind of at the back at the top on one side and it clicked in. Then i did the same on the other side. So i had to kinda bend back the top a little to get it to catch

That can happen. Just don’t push so hard that you snap one of the clips.

@@philipcinq-mars5021 I've been reading that some guys claim the cheap 10 to $20 shifters off Alibaba will work. I'm in the same boat. The manual and DSG shifter knobs both have the same bezel afaik.

You can't. No one sells just the trim. You gotta buy an entire new DSG shifter. DAP has them for $130. So it's not terribly bad cost wise. But still annoying.
